The cabin looks worse than it was and I have most of the hard stuff done. I just need to put the new fascia board up and install the 2 new pieces of steel. Then fix the chimney too but since I’ve been down the isle a couple times in the store I should have all I need. She’ll be blowing smoke again by next week when the steel comes in.

That tile has been in this house for 20 plus years and supposedly been through a wood and pellet stove. It looks pretty much new along with the grout. I’ll just leave it be for this winter and see how it goes. Of course just about every piece of stove pipe I bought is wrong. So back to the 3 different stores I’ve scavenged parts from this week. Return paint and wrong pipe and picking things up to finish my cabin repair. I sure have a lot of coals in the fire right now. We had a 100’ popple hit our cabin this summer in a storm. I have the rafters and roof all fixed but needed a longer fascia board. Here’s some pictures of the damage. More stove work to do there too.

Ohh I suppose the tile could potentially crack if too hot or just scratching the tile from the feet?

I honestly thought about it this morning. I am a die hard cast iron pan guy and won’t cook bacon on anything but. I figured the bacon grease wouldn’t last as long though. And it would make me more hungry than normal every morning I stoke the stove.

I just have the Standard wedge trumper maul. I’ve been told by many the fiskers is the way to go but the one I have is like new so it’s hard to justify a new one when this one works well.

Black stove polish is what I did. Found some at menards this morning. I think it looks pretty’s good. Now I need 4 strong men and a good cook to get this thing in my basement.

Yeah. That’s a good call. I will probably install as is after a little more wire brushing. got out in the woods today. Guess I need to cut wood on a regular basis to keep the wife warm. here’s some photos for you to enjoy. the big oak tree still needs to be split and hauled home.

Not really sure. I didn’t notice the stove black at the hardware store. What is the benefit of that, I basically want the look I have just protectant against future rust.

Typically you’d load from the top but the doors are available too. It also has a screen so you can open the doors and have direct heat like a fire place if you choose. Like on a Christmas morning or something.

Few hours of wire brushing steel wooling and vacuuming and it’s basically brand new. any one have recommendations for what type of paint to use???? I bought a couple types. See pictures below.

Omg how handy would that be. Actually my cherry picker worked pretty ! good. The front legs fold up so it still fit in the trailer with the stove.

Heading home now. Vermont castings encore. Good deal just had to drive 4 hours each way. But I got to have lunch on Lake Superior.

I’ve looked at a few others. Be nice for the wife to have a wood stove that is easy to operate without a chimney damper. But always open to ideas.

My parents have two of them in their house which were our primary when I was growing up. What’s nice is they are very controllable. Damper, thermostat, and ash pan if needed for wet stuff. Their thermostats work great, you can snuff a fire right out along with holding right at 300 or 400. I have offers out to about 5 people on marketplace waiting for nameplate pictures to verify UL tested. Seriously 1 out of 5 posts ignore posting the nameplate on these stoves? Most ask about 500 more than their worth.

Change of heart folks... I called to verify with my agent... and he looked closer into the "code" if you will and I CAN install a free standing wood stove as long as it's UL certified tested. So the hunt for a soap stone style free standing stove begins... any recommendations? Is Vermont castings still the primo line?

Yeah I understand I need power to keep it going. I have a generator to back up the houses furnace and actually had to use it 2 years ago when it dipped down to -40f and the power went out. I want to elaborate a little more in why I’m hoping I can get some more feedback. First. My wife wants to be warm while working in the office. Remember guys, happy wife happy.... you all know. current setup in the basement is baseboard heat. I ran it at 63 one January and it was $100. She would prefer it to be 72. so my options are pay $150 a month for imo wasted energy/heat or buy something else. The cheapest is a pellet burner. For around $500 I can have the entire set up. Or I can pay about $6000 to have a wood stove installed as my insurance doesn’t cover home owner installs. I figured when she’s back in the office in a year or two, if COVID ever ends, it’ll be a nice place to hang out with the family on Saturday nights or holidays. OR!!! I put in the garage and help my wood stove heat my 35x40 shop. I guess I’m just trying to get ideas as to what to look For in a pellet stove good bad or indifferent. Unless someone wants to gift me $5k for a wood stove??? That’s always an option.

Anyone have any recommendations with Pellet stoves? I'm in need for some supplemental heat in my basement living room for the wife while she's working from home with winter. Checked with my insurance company and I can put a freestanding pellet stove in myself (i don't want to pay someone the price of a new wood stove and installation even though i'd rather have wood) Ive seen quite a few used in the 400-700 range which is the price I'd be willing to pay to make it worth the pellet stove. (as compared to just using the electric baseboard heat). 1. what should I look for that's good/bad 2. it's heating a 400 sq ft area and would supplement the rest of the house as well, should i worry about the btu rating? 3. chimney recommendations? i need to go up a mere 3' to the wall penetration which will be about 2' above the ground outside. Is this a concern with a spark arrestor cap? any and all info is welcomed. Thanks, Sled

Funny you say this... My 17 F-150 has oil seeping out of the pan. Just noticed when changing the oil two nights ago... Looks like that needs to go to the shop. Reading online, it sounds like it's a common issue, being it's a "synthetic" pan aka plastic. WTF why would you put a plastic oil pan on a 400 hp truck.

If you don't have a lot of money invested in the case i.e. new bearings, new crank etc. etc., I would just run it. They're probably casing cracks. Stick a thin gasket/seal pick down in the holes and see what you get prying a little if you want. I just rebuilt my transmission on my 06 and had some areas that looked very similar with less pitting. Never blinked an eye at them.

So i read this as a parts bike then kind of like he listed. I'm more looking for a project bike to restore/resell as whole. There's just not a lot available right now and was hoping to find something before the snow flew.
