update: got off the phone with my bud earlier, he said a new '' hot rod's '' connecting rod, parts and labor would run 270 otd, this includes a oil seal kit. i may or moay not get it back tomorrow ?, we'll see. i am waiting on the piston kit from rmatv, prob wont see that until around fri-sat this week ?. but at aleast i can get the lower engine back together once i get the crank back.

my bud told me my 20 ton press would work for pressing atv cranks apart, and he's the man i trust very much, when he tells me something ?, i listen !. he's been a honda mechanic for longer than i've been alive i believe. ?. he has taught me a lot in my 30 yrs of doing this kinda work, very smart man. p.s. he also said its easier to cut the rod with a cut-off wheel type of tool, then press the pins out once the crank is apart.

just dropped the crank off at my buds place, lets see how long it takes for him to get the new rod on it ?..lol.

send it all back..pure junk..lol.

still working on getting a rod for this, buddy of mine will be the one doing the work on it. won't know until later today ?. one of these days, i need to take an old crank, and see if i can get it apart with my shop press, press a new crank rod back on. i don't have the right tools to check to make sure its pressed back together '' true '' ?, soo..it will be a crap shoot if i attempt. this. has anyone here tried doing a crank rod replacement ?, chime in if ya have ?.

everything is high dollar now, we know who to thank for this !. i ordered a outer clutch for this '02 trx450fm couple days ago, way back when i replaced this part on my '03 trx450fm, it was around 100 bucks ( give or take ) i had to order it from partzilla ( shiver ) , this very same outer clutch part cost me 260 something bucks !. i would have got it from rmatv, but they did not have any in stock, where is partzilla did. sad part about all of this is..it's only going to get worse from here on out !.

update: ebay seller got the piston kit back yesterday, now i wait for my full refund. i may have some one to press a new rod on this old crank ?, won't know until tomorrow. i had to order a std piston, std rings, wrist pin, and wrist pin clips from rmatv, bout 160 and some change otd. now all i need is the oil seals, i'll see if my rod guy can get the oil seals when he orders the rod.

agreed. i can fix a lot of stuff...but i can't fix stupid !..lol. until these folks learn the hard way ?..there is not a single person alive that can teach them right from wrong.

you will be very...VERY lucky this engine not only cranks ?..but runs very long ?.. i pitty you for using that red rtv sealant..i have no words for you, now i know why everything you touch breaks down !..lol.

lol..i cringe when i see red rtv on any honda..let alone any kind of engine ?..it just leaves a bad feeling towards the owner.

on ring end gap, i like to see about 1/32 on the gap, anything larger than this, tells me it will smoke ?, or not enough compression ?.

just placed an order from partzilla ( grrrrrr ! ) , because rmatv did not have the outer clutch housing ?, that rang up otd to $ 266.70. i figured what the heck, may as well replace that, seeing how i got it all apart ?. yeah yeah..it was pricey ?..but i'm not dealing with more clutch issues from here on out. the outer clutch housing looked very rough from grooves from the one-way bearing ?, i tried to get some pic's ?, but it's very hard to focus on such a shiny area , said screw it, i'll just tell them..lol. anyway, more money..more time..it's not like i'm broke or anything huh ?.. ( sigh..i will be after this build ! ). :-).

update: ok, got her up in the air, front cover pics during tear down once again !. if this new one-way bearing does not solve the problem ?, then it looks like i will be pulling this engine, and going back through it to find out what the problem is ?/!. the centrifugal clutch is just resting on the crank, i put it back on there to keep up with the parts.

let me guess..he broke into the wrong house ?..lol.

he better not contact me ?..i've seen pics of him using red rtv sealant on that 350 rancher ?..if this is the case ?..he'll be better off not ever contacting me !..rofl.

made a trip to harbor freight yesterday afternoon, purchased a 8000 lb hand winch, i'm gonna hang it from my shop floor, use it to jack the front end this time, instead of draining the oil again !. will make it alot easier to work on when its up in the air. i'll get some pics of this process if ya'll want to see how i do it ?.

yes..this will be my gal's bike. we both will have matching atvs...cept mine has a warn 2500-s on it, i told her..I'M NOT PUTTING A WINCH ON YOUR ATV @ $ 600.00 dollars !..lol.
