  1. the part number i posted above ^^^^^^..that is straight off rmatv, which only sells oem honda, and that part number is for a 1988 trx350D only !!!!.
  2. i've had this carb part at least 3 times. i got it to idle just fine, but when i rev it ?, it climbs up, then bogs down. either the c.d.i. is faulty ?, or the carb is not getting enough fuel ?, or the petcock is starving the carb, cuz this petcock works off vacuum, most suzies do. i called it a day on it for now, gonna yank her out, roll her back to her parking spot, and go to work on the gal's 450, gotta rip the engine back out, rip it apart, find out what is making a noise in it ?..so this thing gets the back burner for now.
  3. here is the part number that should be on the box ----> 30401-HA7-670 , if it does not have his part number on the box ?, then you got the wrong c.d.i.
  4. for the record, i've been doing this 30 yrs..i know these models inside out...there ain't much about them i do not know ?!..lol.
  5. again...post the FULL PART NUMBER OFF THE BOX THAT THE C.D.I. CAME IN PLZ !
  6. other than the valve work you did, put everything that you took off it..back on. my money say's there is an electrical issue..either harness side ?, or reg/rec ?, or c.d.i. you need to call that place you purchased the c.d.i. from, and ask them about what they sold you ?, what is the part number on the box that the new c.d.i. came in ?..post it here in this thread.
  7. does the fuel pump '' tick '' when you are cranking it over ?, if not ?, then the fuel pump is bad. as you already said you bought a new fuel cut-off relay, so that rules that out. which means the fuel pump is bad. is the fuel pump oem ?..or did you get it off ebay or amazon ?. if its not from honda ?..its a china knock-off..junk.
  8. and what about the fan control unit...how did you test this ?..because there is no test for it...other than replacing it with a new oem control unit !. you can however, unplug the fan control wire from the oil temp switch, turn key on, ground the wire to the engine for a good ground..when you do this, the fan should kick on. if it does ?..then this tells me the fan control might be the bad part. the bad news is...this fan control unit is no longer being sold today.
  9. you need to double check what yr c.d.i. you bought ?..that model/year is a ONE YEAR ONLY !. no other c.d.i's will work on that bike !. don't tell me you bought a oem c.d.i. from some place out of new york ?, if that person knows anything about this year/make ?..then they should know very well that bike is a one year only for the c.d.i. if it ran ( fired off ) before you tore into it ?, then this tells me you got a problem some where in the electrical area..what and where ?..i do not know ?..what i do know is, you changed something to make it not fire the plug now !..now you must back track, and see where this issue is ?.
  10. nah, carb wasn't bad off, other than the idle cranked up too high ?.the crank case on the other hand had more fuel in it than engine oil !..lol.
  11. it was raining when i posted this, i did not even have it in my shop yet, lol.
  12. moving right along, first thing i discovered was some dummy thought this was a 2-stroke ?, the air box was full of mixed fuel that i dumped out !..hey dummy...THIS IS A 4-STROKE !..LOL. i got it to start, but it won't idle worth a crap, and the throttle is sticking almost wide open once it gets started. another thing is the fuel petcock won't shut the fuel off ?, not sure whats up with that ?. i tried to turn the idle screw to get it to idle down, but the screw wont budge for some reason ?, not sure if the slot is buggered up or what ?. i've got a carb that came with it in a box, i'll see if i can swap them out, maybe get it to run better, or shall i say normal ?..lol.

My bud came by the other day to bring me some cash to pay for the trx500fm crank, he had this stuffed into the back of his little green wagon..lol. he said it may need a top end ?, got it unloaded, rolled it around back, while we stood there talking about it, i reached down to the pull crank, gave it a couple pulls, it felt like it had compression ?..hmm..how lucky could i be ?...after a pull good pulls, it half '' hit '' . then it finally hit an ran for a few sec's !..we both stood there in shock. he say's..wow..they told me it needed a top end..would not run !. sooo.once i get the trx500fm out of the shop, i think i'm goona roll this in, give it a '' going over '', and make a fast buck. i'll have him deduct some cash off my tractor that he paid for me, i've about got that paid off, so this will ease the tab down..lol. i'll get some pic's of it after i get it in the shop. i normally do not work on suzies ?..but this is a cute little thing..and it don't seem to be in bad shape ?, i'll get it knocked out fast, then i'll get the trx450 back in the shop, start tearing it down. worse case for this suzie will be the clutch ( drive line ) does not work ?, then this will have to wait, i'll roll it back out, get the 450 in the shop.
  15. last update: got eveything back on this puppy, gonna head down later this morning to get some gas, add some to this thing, back her out, i've done all i'm gonna do to it, i pray i never see another trx500 for a very long time !..lol.

  17. the engine over all is a tad bigger in size, which makes it heavier.
  18. update: he showed up, oil in, fuel to carb, fired right off in front of him. few things to put back on, then its out of my shop, 450 goes back in for tear down..sigh..lol.
  19. i did not get a top end gasket kit, i got the gaskets separate from rmatv. and yes..i forgot this gasket..lol.
  20. update: engine is back in the frame, started at 6:30 am this morning. waiting for this guy to bring some engine oil, battery, ex head gasket ( copper gasket ), then with a little luck some time today ?..i can crank this puppy up !.
  21. if it was making the noise while sitting there running all the time ?, then yes..i would try to record it ?, but its not doing this ?, this is something inside on the tranny, a bad gear or something, maybe i got a bad gear ? maybe the gear dogs are bad ?, maybe i installed a gear without a thrust washer ?..i do not know ?..what i do know is..no recording is going to pick it up, and its better to show this in a pic when i find the problem..this why folks will know what to look for :-).
  22. update: got the engine all back together, i'll try to get it back in the frame tomorrow, i just came in, i'm beat. here is a few pics as it sits.
  23. no need in trying to record it..its not consistant , i think its the dogs on one of the gears on the transmission. one way to find out, pull it, split it, see what is going on.
  24. no..this is a transmission noise, something is not right with the transmission gears, its like the dogs are rubbing ?. i'll know more once i pull the engine, split it back apart.
