Haha! Well that's cool! Yea I bet nothing goes to the garlic! I mean I would, garlic is a super plant. We have about a dozen garlics growing this winter. Should be ready by summer. I wonder if one could use garlic as a hedge or border to keep pests from crossing into the inside. That would be interesting to test. Maybe I'll try that when spring comes around.

I have heard that most herbs and spices are pest deterrents so it's a good idea to plant those around. I'll have to try that solution you made. I'll have to look into our parish utilities and see if they have a wood chipper yard.

Don't get newspaper, although every now an then we get a free one tossed on the driveway. Use that for seafood boils though. I'm going to call a local tree cutter and see if they giveaway or sell wood chips. I only have a few boxes so I don't need but maybe a truck bed load to get good depth. My potted plants we have Agatha(or something) fern that covers the soil and others we use mint for soil coverage. Mint smells awesome after a rain. When I get home I'll have to snap a picture and share it with everyone.

I had my soil tested some months ago because nothing grew well. Everything good was high or normal. But I was like 640ppm in sodium which is super high. I treated the soil twice with some gypsum/calcium to fix that plus put in some amendments. Everything seems to be doing good so far with my fall/winter crops. Hoping the gypsum did its job. I'll test again in spring to see for sure. We planted some beans, peas, cabbage, kale, garlic, onion, cucumber, dill, and carrots. I need to get some wood shavings to put over the soil since it's been really dry lately in SE Louisiana. Everything was still seedlings when I left for work so I'm excited to see it all when I get back home. It will be 6 weeks since I planted.

We have city water unfortunately, but we drink purified water from a Alexapure gravity filter. I put a 5micron charcoal filter on the pipe outside for watering plants. Takes the chlorine and chemicals out while also other heavy metals. They seem to like it more, but rain water is king. I'll be extending my gutters to the backside of the house to drop into a few food grade barrels for watering plants. At some point I'll put in a shallow well with hand pump for when water isn't free from the sky and I get low on rainwater.

Explored the forum some more tonight and found this thread. My dad and I just got a 73 TS185 last month. Less than 2k miles on it too. Doing a quick and dirty resto on it. Get it running, get it clean, and get some new tires.just got some manuals off eBay the other day which should help. Also hoping to get jt street legal again too. Any updates on yours @Misterclean?

A little update. I had had another spot on the exhaust heat shield that rusted away where a bolt was and needed to be built back up. Brazed a small square of sheet metal where the hole was, sanded it then painted the remaining heat shields with high heat paint. Let that dry for a day and installed everything back on the exhaust pipe. I do need to get one more bolt that I had to cut off. At some point my ignition assembly fell apart so I ordered another one after an attempt to epoxy the two together. There really isn't much to adhere to and you can sleeve it because it has to go through the hole in the dash cover. Finally decided to knock out the rusted rims. They were in definite need of love. Started off wirewheeling them, then sanded, then sprayed them with ospho to convert any rust I couldn't get to. Let that sit for a few days and spot primed them where there was bear metal. Gave them a quick light sand and wipe/blow down before paint. Painted them with VHT Wheel paint in satin black. Did 3 nice coats with 2 cans. They came out nice. They are currently baking in the attic above the garage because I needed room and I figured the heat would help them dry while I went to work offshore. All of my parts are in from Rocky mountain so it will be like Christmas when I get home. New speedometer display assembly, sparkplug, new ignition key assembly, shindy carb kit, front CV boots, new valve stems, couple tire spoons, and the air filter housing cover that I was missing. Also my new tires are in. Went with stock size ITP mud lite II tires. So I'm pretty excited to get this hitch over with so I can put the quad back together again. Two things I still need is boot rings(because I didn't think about getting new ones when I ordered the boots) and two LED lights to fit the lower lights(one OEM is Missing and the other is in bad shape).

Yea this is the flat black grill paint. Says it's good to 1200° so we'll see. It's better than it was before and should help keep the rust away a little longer. It may not last long right at the exhaust manifold since it gets the hottest there.

Stripped the bike down as far as I'm going to get it for cleaning and cosmetics. Took the exhaust heat shields off and soaked them in Evaporust to kill the rust. Came out looking nice. The muffler guard needed a spot braised and the intermediate will too. I'm painting them with some high heat grill paint to hopefully keep the rust at bay a little longer. Not sure how long it will last though. Anyone tried this? Also took the fender brackets and foot pegs off to soak in evaporust as well. They will all get a coat of paint. Sanded the racks and bumper with 120g and will prime them later today. Tomorrow I'll hit them with a little more sandpaper and they will get Raptor liner. It's a two part in an aerosol can so we'll see how that works out. Hoping it's a little more tenacious than Rust-Oleum. Soon will be ordering the remaining parts like filter box cover, sparkplug, carb kit, front axle boots and tires.

Hmm, doesn't seem to have the oring in the cover on that eBay ad. I can get the cover and seal for $20 plus $10 shipping. I don't have that kind of oring material at the house or at work(bigger stuff there). I'd need to see if that seller or another has either the seal or a cover with seal included for less than $30 shipped.

I'm looking for a cover for my 98 450s air filter box. I have seemed to have lost mine someplace. If anyone has an extra they are willing to part with please let me know. I figured I'd see if anyone has one first before I ordered one. Honda part#: 17217-HM7-000 See picture as well.

I wasn't planning on replacing the axles, just the boots. Maybe grab a couple bearings while I'm in it too.

I was going to get OEM off partzilla/elsewhere.. I thought I read somewhere that All Balls quality wasn't good. That's good to know they aren't that bad. I'll look at the manual later today and see the process.

Pulled the fenders and other misc plastics off today to wash. Soaked everything down with some Awesome soap and rinsed the plastics and bike with the pressure washer. (I didn't get too close to gaskets). Was able to get the front rims off but the backs were put on with an impact I believe and I don't have that or a breaker bar. The oil cooler was chocked full of mud so that's clean and clear now. Bike is dry so I sprayed everything down with ospho to kill the rust. I'll spot paint everything black later on. I found out I have a ripped CV boot on the front right axle. Im going to just go ahead and replace all of them while I'm doing it. They aren't that expensive and if one is bad it's only a matter of time before the others fail. On a scale from 1-10 how hard is it to change out CV boots?

Definitely, I don't want crap lines to start deteriorating on me in a year. I'll try to see how much I need when I get back from work. I wonder if Honda service center sells it by the foot or not. I'll have to find out. Or I'll just order the OEM parts.

I saw the parts on Zilla, I didn't know they had other info. Good to know, thanks. Sucks they are all different sizes though. I know dimecitycycles has fuel hose you can get by the length, not sure the price difference is. I'll be sure to report back.
