I've had good luck with it also. I've also just spray painted metal gaskets before in a pinch and they held.

never tried it with spray paint ?, but I thought about it a few times back then !..lol. if you think about it, its not the gasket that seals ?, its the coating thats on the gasket !.

Lol. Spoken like a true hotrodder. I know copper spray well. We have done stuff at the track and be like it will never ever last but we gotta try. And go many rounds just waiting for it to break. Lol

i've had great luck with it, used it a few times, had to use it on a '99 2-stroke Yamaha waverunner on the header gasket, it never leaked.

Dumb question I'm pretty sure I already know the answer but I'm gonna ask. This engine has maybe 5 minutes of idle time, new gaskets for the top end or can I reuse them?

as long as you did not tear any of them ?, re-use them. as for the head gasket ?, other than torqueing it down a tad harder ?, in a pinch, I spray it down on both sides with a product called copper spray, you can find this at autozone, advanced auto, prob even wally world ?. works great, light coat on both sides, dry a tad, install, good as gold for me.

One time I talked to a guy on the phone about an atv in Baton Rouge which in the evening traffic is a 1 1/2 hour ride , talked to the guy at 8:00 am and he said don't leave home  till 2:00 cause he was taking his Dad to the doctor and I would get there about the right time , went home hooked the trailer , got the cash from the bank , filled up and drove to his house and at that time got 2 1/2 hours into the adventure , GPS says I am a block away and I see a truck pass me going the other way with the red atv on back , I pull up and he is still standing outside , what a jerk for a polite term   , wasted 4 hours and 200 miles of gas ! ---- kind of took the gas out of my long trips

i've had trips close to this ^^^, made a deal on doing some trading , found a vt1100 shadow up in OK, had to drive up to springdale,ar, then head west, guy swore the motorcycle was in great shape, I get there, bike had all kids of damage, flat tires, you name it, I just spent 4 hr drive there, tank of gas for nothing. it comes with the game bro !..lol.

  7. case in point, a few years back, tightened down the last bolt on a trx300fw engine, was going through parts box, seen a thrust washer, looked at it, looked at motor, said a few curse words ( a lot really ! ) it was the one dang washer that installed on the tranny shaft , at the bottom !, you can figure out the rest, lol.

  8. 10 minutes ago, ChadD said:

Well just pulled the washer out and just set the case back on and bolted the star to the end of the shift drum, everything seems to be shifting like it should and I still have neutral. Dang M5 gear but let's hope it all works when I'm done putting it back together.

lol, your not the first to install a gear backwards, and deff wont be the last !..lol. been there, done that= guilty !.

  9. 6 minutes ago, ChadD said:

The do spin freely but not independently of each other. Maybe I worded that wrong. If it's in neutral should one spin but not the other.

if the tranny is in neutral ? , then both shafts should spin freely. in other words, if shift drum, all parts are installed correctly ?, you should be able to spin both the main shaft, and counter shaft 360 degree's both ways. if one of them lock at a certain point ?., something is wrong.

  10. 1 minute ago, ChadD said:

Well I did find that the m5 gear on the mainshaft was on backwards. But when I put the shafts back in everything was still spinning. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the countershaft not spin if the shift drum is in the neutral position?

if shift drum is in neutral ?, then both shafts should spin freely.

Was lucky and found a near new '99 450ES (ketchup) . . . . took a month to go over all the things that needed looking at, and the OEM muffler has something loose inside.  Kimpex makes a very high quality replacement muffler for the 450's and they are about 1/2 the price.  There is one on my '99 450S (mustard) . . . . . .

Thinking of cutting the side out of the OEM piece and welding/replacing the loose stuff.  Open it up where the heat shield will hide the surgery.  New OEM is outrageous if you can find it.  The ketchup is completely stock with OEM tires and rims.  It's quite surprising how nimble they were in stock form.  😎

I always slice them right at the back, right in front of the weld, all the way around, pull/dump the crud out, weld the end back on, nothing too it :-).

  13. I believe toodeep said the front bumper will need to be taken off ?. I dont know what all parts you bought with your winch ?, but I know what I used on all my installs. I always go with a warn pro vantage 2500-s, KFI roller fairlead, KFI mounting plate made for my warn. I always install the contact switch in the trunks, as high as I can mount them. I have never had any issues with the cables supplied with this winch, I dont know why your having issues ?. I think I read somewhere about you or youtube, or someone ??..mounted their winch upside down ?, I don't know why folks do this ?, I have never installed my winches upside down !!.
