  1. Right is the Mount plate that attaches to carb. Middle is filter left is cover
  2. 041 rebuild tair down. Cylinder is salvageable. No rod play. Just a cooked piston I believe.
  3. Yeah my 06 is noooooo where near that nice. But I hardly had to stub a toe for what I paid for it with 1st gear gone.
  4. That’s a fine saw you have there. The supers were always good runners. I have a 290 that’s a little smaller than that 029 super and I run a 20” bar. Good sharp chains and she’ll eat 20” without much struggle. Just don’t lean on it. I wouldn’t recommend much more than a 20” though. 50:1 is what you’ll want in that saw. You can go as high as 40:1 and be ok too. as for bar oil. I would run something thicker. Especially with the 20” bar. I just buy the stihl bar oil. It’s less than $10 typically.
  5. Yeah I need to get the cylinder off and have an inspection. Hopefully it’s just build up and not any deep scratches. It still ran when disassembled so there’s hope it’s not too dinged up.
  6. https://lacrosse.craigslist.org/bar/d/tomah-1984-honda-200x/7247183436.html I feel like this could be a decent deal if you could get it for less than $400. I have too many irons in the fire right now. Figured i'd let you all check it out.

    Weather

It's been near perfect here in WI. Little wind, lows in the teens, highs around 32 F. No precipitation.
  9. The air filter was pretty dirty and not seated correctly on the intake so i'm guessing she sucked quite a bit of debris. I have a new Hyway piston assembly coming along with carb kit, fuel lines, air & fuel filters, and flywheel puller so on christmas break i'm hoping to get the ol' gal cleaned up. Hopefully the cylinder will clean up. I see a lot of people use muratic acid to clean the cylinder. Hopefully I can find some of that at a reasonable price locally. I'm about $45 into the saw so I'm hoping this fixes everything up good.
  10. I was just looking at how to prep my stacks for next year... wondered if i should make a wood shed out of pallets or just stacked up differently. Then I came across a picture just these, except smaller. man that looks pretty neat, safe and not much for an eye sore.
  11. yeah I split that entire works with the truper maul. Hard to justify with how good it works. Maybe Santa will bring it for a gift.
  12. This ended up being 3 full cord. I think I’m done for the winter.
  13. Better yet I got to do it with my grandpa and son. Family tradition.
  14. Here’s a ! of a load. The ol half ton didn’t mind too much other than braking. Probably 2 cord in there.
  15. Yeah I know what they are. I was attempting to make a bad pun lol. Brush lot. Nasty crotch. Lot Liz haha
  16. I did ask them a while back and they said that I would have to take all the brush on each load too along with the logs. Sometimes it's just the logs, sometimes it's mostly brush with one or two logs. So I wasn't going to take the chance of having to second hand a bunch of brush. Its only like 3 miles to the brush dump from my place so it's not too hard to go out there and just take what i want. Then if there's a nasty crotch (! lot lizards) I don't have to fight to break it down and just throw it back in the heap.
  17. Yeah the brush dump in town here hauls loads of ash logs in every week. They are cutting every ash tree down in the city. It’s all half dead and dried out decent. By far my favorite to burn right now. I’ll have to snap some pictures of some of the knarly stumps out there no one wants to buck.
  18. Got rippin into my free 041AV tonight and confirmed the hot saw shut down I’m afraid. I’ll have to see how much rings and piston is gonna be before I see if it’s worth rebuilding or parting out. 😞 she’s a dirty girl. Cylinder is scored a little too. But otherwise it’s not in bad shape.
  19. Here's the release sheet for the saw i found today. (posting here so I can find it again)
  20. Yes @_Wilson_™ the woods is coming along. Picked up done white birch yesterday that’s in the heap and some dry ish white ash split and stacked along the house.
  21. I’m not too bad at hand filing. I kind of feel like the 2-1 is a little aggressive with the rakers so I’ll hit them with a hand file from time to time. Also I hand file with 7/32 whereas stihl recommends a 13/64 with the 3/8 chain. The little smaller diameter really works good when hand filing to bring an edge back around and get the “cup” or “c” perfect in the tooth.
  22. Remember I can sharpen a 20” full chisel in about 7 minutes with this sucker. Not worried about sharpening time anymore 🙂
  23. I was thinking I’d have enough power to turn a semi skip but you think full skip for big hardwoods? fiskars is on the Christmas list so I’m holding out.
  24. Well I got into some 24” white and green ash today. The ol ms290 got worked pretty hard with the 20” bar buried. Posted my 310 for sale and stopped at my ma and pop stihl shop. ordered a brand spanking new ms400c pro saw. Due to release in January and available for purchase in March. They said I’d get the first one they receive. 66.7 cc. 5.4 hp. 25” stihl es light bar. Full chisel and semi skip chain. Magnesium piston. Weighs less than 13.5 lbs. m-tronic carb. can’t wait. It’s the new step between the ms362 and 462. https://www.stihl.com/STIHL-power-tools-A-great-range/Chainsaws/Petrol-chainsaws-for-forestry/2107810-131/MS-400-C-M.aspx
