Eh, Yamaha is still staying the same gene pool, right?

My wife really liked the Rincon we borrowed one night (hers broke down, my buddy left his key in his Rincon at his camp, so we helped ourselves to it LOL)

The Rincon shines as a trail machine, but they don't offer them with PS.

She's not getting a Rincon.  She'd wrap it around a tree after a few beers.

You are correct that yamaha is in the same gene pool. I've owned yamaha yz 250 dirt bikes for 30 years and a few old four wheelers. They are great quality. Too bad the Rincon doesn't have power steering.

The newer Rubicon is the only IRS machine that is offered in a manual shift. Everything else is the automatic. I have a 420 auto with power steering and I am use to how it shifts so that doesn't bother me. As far as a plush ride, it's smother than a SRA but the lack of suspension travel I wouldn't call it plush. If you go to the other brands you'll find better power steering and the plush rides but that's the dark side.. lol

That was what i was thinking. I've heard Polaris has outstanding suspension on their utility quads.

Don't know how they ride, but to get IRS with a footshift you have to go Rubicon.

My wife had a DCT (automatic) Rancher with IRS, didn't want power steering, and she hated the way it shifted.  She ended up claiming an 05 Rubicon that I picked up a year or so ago.

Thanks, we don't want an auto shift either. DCT does that stand for dual clutch transmission?

  4. I'm looking for the easiest steering and plushest riding Honda four wheeler for my wife. She has a shoulder injury that can't take all the bouncing and pushing and pulling on the bars. I know Honda has four wheel independent suspension and power steering but I have no personal opinions about them because I've never rode one. We currently have a pair of entry level TRX 420's that are perfect for me and her when no bouncing on rocks etc. Does anyone know if Honda makes a four wheel independent suspended, power steering ,manual shift 420 and how does it compare with other brands and models with premium suspension? Thanks in advance.

Hello again sorry for the delay, I travel allot for work. But I just got home desperately need to go to sleep but I was reading through some of the posts on the plane today and wanted to check out the parts 11 & 12 that AKATV had mentioned, But what i ended up finding was what i hope is my issue, so i found one of the little dowels that had busted off from this drum shifter, the rest are intact and the one "Dowel Pin #3"  is all there and fine but ya, I just really wanted to post this before my body shuts off, I was able to fish out the sheared  off piece, I can post more photos and whatever else in like 8hrs, But maybe y'all fine gentlemen have some experience with this situation, the attached image is from page 9-3 in the Service Manual just FYI.

    Thanks for the help fellas

OK, you have our attention now, WHERE ARE THE PICTURES 🙂

I was afraid someone would ask for pictures. I do this forum on my laptop and all the pics are on the phone. I dont know how to work this site on my phone but let me try.

  7. Myself, my wife, my youngest daughter, son in law and 5 1/2 year old grandson just returned from a full eight day trip to Silverton Colorado. I rented a cabin in an RV park where we could ride to the area from the front door. We hiked, crashed , said wow a million times, and saw things indescribable. Now my son in law and grandson are hooked on God's creation like I am. I call that mission accomplished.

We all do things like that. we're just getting older, have a great day..Derf

Yes, I blame it on a lazy brain. LOL I did have a friend here and we were talking so that probably distracted me but it's my fault.

  9. I put a new piston in my YZ 250 yesterday. As I was putting the plastics back on I saw a circlip on the table. Don't tell me I didn't put the second circlip in the piston!!!! After looking around for too many circlips and searching my memory I determined I just forgot. Without throwing tools and saying bad words I just told myself I'm glad to have caught the mistake. Two hours later it runs fine. Whew, I'm glad that's over.

Thanks. As I was draining it, it had occurred to me to loosen the gas cap.  I didn't see a whole lot of change in the flow.  I don't know on the Ethanol.  Our gas is imported from the US, but I don't know if we get the ethanol additive.  My fuel hose is routed in the grooves provided by the manufacturer.  I don't think it rises  before the carb.  I know it is not a steep slope.  Years ago I was chasing a fuel problem and put an inline filter in that hose which was a mistake.  The engine wouldn't run so I took it out. Thanks for the tip on the petcock screws. I'll definitely use some anti-seize!  Thanks again and I hope to be able to reassemble the whole thing tmro and try it out!!  (Living down here for nearly 20 years, I have had to learn perseverance along with creativity to adapt.)

We are here to help you. Thank you for expressing appreciation . ps. it is a good idea to let it drain with the fuel cap on for a minute or two. This procedure will determine if the vent is working properly.

Yes, but if it was just a little bit of clog it might have been enough to cause this problem.   It might be a couple of days before I am able to get everything back together but will let you know the result and thanks again for your generous help!

Did you have the fuel cap on when testing fuel flow? sometimes the vent in the cap will restrict enough to cause problems. Also, do you have ethanol? We do. All fuels are viscous enough to have a "dragging" effect on fuel flow. Ethanol drags more than 100% gasoline. I have witnessed fuel flow coming to a stop if a long fuel hose gets within about 1/2 inch of the fuel level in the tank. In other words you may have to reroute your hose if it rises before it drops again to the nipple on the carb. Hope this helps. We admire your perseverance in this matter. ps. clean the threads on the petcock screws and lube them with grease or anti seize.

I'm sure you guys are getting tired of hearing from me but I highly value your advise nevertheless...

This morning I took the ATV for a ride to my "cabin" about 15 minutes away.  I had the fuel valve to ON.  All ran smoothly for about half the distance when I started getting an occasional backfire and then the engine started missing.  I stopped, turn it off, waited a few minutes and it started right up.  It ran another distance with a repeat of the same thing.  I reached my place and turned it off and checked the fan - not running.  After about a 1/2 hour or so, I made the return trip. Got partway back - same thing - several times.  On the last startup everything ran very smoothly for the much longer distance home.  When I reached, I found the fan was running now.  I concluded at the time that it was a fan/cooling related issue.  However, after turning it off for around 5 minutes, I went to start it and it cranked okay but would not fire.  This is the first time for that since my original episode.  Taking the advice of Mister Clean and Jeepwm69, I sprayed starter fluid into the intake and it started right up.

It seems like the carb and fuel tank and lines might need a cleaning.  Any thoughts?

I doubt it is a carburetor problem because it runs good for a few minutes which indicates a clean carb. It is most likely a fuel flow problem. It almost keeps up with demand but not quite enough. A quick method to check fuel is to disconnect the hose from the carburetor and let it drain into a container. Allow it to drain for about one minute. You may notice it drain good at first and then slow down to a dribble.I am not sure if this machine has a fuel pump. The fuel should flow thru the pump if the end of the the hose is well below the fuel level in the tank. If that is the problem then you will have to remove the petcock and clean or replace it at a minimum. If you can break the filter off the petcock somehow and recover fuel flow you can add an external fuel filter in line as a substitute. I would suggest cleaning the carburetor at the same time for surety.

Thanks very much.  I got it now.  When I get a chance I am going to pull the gas tank and try to clean it.  I remember a few years ago I tried to remove the petcock but the mounting screws would just spin and never did get it out.  Any suggestions on how to remove this without damaging the tank?

I don't know of any procedure to remove the screws in a plastic tank. I gave you a diagnostic procedure early in this thread.. You may have missed it somehow. Read it please. It should help so you don't have to guess what the problem is.

  14. I installed the Ram mounts yesterday and they work great! I discovered they clamp on the seat of my tractor too! Thanks every one for suggestions. ps. I started getting weird e mails that were almost scams or maybe they were. I e mailed "Fish Brain" (the seller of the Ram mounts) and asked them if they sold my e mail address because this started after ordering from them. They promptly sent a link to their "agreement" section and there it was! Yes, they sold it. They installed trackers etc. so beware of "Fish Brain"!!!!!

  15. If it "didn't hit" with starting fluid then it's not a fueling issue. Probably spark then. This happened to two of my trx 420's at the same time. I found out that a rat chewed the same wires on both......9 wires on one and 11 wires on the other one. A friend came over and it took a few hours to  solder and heat shrink the wires.

  16. I am finishing up an overhaul on both axles on my 16 foot flat bed trailer. I am replacing the bushings and bolts on the springs and equalizers. My thinking is to "Not" grease the bushings because there are no seals. If it were a sealed unit then I would absolutely grease them. What your advice?
