  1. i should have been alittle more clearer, i measure the top, middle, and bottom with rings. most times i end up boring the cylinder just to play if safe. once in a while, i can hone, new rings, run it, but not very much.

  3. i hate to rain on yer parade ?, but if you are putting that red crap on most of that 350 ranchers parts ?, you are in for a huge surprise when i comes time to crank it over !..lol.
  4. i don't go by the book when it comes to torque values, i go by feel, then again..i've been doing it 30 yrs..sooo..lol.
  5. haha...well..i had other stuff pop up back a few months ago, so i had to walk away from this project. now that i got a chance to fire it up, test ride it ?, all the unknowns reared its ugly head, sooo..i got to tear back into these areas to fix it.
  6. in my 30 yrs of doing this work, i've never used a bore tool. i take the rings, slide them one by one down into the cylinder, then hold it up to a light, if the cylinder or rings are bad ?, light will show through the rings. with the naked eye, you can tell if the rings are bad. most times i'll use my caliber's to measure the bore at the top of the cylinder, if its out there ?, then i have it bored.
  7. only use yamabobd or hondabond..DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE BUT ONE OF THESE !. air impact the nut down good..leave alone. all nuts on these models are reg threads, lefty loosie. been there a million times...never could find out the problem..'' it just fixed itself '' by just putting it all back together..yep..been there..done that. what i can tell you is..even if we '' thought '' we did the same thing ?, chances are..you done something different, and did not see it !.
  8. well, it seems yu'll be waiting a tad longer ?..got issues with the one-way clutch bearing and light/kill switch, got those ordered as of now.
  9. haha...well...as bad as i hate to admit it ?, no...i did not beat you !. reason: just found out today, that the one-way clutch bearing is bad !!, sigh..so no...i did not beat you. ordered a oem one-way bearing from rocky mountain atv, as well as a light switch ( left handle bars ), as this one decides when to turn the lights on no matter where the button is at ?..lol. there went another 200 bucks easy !...sigh. when i went to test ride it after getting the clutches changed out, i kept hearing a rattle coming from some where ?, was not sure where it was coming from though ?. i found out today..when i discovered the front diff not working right ? ( changed that out ). went to back it out for another test run, sure enough, the rattle noise started again ?..hmm..ok..back in the shop. can't be the tranny, it shifts great through all gears. can't be the rear or front diff's ?, those worked great. i know for a fact its not the clutches, those are brand new !. whats left i thought ?. ok..got the 450 in the shop, in neutral, rolled it backwards , rolled easy, went to roll it forward, it rolled easy..then came to a stop as if i put it in gear ?..wth ??..i stood there thinking..hmm..lets try this again..rolled backwords..went to roll forward...it caught again ?!..i stood there thinkng about it..then it dawned on me...THAT STUPID ONE-WAY CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH BEARING !. soo..ordered it, and a new lights/kill switch.
  10. update: still waiting on piston kit to get back to the ebay seller, tracking shows its in ME right now, soon as it gets to the seller, they give them 3 bizz days to get my money back. i could order another bottom end kit from a different seller on ebay ?, but that would cut my cash very close to empty ?..soo..just gonna wait on this cash back from this seller.
  11. update: took it for a spin, she's shifting all good now, no issues at all. need to put the splash guards back on, then hopefully i'll be done with this project !.
  12. you can down load the service manual from our sight here for free. you can also go to partzilla or rocky mountain atv, pull up the year, make, model for a break down of this atv. post some pics of this atv...we like atv pics !.
  13. update: new clutches are installed ( both clutches ), just came in to rest up. its cold outside, once it warms up, i'll take it for a spin up and down my street to see if it's gonna act right ?. will update later on this.
  14. haha..already compared the 450's to the 500's crank...you are correct, the 500 crank is only for the 500's !. as for jerry-rigging it ?, ain't gonna happen, this is a cust, not mine, he's paying top dollar to have it built right, soo..this only leaves oem all the way ( cept the crank, not paying over 700 bucks for one ). soon as i get my cash ( well...his cash ) back from that crappy ebay seller ?, i'll look for another bottom end kit from a diff seller.
  15. update: got the clutch parts in yesterday ( thursday 2-16-2023 ) , i'll probably head out to the shop here soon, make room to get her back in the shop, start tearing the front end down so i can replace the clutches. this will take me all day to do, my only concern is..is i do not have another clutch cover gasket ?, i just hope i can get the cover off without tearing the new gasket ?..if i can pull this off, i'll be good to go !.
  16. update: finally got the pre-paid return label emailed to me, got that printed off, ran down to the the post office yesterday, the piston kit is on its way back. now i've got to wait until that gets back before i can get all my money back, sigh. i got the oem cylinder kit, oem gaskets, oem cam chain, oem oil filter, with o-rings , spark plug , oem oil temp sensor, first gear set , rocker box gasket, mainly every thing to rebuild the engine, cept the dang crank !..lol. as soon as i get my money back, i will order another crank, AND NOT FROM THAT LAST EBAY SELLER !.
  17. lol..i think ?..i we ran neck and neck on these !..lol. i got my gals 450 done..but !..it has clutch trouble from what i found out when i went to back it out of my shop. i got new clutch parts in, just have not got her back in the shop yet, tear the front end down.
  18. i have a few from this pic, the letter punch set i have is in a very old wooden box. the hole punch set i got for making my own gaskets.

  20. welcome to our forums. well , one thing is for sure !, you picked a great screen name ?..IT WILL MATCH YOUR BANK ACCOUNT JUST FINE BY THE TIME YOU GET ALL NEW PARTS TO MAKE IT WORK !..LOL. ok..now that is out of the way. anytime a ignition key is gone, wires mangled ?, this tells me it's either stolen ?, or, the owner/owners lost the keys alot ?. you will need a new wire harness, DO NOT WASTE TIME WITH THAT MESSED UP HARNESS !. ( unless you are very skilled with wires and connectors ? ), you will need a new hour/speedo meter , this may or may not be discontinued today ?, if you do find one ?, it will not be cheap !. good on you for getting a ignition switch ( i hope you got oem from honda ? ). and did not buy one from ebay are amazon ?..as most on there are china-knock offs !. there will be more parts you will need later..i'll bank on it !. you must have a good wire harness, hour/speedo meter, all lights on dash working, eps the neutral light !, as it will not fire the spark plug unless the dash shows a neutral light. please keep us informed of your progress, we'll be here for you !.
  21. bad stator ?, or bad reg/rec ?..or both !..lol. if it was firing before you tore it down ?, then back track your work, and go through the process of what you may have done different ?. aslo, a bad fuel pump relay will keep it from firing spark plug.
  22. but what about the oil seals ?. trying to get a whole bottom end kit...and i would have, if ebay did not mess with me !. once i send this piston kit back to these dip sticks ( that's if they would send me a return label ! ), i'll get all my money back. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM EWS MOTORSPORTS ON EBAY !!!. They drop shipped the bottom end kit from another seller, sent me the piston kit, packing slip shows everything was delivered here ?, AND IT WASN'T !...ALL I GOT WAS THE PISTON KIT !..LOL. after i tossed a neg review at the selller, they cancelled my bottom end kit while it was headed here, but left me hanging with the piston kit ?..grrr..i'm not done with these ! hats yet !.

  24. update: well..this ship sunk fast, ebay has screwed me around on the bottom end kit, dealing with that right now. i'll update this thread later when i find out more on how the ebay seller is going to fix this mess.
  25. welcome ray, as for the cdi, as wilson said ^^, tons of chain knock-offs out there, as oem cdi's are discontinued today. last but not least, 1988 models are a ONE YEAR ONLY for the cdi's !. meaning, forget what ebay, amazon sellers '' claim '' ?, they may have sold you a cdi saying it fits all trx350's ?..where in fact..NO..they do not !..
