  1. I want to install cup holders on both of my TRX 420's. I've seen some in boats and other atv's but didn't pay attention to their mountings. Who has specific information about this subject? I would like to have the holders to accommodate an insulator for my canned drinks and perhaps an adaptor provided to fit an insulated water bottle. Thanks in advance.

Talked to a guy at the auto parts store today while I was waiting in line. He said that wiring damage could cause a host of issues with the Hondamatic. Just looked into a new main harness ~$350. Just have to finish pulling the rest of the body off to see how much ate. Need new filters, oil, gear lube and coolant so far.

Mice chewed up the same wires on two of my TRX 420's a few years ago. Just buy some wire, heat shrink, a small soldering iron and that thin wire solder. Just relax, have a friend there with you to hold things and have at it!!

Just a little milk and no sugar thanks.

Anyway it appears to be sorted this time.  The drill do the trick.  I polished it again after drilling incase there was a burr left. Test it in the bike with a full tank a number of times and it perfect.

    Thanks everyone.

Great news! It's a good feeling when perseverance wins isn't it.

    Hi Misterclean

Do you mean poilish the brass seat down where the needle valve sits?  I have copper grease would that Do the job?

Yes,  polish the brass. Look down in the seat with a  right light and magnifying glass and look for something wrong. O have seen the taper wear out on the seat. My fix for that was to drill the hole out with the next size drill bit which narrowed the seat area allowing for greater psi on the valve.

1976 is not the first year  ----   I see a 1970 model ATC90 , that  is the oldest I seen so far , this lime green one is supposed to be a 1971 ---  pre-1976 on Partzilla  they are  list as models with no years

I agree, I'm not sure when they first came out but I remember seeing the 90 in 1972 or 1973?

I've owned so may different Hondas over the years.  From the QA50 to the Goldwing.  All the inline fours.  A few that really gave me the most joy were the CB350Four, CB360 because of the extra gear and the FT500 Ascot.  Love thumpers in general but the Ascot was such a fun little thing to flog about town.  Always wanted a pristine VT500 Ascot.   Funny that the bike I had the longest and put 60,000 + miles on was the 89 Pacific Coast.   Funny relationship with that bike.  Ultra comfortable and reliable as granite but it just didn't spark the emotions that some others did.  Kind of like a Buick.

I had a Suzuki GN 400 thumper. It was a simple and comfortable cruiser. Should have hung on to that one.

there ya go....amazing machines...and yes, campground, small tourist town cruising...that' where i enjoy mine the most...but a few more CCs and a 12volt system would sure be nice... I just don't want to modify my current bike with the chinese Lifan engine upgrades...if mine was a rough old barn bike..yeah...but it's in really great original shape... I'll enjoy it for a couple more years and sell it for the premium $ they are bringing... guy asked me about mine last year and I casually said I'd probably sell it for about $1800...he said he was on the way... I had to stop him and clarify that I "would"  if I decided to ....not that I was offering it to him...but man he didn't blink at that price for one with a clean title.

By the looks of your 90 it would bring more than 1800. It's all original correct?

I hated those bikes when young because they were not cool........love them now!!!!! If money were not a problem I'd probably own 6 of the new 125's

Beautiful day here yesterday.   Loaded up the dog and spent a few hours out exploring the flooding.  River up about 10 feet and starting to flood the lower farmlands.  Soil in the floodplain drains well so 24 hour after the rains I was arrowhead hunting without getting muddy.  Wife and dog got bored watching me pick up chips so that didn't last long.  May go over alone and spend a few hours alone looking.  Thousands of years of Native American history here.  One reason I'm have such strong beliefs about being a good steward of the land.

    Where do you live?

  10. I took off my oversized tires/wheels on my 2014 trx 420 and put the stock wheels and tires back on. Several years ago I installed new  "pull offs" from my local Honda dealer from a 500 foreman. They are an inch taller. Originally I liked it because they were a little smoother and it went much faster........almost like another half gear above 5th. Since I own another identical machine and ride it as much as the other I finally admitted the smaller wheels are best. The wheeler has much more power in every gear and frankly makes the riding almost effortless. Honda did a good job matching the power to gear ratios on this machine........however the gap between 4th and 5th is a big one.......a little too big.

  11. My two daughters, two sons in law, grandson, granddaughter and wife like to ride so I own two four wheelers and four dirt bikes so everyone can ride something. As a result my enjoyment for my YZ 250 has been awakened. As the title suggests, my first love is dirt bikes.........since 1972  7th grade. 1972 SL 70......a real motorcycle! Since then I've owned perhaps 25 to 30 bikes......mostly off road bikes,a few street bikes, a few dual sports and an old ATC 90. I was prejudice against wheelers because they were slow and that was important to me for many decades. Then a friend sold me 1994 Yamaha Timber wolf 250 around 2005ish?  It needed one of everything.....oversized piston, carb assy, , all brake drums, shoes, cams and cables etc etc. ...turned out to be a great wheeler and opened up my mind to wheelers. My daughters liked it so we kept it. Had a friend give me a mid 80's 200 Yamaha wheeler, the one before suspension! Then four TRX 420's after that. My youngest son in really likes the CRF 230F I bought a few weeks ago so I'm riding my YZ much more. I forgot how much fun a high performance two stroke can be. It does things effortlessly that the wheelers struggle to do (Except mud bogging! LOL) Any one else remember their first love?

Well you need to put big tires on them, pop wheelies, and use them as boats like the rest of us!  Then you could have some problems!

I put over sized tires and wheels from a 500 Foreman on the 2014 for about two years. I took them off just a few weeks ago because the power is much better but a little less plush ride. I have two sons in laws and another young in law's  brother that rode them at full throttle doing drag races, donuts for a few months before I had to ask them to tone it down a little. I drag race it on occasion and cut donuts for my grandson but don't make it a habit.

I’ve had to replace the crank in every 420 I’ve been into.

4th gear on the early models

    Crappy 300 esqe rear ends

    Crappy fuel pumps

    Lots of sensors

The newer ones might have some improvements but they’re on a Foreman frame so why not just get the Foreman at that point?

I've owned four 2008, 2009, 2014, 2017. Never had one problem. I just have the 14 and 18 today. Replaced the tie rod end on the 14 about a year ago. ps....mine were all 2wd manual shift LOL

I would keep the foreman.  That’s just me.

I have rebuilt several 420s. They are fun machines to ride but they have crappy rear ends, crappy transmissions, and will not hold up anywhere near as well as a 450

That's true but they fixed the 4th gear problem somewhere around 2009? Then in 2014 it went to a much stronger base......same as the 500 Foreman
