  1. oh to be the 3 yr old who owned that one!! boss of the block! course there's an obvious broken collarbone just waiting to happen (grin)
  2. yeah, my CT90, replacement carb, will "surprise" me sometimes. I've found if I use the full jack stand (both sides swing down and the bike stands up straight, then I never get a leak, but if I just use the side kickstand, which has the bike leaning over to the left, that sometimes, she'll leak fuel. I try to remember to play the throttle grip a bit so it hopefully seats well..but can never tell. so might not be the needle? anyway.. I just got into the habit of using the full kickstand
  3. pretty much just followed my Fourtrax around all afternoon as I rode on my lil red honda CT90...my kids took their kids for rides back on the trails...wonderful memories being made for the 8yr old grandkids to be enjoying time with their mom n dad.
  4. pocket change if you're a drug runner skirting out at night to meet an offshore trawler and running for cover into the creeks...(grin) actually , way back when I was in high school, our small town was all a buz as the Feds busted a guy who we thought was just an insurance salesman. But he had a solid 75mph boat and would do just that...he knew the creeks, etc...so if it was just drug enforcement or local cops, he could easily outrun them. Finally coast guard with chopper and a shot across his bow from the guard's boat brought him down. but back in the early 1970s...his boat was a hot item to be able to turn that speed in open water.
  5. October is always a conflict for me and not being able to get my boat time in. we were on the lake 3 weekends ago. but october means Fall festival concert work, a big haunted trailer party here at the house, have a grandbaby shower for the newest soon to arrive, couple of birthday parties, grand kids in soccer , so games to attend, etc...seems like the boat just has to sit on the trailer. when the Fall leaves turn , cruising the lake is something we make a point to do, but after that, it'll be a wash and winterize and cover it all up...so I hate to see the season coming to a close.
  6. I guess it's all relative...to me, $1,500 for an old beater honda is an extravagant spend of the family funds... i tend to treat it like it's a $10,000 item and know that if I tear it up, I might not can justify the cost to repair. other guys just walk into a shop, plop down the cash or low interest credit card for a shiny new toy and then head straight to the mud pits. happy for them...but I'm happy to just to sit and watch.
  7. funny...good stories...thanks for sharing... I like to just ride and enjoy the scenery. Sometimes, when on the public trails I'll follow a group down to the basin and then just park and be enteratined while they go mudding...always amazed at guys that will take $5k-$8k worth of machine down in those mud holes. But it is fun to watch.
  8. wow...you boys play rough... grin.... I'm so easy on my ol bike...actually going easy on my old body.. LOL... there are times I'm on a trail and look down the 5 ft embankment into my creek bed and think...man...that would be fun sloshing through there...but I also know that some of the sand area is so soft that I sink 6 inches when I try to walk the creek bed...and I'm just too lazy to think about getting the bike stuck , having to winch and wrestle it out...etc...so I just keep it on the nice, flat, solid trail.

my old model 94 used to ride in a scabbard mounted on the front fork of my Trail 90. you can see the softside scabbard on the bike in this picture my 94 has that front sight "shroud"..no scope. I keep a small supply of the red tip Leverevolution ammo. Supposedly give me an extra 50yards? I dunno..deer around here from a stand...100yd max..and inside that range is where that 30-30 really works so well.

lord knows...my gun safe looks like the scratch n dent section at an appliance store. most of my guns were purchased used, and even then, they were fairly well kept by previous. but I carry mine, wear em when working on the property, etc...sweat, dirt, scratching. pretty much the same as my truck. I have guys at the office that have pickups that are always spotless, have never set foot off pavement, etc...mine tends to look like it got in a tussel in a ground war somewhere deep in Mexico. But I can tell you most every dent, and the great adventures/memories associated with them.

yep. I truly have tried to keep things consolidated..."tried"...grin. actually, when I started my small biz that exposed me to late nights and higher risk, I wasn't ready for a lot of gun stuff...so I grabbed a used little 32acp mouse gun from a friend..carried that for a couple years, realized it was useless in a gun fight, and little more than maybe a belly puncher, get off me tool. upgraded to a Colt mustang 380 to keep the small conceal option. but I wanted a larger home defense pistol, truck gun...and on paper at least 40cal looked good. So I grabbed an old duty pistol.. S&W 4006. Remember we were just coming out of the Clinton ban so 10rd capacity and in fact the 11rd mags for that gun are marked LEO only...silly times. I like the 40, but it pretty much magnifies any bad trigger habits I have. There is about 800rds on hand for it and a few boxes of premium loads as well...so any of the family that eventually inherits it will at least have plenty of spare mags and some ammo to feed it. but I'm a sucker for a purty 1911. and that became my primary pistol platform...so inventory stocked up to cover my training classes etc....while some people would think having 1,000-2,000rds on hand makes me extreme gun nut, it's cause they haven't taken training classes or been involved in shooting sports where they blow through 500+ rounds on a saturday, let along the practice time to prepare for it. while the wife likes her 9mm, and most of my adult kids wound up with 9mm platforms, I had not looked twice at adding another gun beyond my 1911s. then the whole high capacity debate continued to heat up.. I found myself buying a few extra 17rd mags for the wife's pistol. but I also realized that a day could come when we were returned to an AWB..and one that might not have a sunset date. so 9mm got added. Again, if I'm carrying, you'd still find me with just a 1911 on me...so a kimber ultra for example means I'm holding 7rds and a spare mag. But for normal life events, that should be good to get out of a mugging. I chose to go with some higher capacity 9mm platforms simply because some politicals are telling me I shouldn't be allowed to have them. other than some range time, they sit in the gun safe. Come a day when pandemic, social unrest etc gets to looking like Venezuela, then, yeah, a trip to the grocery store might be good to have 20plus round capacity and spare mags to provide the cover to get out of the parking lot with the week's food supplies. beyond that, it's a purely political driven response...had they not pushed, I would own more guitars instead of these guns.

I hear ya Nanook. I grew up in a pretty basic lower-middle class home. Dad enjoyed hunting..deer, pheasant and rabbit. he did all of that above with an old old Winchester model 12 in 16ga... slugs for the deer of course..used to call them punkin balls. anyway, that and a Ruger Mark 1 pistol were all a good man felt he needed in life in this great country of ours back in the 50s...and if he planned to plink on a Saturday , then he could swing by the Western Auto on his way home FRiday and buy a box of bullets...no worry about supply, about govt anti-gun pressure. a 32cal old pistol made it's way into his hands during the MLK riots when we were living in New Jersey...but again, that was as far as firearms got for us. I grew into manhood and responsible for my own family/household in the late 80s..by the time public opinion had turned, the Clinton AWB was upon me. so just as I was getting to the point where diaper funds were no longer needed and I might have some expendable income, it was tougher to find a firearm and even the wife was of the mindset that "we don't need a military weapon in the home" She had clear understanding that the Ruger mini 14 shot the same caliber round, had the same capacity, but it was a nice wood stock rifle, not a scary black military killing machine!!! so more years passed, more riots, more politicians telling us we should not be permitted to own anything more than a 5 shot revolver from 1800s firearm technology. She had become more acclimated over time and finally one day...after seeing ol Dianne Fienstien on the TV holding up an AR insisting on more gun control.. I just pulled my big boy panties up and told her I was buying an AR...she didn't push back...in fact, she now enjoys shooting the AR10, has her own collection of tools...10/22, M&P 9 compact for carry, Colt mustang 380, and a Ruger SR22. She's quite accurate on target..doesn't train enough on running the gun and doing drills, but she likes to plink the paper, ..more importantly , she is familiar with the manual of arms on various pistols, and long guns. Honestly, while I enjoy the shooting sport, I'd be happy if our world never required me to think about home defense shotguns, front yard sweeper AR15s, high capacity pistols for personal defense outside the home, etc. I didn't start this antigun political environment, I didn't start the whole "bad guy gets a deserved smackdown /shot by responding cops - lets' go riot" mindset, I didn't start the whole "I am justified to steal from people and play the knockout game cause they are a different race than I am" thing, but it is here..and so, yeah, invested in the tools, the supplies, many weekends of advanced training so that I feel I am capable AND responsible for the choice to carry deadly force.

nope...good to see some supply returning...mostly NATO. but 65-72 cents a round for basic range ball 5.56?...hard to swallow having range fun at that price, let alone having to stock up the reserve inventory..so I'm mostly hybernated on shooting sports. I probably should take a second look at the private sale of 1,000 rds at 45 cents. I've offered him $400, but he feels like he is offering me a fair price at $450...and in the end, that's $400-$450 that I don't need to spend on more ammo today. I'm sure the zombies will eat me before i exhaust my existing inventory. (grin) Definitely recommend shopping your local shops...especially if you have a law enforcement shop. example, month back, the local shop had 9mm brass listed at $27/box of 50. but they quietly sold me a case of it at $16/box of 50..so yeah, there is that much markup out there...so when I see these online big shops with their super "daily deals" trying to get $30+ for a box of cheapo as if the world is still desperate, well, I'll remember that when the market turns around...and I'll be willing to spend just a tad more with my local instead of going to the online boys. that was pretty much my policy over the years anyway. I'd see a Palmetto State Armory add for x$, I'd swing by my local shop and they might be $4/box more, I'd ask then quietly for a little love and they might knock $2/box off the price...still more than Palemetto, but I was happy to support my locals. and then when it came time for that next firearm or accessory, I'd be at their counter and they knew I was loyal to do that.

the rear fender behind the light idea...super cool...not sure if it'd be legal in some states, but very nice. the tailgate?...with me loading ATVs, heavy loads, and even the golf cart into the bed, yeah, I'd be worried something would get crushed...but for a basic hunt truck, that is really nice. friend sent me pic of the center isle of the local cop shop yesterday...had cases of PMC M855 5.56 available..but at $649 a case... I had to just laugh as I felt my stomach turn. he asked me if I wanted some regardless of the price...told him I had just recently walked away from a 45 cent/rd case price..so I wasn't about to bite on 65cents/rd. good to see they had supply again, but at that price, no wonder it was still on their floor. I do have the one older Colt A2 platform that performs better with the 62gr stuff and I've got a can full of that. But more likely, if I needed to grab an AR15 platform, it'd be the newer carbine and std 55gr ball is gonna do fine in that for varmits and zombies anyway. just thought you'd guys be interested to hear that supply does seem to be returning...just sooooo pricey at the moment.

yep...when I owned my concert biz, we covered her stage at our huge Memorial weekend event...her band had brought their own backline gear, but the promoter asked me to personally sit that stage as they were such a new act...so I pushed my lead tech over to the Credence Clearwater stage while I looked after the new one-hit wonder. truth be told, the gal has some chops. we also did Big & Rich several shows....Chevy was backing them for a couple Nascar events....band would roll out of the bus at 10am,still hurting from heavy drinking the night before...hitting the Monster drinks etc to get going for soundcheck...fun times...lots of memories...but don't miss it now that I've sold the biz and retired from national gigs like that.
  19. yep Sierra. I gotta say, not knowing as much as I should have about ATVs when I first started spending money, I was fortunate to get into a couple bikes that were old school, incredibly well built, not abused in their previous lives and I'm not particularly hard on them either...so 25 plus years on, my old 300 still kicks right over and runs great. I wouldn't mind a bigger, much larger cc workbike some times, but for just simple trail enjoyment, I actually prefer the small 300 machines...and I still prefer manual shift over ES...part of the fun is grabbin gears.
  20. funny...yeah, I can't say I actually enjoyed the cart work.. I just wasn't going to be held hostage and have to wait on the shop's backlogs...it might have been one thing for me to call and get an appointment to bring it in a month out, but they insist you bring it in today and then it sits for a month until they get around to it...no thanks. so that was my motivation in DIY land. I actually did the amp controller wrong the first time...youtube guy "almost" got it right but my unit was a tad different. my buggy is an old 2002/3 ezgo PDS...takes a beating out here on the property..in fact I need to do some work on it now...some of the wiring for the LED light bar etc are in need of cleanup..now that it's getting dark earlier, I'll need those lights.
  21. I guess I'm a combination of lazy and intimidated in my own ignorance (Grin) I'll do some very basic things..swap out a carb, on the golf cart i guess I got more determined cause all the area shops were backed up for 2-4 months!! and I wanted mine fixed/upgraded now. so I learned how to upgrade the cables, the amp controller, etc, rear suspension leaf springs...again, nothing hard about that. but the idea of making the time and tearing into a complete motor rebuild?...not gonna happen...just being honest with myself. but doesn't stop me from admiring others who can...good fer you!
  22. i sure respect your knowledge and ability to get into these bikes and do all that work.
  23. Sunday. the 8 yr old twin grandaughters were over...one of them quietly comes up to me and says "I brought my blue jeans and helmet today" ...big shy grin. so, I pulled out the old blue bike and we took turns spinning the property with them squealing and laughing with joy. good day...good Honda....good Pap

have one of those FAT torque drivers.. I think that's what it's called. the barrel seat adjust is at different levels for my wife's fixed stock, stainless 10/22 and my takedown model. But both are equally accurate as they are individually adjusted. with the takedown, having a scope mounted on it, sure...it runs the risk of changing every time you break the rifle apart and put it back together. But honestly I've seen more variety when shifting ammo than I do with taking the rifle down and back up. very enjoyable plinker..just not a long ranger..and that's fine.
  25. here's what I know..about 6 months before you reach eligible age...your phone will start to ring...and your cell phone, and your mail box will have daily stuff in it. I swear ta God.. I get 11 calls a day wanting to sign me up...most of the calls are some crap indian or asian sweat shop call center. I've told them to stop, I've ignored them, I've screamed colorful language at them.. my cell phone will ring at the same time my house rings..unbelievable abuse!! yeah.. I already talked to my company benefits person.. I turned 65 Dec 1st.. I'll sign on to Part A at no cost as I still have my employers insurance program. maybe then, they'll stop calling me...oh wait.. my wife is next in April...the horror continues !!!
