good price...good solid basic rifle...and good shooting! I can't get quite that tight at 50 with the 10/22 takedown, but not unhappy with it at all. but anything beyond 65yards and it just starts to really open up on the groups. I have a small swing disc target ( 8 inch I think) that I can pitch at the 100yd mark and make it swing on every hit, but the holes are all over the place..and that's with the nikon scope on it. I can only blame myself so much cause I can keyhole 100yards well enough with 223, and 308 platforms that I own. So I'm calling part of this on the platform..and so I just keep the distance shorter on the 22 and enjoy it for what it is.

not surprised...not a lot of pep in those quiet charges. i was actually surprised that they run reliably in my 10/22 takwdown but again, no suppressor. I have no idea how many rounds I've put through that little takedown...probably around 1k. it's just a fun platform.
  3. yep...see...same with me. and mine is mounted on the little 300...so it looks even more huge...at least on the bigger bikes it doesn't seem to be so oversized. i'll be changing my mount this weekend.

yep, I have some sub-sonic quiet rounds for the 22. now I'm part deaf anyway, but out of the 10/22 rifle, the report from those rounds is soft enough that I can shoot without hearing protection. good if you are out on the property and need to dispatch a pest. Same round out of a pistol is still painful to the ears.

yeah... I've watched the news media over many years talk about how a guy had "an arsenal" when in fact it was a pistol, rifle, shotgun. back in the days when I did a lot of training..it was common to blow through 500rds on a saturday course and usually another 250rds just preparing to be worthy of the class. so having 1,000rds of 9 or 556 on hand was reasonable. but to an anti-gunner, or someone who has no clue about training, they'd think.. "oh my god.!! 1,000 bullets!!!??" 22lr used to be just sitting out on the shelf, like bb gun ammo..not locked in a glass case. I still have several of those old walmart winchester 550rd boxes...they have the $11.97 sticker on them. me and the buds do a lot more 22lr range days. I'm still old school with old Ruger Mark 1 pistols and Ruger 10/22 carbine platforms. They tend to have new model whatever pistols and AR22s. But we have good time together plinking..just at closer distances given the platform. when we switch up to 9mm or 45, we tend to keep it under 150 rds each. and definitely under 100rds of 45acp. I don't know my 22lr count, but I'm still able to comfortably enjoy range days with what's on hand without worrying about restock. the other stuff, I like to buy what I plan to shoot and not dip into my current inventory levels.

interesting...thanks for checking on that and sharing.
  7. thought about this post as I pulled in to the drive last evening from work. a half dozen deer standing in my side yard..they just lift their heads and watch me..always curious. these are the core doe and fawns that nurseried in the side yard...so they have grown over a couple generations now, being used to us there. I can't get closer than about 30 yards before they'll jog off a bit...but the side yard is about 2 acres so they get out to a point and wait for me to go back in the house or do whatever else I'm doing. The wife wants me to get another bag of corn...they get all but petting distance when I'm tossing the corn out.

yep other folks have said good things about the Wolf Gold as well. I think that's actually made in Taiwan or someplace other than Russia also? so who knows how the Biden ban will actually hit things like this...just cause it's a "russian brand' label, does that mean it'll get banned? or since it's coming from a friendly country like Taiwan , will we continue to see it flow freely?

LOL..yeah...the 5.56 stuff was foggy to me cause it wasn't a primary cal for me. it was only a few years back that I only had an old Ruger mini 14 that ate the 5.56 and that was more a varmit tool..not a zombie weapon. so, when in my frustration at some politicians, I decided to at least add an AR15...that found me upping my purchases of 5.56 But I was only doing that whenever I'd be out getting deals on 7.62. so it would be an extra 250-500rds here and there of 5.56 for a caliber that I really wasn't shooting. The acquisition of the old Colt now meant I should consider being able to feed both the carbine and the rifle platforms for the longer term. But reason has settled in on my brain and I'm really comfy with what's on the closet...I mean, it has to stop someplace right? .. LOL. I'm spent on my firearms hobby...literally have what i wanted...and so a reduced range count and knowing I can pass these along to my children...that's enough for me.

I never wanted, nor cared about the cheap "russian" steel cased stuff. I realize the impact it can have on short term pricing/supply, etc. I did clean my closet this weekend and was pleased to have found more 5.56 than I remembered. So I ping'ed my friend and told him to offer his 1,000rds to someone else who might be inn need.. Cause shy of a Red Dawn event, I'm in reasonable/responsible good shape on my inventory..and I'm gettin too dang old to hang with the Wolverines (grin). This year saw the addition of another pistol, and more ammo for it. Optics as well. then the nice surprise of the old school Colt AR15 match rifle. so my fun money really is spent. AT this point, I prefer to have some cash on hand during a bad day as well as bullets...so the balance is struck and I've officially taken the temptation off my plate.
  11. myFourtrax saw sunlight as I pulled it out of the garage to get to my old 79 CT90. Which is where I spent saddle time yesterday. spinning around on that little bike is still so enjoyable
  12. nuttin says Saturday fun like some Four Wheelin and some Tannerite (grin) good for you to support , embolden these ladies.
  13. first off...thank you for posting this pic. my wife, being a sweetie, bought me one of these a couple years back. But I wanted it out the way as much as possible so I mounted it more at a cant. the result is it sticks way the heck up in the air and looks kinda silly. my old 300 doesn't have a super long rear rack, but this still might be the better way to go.. I'll have to try it. I don't want to hurt her feelings cause she was good to get it for me...if I were on a weekend outing, yeah, that's the place for a long gun to live. for just running around my property doing a security sweep, I tend to just toss a shotgun into a soft scabbard and sling it over my back. two different scenarios I know, but yes, I want to show her that I like the Kolpin and use it more often.
  14. lotta work... but looks like a lotta fun too. I see a ton of folks in Florida using e-bikes these days. I like the idea that a bike allows you to walk into areas that would be restricted for an actual moped or small motorcycle. as e-power continues to improve and prices I hope eventually fall, I will get into some electric. for my small gas bike needs, while I enjoyed the old one about 40 years ago, I'm hanging on to my Honda CT90. With it being a legal , tagged motorcycle, it lets me enjoy national/state parks etc that restrict offroad motorized vehicals, be able to run down to the small town corner store, and enjoy offroad trail riding. but if we are going to small town festival, blanket on the lawn/beach kinda thing, then the motorcycle has to get parked on the pavement, whereas a bike (e- or gas) should be good to walk it to our blanket area and have it right there with us. anyway..beautifully done project!! ET
  15. yeah, the one surviving drive-in around here I've not been to in 20 years. when the kids were young we'd go a lot. back then they were doing the radio but also stll had the old metal speakers boxes. It was always a love/hate..cause the window boxes had horrible sound, but when you had a field full of them , it kinda put the audio "in the air" and that was a cool sound. we also had the small playgound down under the screen where the kids could run and play until the movie started....simple magic times.
  16. actually, one of my first jobs was as the "back gate guard" at our drive-in theater. my uncle was the manger, I wasn't quite old enough to drive, but he'd hire me $1.25/hour and all the popcorn I could eat. I'd have my bike and a blanket on the ground...the exit had to be left open so when guys would try and sneak in the back gate I'd wave them down..if they blew me off, then I'd id the car, come into the concession and we had a off duty cop that also worked there. He'd follow me out to the car and eject the violators. and yeah, frequently I'd see a car come in the front, park and then the driver would come open the trunk and the others would pile out. Eventaully we just started charging a per car fee. So folks that still tried to sneak in the trunk felt extra stupid for not having to have hidden to begin with. it was a small town back then...drive- in and one pizza joint was about all we had. when I got my first car.. i about lived in that thing. worked double shifts at the tomato packing house in season, slept in the car, then beach runs for sunset, or all night parties..again..napped in the car. Often me and my girl friend would fall asleep at the drivein and wake up as all the car lights were leaving the movie..scramble to get her home...etc. but no air conditioning back then..so the windows had to be down and those pics kept us from getting eaten alive.
  17. oh lord...those old green "pic" coils...my old 1964 Galaxy 500 had that permanent smell. We'd spend most every weekend either at the drive-in movies, or at the beach and always had one of those burning on the dashboard.

I pulled some of the guitar cases out of the closet last evening so i could get a peak at the ammo can stack hidden behind them. I honestly can't remember my 223/5.56 inventory levels cause I just never shot that cal that often before the panic-demic...and so it's been a good while. couldn't see everything, I'll have to get into it this weekend. But I spotted 4 of the thinner 30cal cans.. I think there's about 440rds in those 20rd boxes in each of those. Then there is a 50cal can of the 855 green tips in the 62gr on strippers..so that's another 400ish? and a 50cal can of federal xm19x that I have marked as 780rds. And one other 50 cal can that had assorted fancy loads in that cal. The magazine case for spare mags has 2 dozen of the 30rd mags and a couple 20s and 10s. All are preloaded. And finally the carbine AR15 is in a go-bag with 5 mag pouches of 30rd mags preloaded. so, no, not a great amount. The AR15 wasn't my primary rifle platform anyway. I opt for my AR10 and there's plenty on tap for it. the 5.56 was originally on hand only to feed my old Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle. So keeping 500-1000rds for it was always plenty for plinkin and coyotes. But between politicians telling me I shouldn't be allowed to own an evil "AR15", and the occassional deal coming along, I've wound up with a couple long arms that I would not otherwise have purchased. So I do want to have ammo for them, like my other platforms, to enjoy today, to pass on to my children, and hopefully to never actually "need". I see some folks thinking prices on nato stuff will continue to come down and it is showing up on shelves now. So I probably just need to calm myself down. Cause I know me.. I'll grab this next 1,000 and then soon as another batch shows up I'll be asking myself again...should I get more. as for trusted... I am blessed with 4 great adult kids , all married, and both my daughters and my son and son-in-laws are all trained and capable not just on firearms, but on self reliance topics. with them having young households, just making the bills happen each month can be a challenge. And ammo takes a back seat to their desire to have latest flat screen TVs, iphones, etc. So most of them have very limited supplies. Enough to defend themselves and fight their way here to my home.
  19. yep... Lawd yes.. zip ties !! learned that one early on when a tree branch that I thought I could clear, and or smash under the paws of my mighty honda beast..would up catching the underbody splash guard and ripping it from the bolt bracing.

thanks Jeep...all things that i've said to myself...but always good to hear someone else say it as well. (grin). I've stocked deep on food (longer term storage items like canned veggies and meats and other grocery story non-perishables for years now and it proved to be a wise move this past couple years. I've always said that a can of green beans that cost me 45 cents, when inflation or supply pressures hit and that same can is $1.40, yeah...it's still the same can cause it's in my closet. So it is better to have inventory on hand than to have it cost 3 times as much or not even be able to get any. But, with that in mind, I was faithful to stack the ammo closet deep during good times. Good times means I was getting 1,000rds CCI 9mm brass at $140. Now that same case, if you can find it is in the $600 range!!! I've always kept some "fun money" on hand in case someone had a distressed sale or a great deal...and needed cash. That paid off this month in being able to whip out the $ and get the Colt AR at a nice price. But, I had also just recently upgraded optics on a pistol, new light/laser and a new holster, I like having some emergency cash on hand in my go-bag and I also keep a few hundred $ in each of my battle bags..so if we had to pull out due to a disaster, I'd have some working funds for hotel, gas, food, etc. I guess I'm getting lower in the cash category while I feel pretty much flush in the guns n ammo side...that's why I'm probably holding back. I don'tknow that we'll see the market price come down over the next year. But even with some range fun and some training time, it'd take a new world order street fight for me to be sitting in the dark wishing I had bought more bullets. if i'm this much on the fence about it, I guess that's my answer...but I am glad I grabbed the Colt itself..

friend pinged me yesterday. His dad passed away.. he was more than amazed to learn of all the guns and ammo that his dad has stashed. I have purchased the Colt AR off of him, so he reached out to me to let me know he had come across a little over 1,000 rds of 223 for it. He's trying to be fair and is asking pretty much market price for brass range quality ammo $450 for the 1,000rds. I don't actually "need" the ammo, but I don't see prices coming down much anytime soon, and this purchase doesn't include sales tax, etc. I'm definitely on the ledge on this one. I've never paid this kind of $ for ammo, but I also realize it is a new day and unlike waiting for a school shooting market panic to calm down, this current state of affairs could run a long long time. On one hand, I like having the cash tucked away and at my age, even if we get into a shooting fight, I'll not survive my current inventory. So I guess this same ammo would surface yet again after another old man passes away (me) and my kids are standing at the door to my closet also amazed at what they find. so, opinions. Should I grab this case? Mind you, I am already sitting on a couple other thousand of that caliber,so it's not like I'm not prepared already.

LOL..."the thing that goes up..." nice piece of gear ya got on that table!!! yeah, my latest acquisition is a 1995 Match Target HBAR 20" . All original in green furniture. His son says it might have 600rds through it and it is like new. His dad pulled the cheaper scope that came with it and dropped a nikon P223 BDC on there. I have several of the nikon P series and think well of them so I was happy that it's on there. Included with the deal basically for free..so that was another $200ish at the going used rate for those. STill had the strap and the original tools in pouch in the rear hatch of the stock... The son was actually surprised when I went for the latch... he didn't realize that was there. I've even got a 50cal can of the old greentip 65gr ammo that the 1:7 twist is supposed to be happier with. Guys with contemporary AR15s (1:9/1:10) complain about the 855 stuff, but this rifle was made to eat that I believe. anyway, yeah, I never intend to convert anything to select fire, and this , as it is, is a well made rifle that I'll be happy to hand down to my children...in the meantime, it's fun to test myself on that handle sight system. i just don't have range longer than 400yards available to me.

yeah Jeep.. I do have a later model Armalite AR10.. I prefer the 7.62 in a "battle platform". But I also grabbed a deal a couple years back on the S&W M&P2 in 5.56. Nice, lightweight and reliable carbine...better for CQB. The old Colt was on a whim...guy's dad passed away and he doesn't much care for the older Colts..takes too much to alter them for dress-up...accessorizing. some things though...are best left simple. While the ban model Colts do have that stupid sear block and the shaved bolt to be able to clear the block, the balance of the gun is still a high quality rifle. ( and of course no bayo lug..oh my!!) It does have the grab handle mount with a nikon scope on it, but really those handle dual sights are still the way to go as long as the old eyes can see. It's as close to a true service rifle as a boy could get. Very accurate, a joy to shoot, and dead nuts reliable. So, no, not my first grab from the closet if I had a fight to join, but I like still being able to purchase (legally) product like this without the FFL documentation should that ever matter some day. And it came at a price that I could tolerate.

yeah...several generations of LEO in my family (uncles). close friends in our local have allowed me to get some advanced training, including some time under our county SWAT SGT. I had to work hard to earn my slot on that course. Sheriff asked me if I wanted to join as a reservist, but I have a full time job and a side business...no spare time whatsover. Anyway, the cop shop has quietly sold me some "product" (M&P) in the past at LEO pricing and even if I couldn't get it, couple FFL/retired county guys would make it happen. That's how the ammo comes around at a decent price when they get some in. I'm waiting on more 223/5.56 right now. Couple thousand rounds here at the house, but...looks like price and supply will be stuck for a while yet, so I figure why not get some if I can at a LE price.
  25. the deer are crazy this year...solid population...some fawn are still loosing their spots and the others we are familiar with are about 3/4 grown. I can't keep them out of the flowers, even with the motion sensor sprinkler and the smell spray. I have to really watch close driving in and out of the hood, as they are all over the road. I think both of my bow hunter neighbors have moved on...so we won't see any real action locally until gun season starts up. anyway...plenty for them to plink at this season. Just not on my property is all I ask. I will be out back on my range more now that weather has cooled down...so any trespassing hunters might be wary of sneaking onto my property.
