  1. making good progress only to be stopped by parts needed to finish said project. happens to many!
  2. wow that's impressive, most impressive! are you gonna make these at all and sell them? id be in the market for 2-3 depending upon the price?
  3. how old is the gas that is in it? id start with a new spark plug. Air filter as well, due some of the basic stuff before you dive into the more advance stuff. and im not a great atv mechanic at all but hopefully one of the more advance members will be by and give you more to due shortly! how many miles on the ATV oh and welcome to atvhonda
  4. now is where I run into problems is when I try and return the choke to the off postion it wont return the line binds up and crimps at the lever end, the cable is free as I can pull it back by hand with a little effort but the spring on the carb end of this just dosn't have the power to pull the choke lever back. is this I need a new choke cable? like I said I can pull it back by hand and it moves but I have no reference point to how free are these cables suppose to be? or is there an adjustment that I can make that will give the spring some more springing power to pull the choke lever back to the no choke condition that you want when the engine is running? I hope this all makes sense and I used the correct terms. I'm far from a good engine mechanic I'm a learning as I go on these. I thinking I'll just get a new choke cable and see how that goes for me on this. thanks for viewing and your thoughts on this. pic 1 is the lever end where it is crimped and not pulled back straight, pic 2 is the choke end where the spring has not pulled back the cable from the lever end at all sublime
  5. so then I put the choke lever in the choke postion for when you want to start the ATV and get this following Pic 1 is the lever end, Pic 2 is the carb end all seems to be fine and dandy yet.
  6. so i have contined on my tear down and am working on the choke cable as it dosn't return to the non choke setting at all. 2 pics of the choke in the off position, I have the handle bar rotated upside down to make it easy to see what is going on with the choke lever. pulled the choke line out from the carb and its just sitting up on the frame rail. for the pics pic 1 is the lever end pic 2 is the end for the carb.
  7. retro, Awesome write up thanks for taking the time to post this up for us!
  8. this from the Guy I got it from, so its a free and clear machine, sorry for all the confusion about this, that's what you get for trying to remember a 10 min conversation from 4 years ago about things. His words below. "Never got around to trying to register it, but I don't think there would be a problem. Buddy got it from a relative in Texas. Ran for 4 minutes? I wonder if flipping the fuel petcock the other direction would do it. Not sure. Do I remember having trouble with that? Seems to me I ran it more one direction rather than the other. Wish I could remember which way. (2 years ago) I did think it would run. I should look. Might have another air filter in the garage. Will check. If I do, I will send it with Shele."
  9. This is most of mine, missing a 02 foreman and a 96 300 but this is the others. From left to right, 03 foreman 450es 86 200sx 85 trx 125 02 rancher 350es 2000 recon 250
  10. impressive to get that much dirt moved with just a little trailer like what you have that is alot of shoveling!
  11. If I can get it all fixed up, I would like to use it for plowing snow In town and Ill need a wisconsin DNR Department of Natural Resources Sticker to run on the roads in town and not be hassled by the police. Need current Reg sticker and Flashing Yellow Light and ATV can go 2.5 miles on City road's for the purpose of snow removal. I currently use a 02 Honda Rancher 350ES but sometimes the ES gives me problems and the Wife likes that Quad for the ES shifting when we go riding around the trails I have at home. Having the Rancher on Plow duty takes away from the winter riding times from her. Its only 7 miles away in town but if we have a free afternoon in January and the temp is warm enough its to go for a ride its 1 hour of hassle to go get the ATV time I fish trailer out of snow bank hook it up go to town load up ATV and return home drop plow etc.... already have to drop plow from my atv for the trail ride. I don't mind dropping 1 plow to go for a ride and having to hook back up when I need it. But having to due 2 gets to be a bit much. At home the ATV is in a nice warm shop and hookup isn't a big deal. In town if I drop plow there its cold unheated cement or I bring it back home and drop in the shop at home and hook back up and then take to town so it's there ready to go. I'll talk to the guy I got it from and find out more of the backstory if I can. I thinking it was left abandoned at some point. if I have the story correct. but being stolen and abandoned is different than being just abandoned. may pay the $9 for the report and find out what that say's. thanks for all your thoughts I should have just kept the backstory part to myself. I may have the whole story backwards or side ways as well. so who know's. my saga will continue I guess.
  12. so if it was at 1500 and your down to 1100 id go for that, its 10 miles to go and get it and then you have something to work on during the stay at home that is going on now. that is if you have the $$$ to spend on a project.
  13. got the vin from the machine, any body have any good website that they use to run the vin threw and stuff like that? my quick search came back with, https://www.faxvin.com/ any body else got any that they use? its $8.95 for the report from them. also the battery been unhooked since yesterday and is down to 9.25 volts so i'm a thinking that the battery is toast.
  14. id offer $1,000.00 but if you need a project and are capable that is something to due now if you have the time and all that and its close to where you live?
  15. Used the atv to move the old outhouse that is now the wife's garden storage shed, Have chicken coop in the front house yard that is going where the outhouse was so it got moved. the ATV just didn't have the weight to pull with out spinning the tires and the old outhouse is not a back up and yank type of move it need tender care or I'll have to rebuild it again. so anchor the ATV to the truck and use the rear winch to inch the outhouse into its new spot.
  16. after I got it running with the big car battery hooked up to the wires, I shut it off hooked up the atv battery and it had enough to start the atv on its own and went for my little ride till it died and then didnt want to turn over on either the atv or the big car battery, at that point it was starting to rain so it got dragged back to the shop pushed inside and put up on the ramps. found out also the choke is stuck in the choke position. as I set it out to choke when trying to get it started and then it would not return. that probably not doing me any favors either. just making a list of all that I'll need to get sorted out on this thing. yep I have a feeling a new battery is in the works for this ATV. or I'll buy a new one for one of my Winter Plowing quad's that I need them to start when i want them to start and give this one the battery from that one.
  17. So I got it to run and seemed fine took it out of the shop for a quick spin and it ran for about 5 minutes and then died, then didn't want to even crank over. did shift fine and no clunking noise when moving or anything like that. Brakes are booth weak front and back but working. grrrrr. pulled back into the shop and up on the ramps it goes! for a somewhat teardown.
  18. and then the 69 140 as well don't want to leave that one out either,
  19. This was my Fleet, of 3 I sold the 214 John Deere so now I'm down to the Stable of just 2 John Deere 140's the Mower is a 1969 140 the tiller is 1974 140 Love them booth! I also Have a Cub Cadet that does most of the mowing the JD is just for backup. I have only had the 140's for a year or so. got them at a auction for $250 and $450 the 74 Tiller didn't run and I bought the tiller for it and changed it over to the bar tires all around.
  20. most of my ATV's for the reverse I have put a couple of Zip Ties on the cable up by the handle bars that takes care of having to use the button to shift into reverse. Its a quick 2 min fix of that problem for me.
  21. I don't have any advice, than the other's. I have 2002 Rancher ES with 7,500 miles on the clock and every now and then my shifter don't want to work either. I have had the angle sensor replaced and still have the same problem. sometimes it wont want to shift into Reverse or shift down if you shut it off in gear. This is not a daily problem but out of 20 days 1 day will be this way. I bought this http://hondaesshifter.com/ put on where the emergency shifter goes and for that 1 day I use the foot shifter to get the gear I need. The Foot shifter is not as nice as the regular foot shift but it beats the heck out of using the emergency shift lever. I use this ATV in winter for snowplowing and not being able to shift 1st to R is a big deal when plowing snow. Also keep a top level battery in it as well and keep it charged up mine has a trickle charger on it when parked in the winter. best of luck in getting this to work. just thought I would give you another option to consider. the Hondaesshifter is not the greatest thing but it has worked and saved me and kept the ATV going where I would have been forced to shovel by hand and drag the ATV back home and invest more $$$ into making it work better.
  22. You have done a lot of work to that quad! great job!
  23. Thank you Goober that going above and beyond to help me out on things!
