  1. if the rope breaks you can always just thread it back threw the hook and tie a knot and get by. that's darn hard to due with a cable. or tie a knot in the rope and it if its small enough to go around the spool you can leave it till you get back home and replace it with a new one.
  2. put down a small tarp over the area and cover with your fancy rocks for 1 year and then should stay gone then. then plant back what you want or just leave with the rock cover need to make sure the tarp drains water away from the house though if you go that route.
  3. What size is your winch? i have 2 warn winches a2000 with cables 1 of these since 2002 still in good shape. 2 warn 1500 with ropes 1 warn 3000 with rope, gets a lot of use as it part of a rear logging arch on a 450 foreman I'd say 3/16 x 50 get new roller fair lead check your drum and sides for any rough spots and smooth them out before you put rope on.
  4. Probably not gonna work for you dearchristpher but I have a heavy metal ring 14" diameter 8" high I have set up on small blocks over problem stumps or bushes that won't die. Fill ring full of wood have camp fire, rinse repeat every 3 weeks or every weekend for 4 months or so it sterilizes the group with being heated up and the problem bush have not come back. or I've made the spot part of my atv trail loop and it gets road down every time I start a atv. Right now in mud season is a great time to turn them trouble spots into dirt tracks! Just have to keep at it. Gives me excuse to ride my close trails at the house all the time.
  5. Glad to be here, have a pic of my atv line up there's 6 of them From left to right 03 foreman 450es with cycle country 3 point and home made rear logging arch 02 foreman 450s with small snowplow blade 02 rancher 350es stock tires and chains home made salt box on rear rack. 2000 recon 250 has hand shifter fun to ride after you been on a foreman for a while 85 trx 125 runs and smokes check gas add oil and go! 86 200sx fast and fun sorry I don't have a better pic but this was the only time they was all together the rancher is in town doing winter snow removal for 3 house's. The foreman"s and the recon have done snow removal at my house in the country.
  6. Good year mud runner would look nice on there. i don't know if you can get them in your size or not but here's a pic of my rancher with them
  7. From yesterday's new member to today's new member welcome! what part of Wisconsin? im in the sw corner Iowa county
  8. the old Honda and winch are on the other end of this got used for picking up the cement sink so that I could put the wood frame stand under it. then Used my Dad's tractor and forks to pick up the sink and frame to place out by the garden for use there. winch worked great as it gave me fine tune lifting and lowering down onto the wooden frame that I had built.
  9. Heck I had the ATV and that trailer out in the swamp land and buried the ATV I had like 5 kids in the trailer and had to hook to a tree to pull the ATV and trailer threw the mud hole. Had the kids get out of the trailer to reduce the drag but the trailer was sunk up to the axle along with the ATV and it winched out no problems at all.
  10. Winch has been there since 2002 when the ATV was new and its seen its far use and hasn't bent the rack yet. its on a thick metal plate that is welded to the flat spots on the front rack. used for pulling out other stuck ATV's . Works great at pulling out stuck ATVs as the winch is the high point and pulls up/out to get the stuck ATV out of the hole that it is in. When this one is stuck and using the winch to get out Have to hope the anchor tree is big enough that you can hook up high, if not and only a small tree you hook low and the front plows down when winching but try and feather with the throttle to get up and out of the mud hole that I'm in. or the snow bank. Heck I know a few times When I've been pulling something and the ATV has move and not the object that I have wanted to pull and I have chained the rear of the ATV to a tree and then ran a pulley at the object then back to the front tow hook on my ATV to increase pulling power and the front rack survived that. Its a WARN 2000 winch so not a top of the line beefy unit but has served me well. I like having the winch up on the front rack alot easier to make sure the cable lays back in correct and not becoming a birds nest mess. I have winch's on 4 of my ATVs, and If I have to pick a ATV for winching duty for something I usually use this one. The other 3 have winch's under the fender this is the only rack mount winch I have. Got this ATV from my Brother and he wanted the Winch on the front rack so that is where it went. I guess the winch has not failed me yet being on the rack where it is and its staying there for the foreseeable future as well. pic of the Foreman in winter mode with the plow and the electric lift actuator for plow up/down the winch is the emergency back up for if the electric actuator fails me.
  11. Yes also need to know where more maple trees are as well. my woodland is mostly oaks and cherry and elm, some hickory. summer time to due is mark more maple trees and also at garage sales find some better steam pans. my first year doing this so its a steep learning curve for me/wife and the kids!
  12. Prov your talking that fancy talk stuff now! thanks for the great advice! Was told when we got down to the last bit in the small pot it would foam up like crazy and to just let it keep foaming and then when it died down some is when to pull it off. so that is what we did, The Syrup tasted pretty good fresh off the strainer that we ran it through then it went into the house for the wife to finish process and into the jars it went. Haven't had a chance to taste it since then. if we due this again next year I'm sure we will refine the process and get better at it. It'll be up to the kids if the want to help with the leg work of doing it.
  13. can gather sap for up to 7 day's then have to process it, from what the wife said. have to store sap cold also, we go and harvest every day as well. this is my first year doing this so I'm a learing as I go and its been a steep curve in some things.
  14. ill get sap gathering pics tonight when I make my gathering trip, we only have 9 trees tapped and only are getting about 3-4 gallons a day,
  15. this is my brother-in-law and the stove that he made in about 1 hour, wasn't super fast but didn't cost much and it worked great for the final finish down of the the sap, he just used stuff he had on hand.
  16. keep fire stoked with small pine branches that burn fast and hot and then add in some bigger wood chunks to keep it going
  17. 1st time doing sap so I'm learning as I go. this is my sap boiling setup, took me about 3 hours to make give or take. got the plans of the net roughly, put fan in front to blow air onto fire and it seemed to work okay. just take time is all. its a boil down 40-1 ratio, from what I have read, This is the first year of doing Maple syrup, first pan get warm and 2nd pan boils it down. keep at it till you get down to the last gallon or 1/2 gallon in my case, we had 18 gallons to start with. on the fire at 7:30am pulled off at 3:30pm had a 2nd smaller barrel stove that we ran as well I can cook 4 gallons at a time 2nd stove can only due 2 1/2 gallons at a time but 2nd stove worked great for when we go down to the last 2 gallons finished it up on that stove.
  18. no worries, shadetree, I'm sure all the admins and Mod's are working hard behind the scenes to make things better and flow. just glad to have a go to ATV site for if/when I need help fixing my Honda ATV's though being Honda's they are pretty good and just keep gas and oil in them and go! I'm of the type that likes to have a go to site to ask for help for a problem before I have the problem and then have to find a site and ask for help and then the help you get can sometimes be iffy when your a first time poster and such.
  19. I took the 02 Foreman out in the rain on a maple syrup gathering trip. have also used the 03 foreman for gathering trips, the 2000 recon as well though it didn't work so well in the deep snow and pulling the trailer and 2 kids had to get off and push it threw Have had 9 trees tapped for 8 days now and avg 3-4 gallons collected a day. did maple syrup making last sunday had fire going from 7:30am to 3:30pm to boil it down to make the syrup. my 8 year old daughter wanted to make maple syrup so we are trying it out this year.
  20. yep I would like to have forums for the major Honda model line's but for now I'm just happy to have a place to talk honda ATV's just gonna miss all the info that was in the forum as I would try to search for my problem and find the solution vs asking something that has been asked 7 times within the last year. When I had a unique or problem that I could not find then I would ask. Also I liked going back to my old post and referring to what I had done when on my ATV's.
  21. yea my Chinese is not so good that is for sure,! though I due miss the model break down sections of the old hondaATV site but not gonna sort threw spam and junk. just gonna miss the knowledge that was there in all the old post's you could search for things to find answer's to your problems or at least give you things to try before posting the same old question again and again.
  22. found my way here from Hondaforum.com just had to sort threw all the spam over there and found out about this site. glad to be here. that is all sublime out. 85 trx 125 86 200sx 2000 Recon 02 Foreman 450S 02 Rancer 350 ES 03 Foreman 450ES
