  1. I think it torques to 12 ft lbs, that does seem high and I may have gotten the torque wrong.
  2. Well I got the new bolt in and installed it, everything was looking good but when torqueing it at less than 12 ft lbs it broke. This time I wasn't as lucky as last time, it broke off just barely down in the shift drum. I started drilling it out and bit has veered off a little to one side and has turned into a mess. I don't know if I can got my pilot hole back in the middle or not. I think this baby may end up in the parts department. I don't have a parts department so maybe this will be a good start. I think I'll go give it another try, wish me luck.
  3. Thanks Jeep, I've got so many to get ready for planting and hunting season I thought I might give it a try. I'm still waiting on parts for the 2004 repairs.
  4. Does anybody use Valvoline ATV 10w40 oil in their 450's ?
  5. Shadetree, I went to Lowes and they do carry metric bolts, nuts and screws but they only had the 8.8 grade and not the 10.9 grade, they were out, so I was afraid the get the weaker bolt, still may be better than the Japanese made but I didn't want to take a chance after going this far, got one coming from Honda first part of next week. Thanks for the heads up I'll be using them for other things, I never thought to look at Lowes.
  6. You would think it took quite a bit of pressure from something to pop the head off like it did. I didn't get a chance to go and try to find a bolt this afternoon maybe tomorrow.
  7. Fishfiles, it never acted up with me but I didn't have it long before this happened. The bolt got beat up with the vice-grips I used to extract it. Wilson it came out no trouble. There was enough bolt sticking out that I could get the Pliers on it and it came on out, it did have thread locker on it , it was tight all the way out. My problem now is getting one here in a few days, nobody has it in stock so will be next week before I can get one.
  8. I am a welder and I have welding machines but I think I will try everything before the welding begins. Thanks for all the info, very informative. If the engine was out and on a table it might be different. Thanks for all the input we will see what I got then figure out the direction to go, Thanks.
  9. I think I should remove the centrifugal clutch and clutch pack before I start removing the shifting parts from the end of the shift drum. Do y'all agree?
  10. I've got to go out of town today but will give it a shot tomorrow, Thanks guys.
  11. Here is where the bolt is supposed to be, right under the long spring, I think.
  12. If that's it I will never get all that mess out the way to replace it and get it put back together.
  13. This drawing retro sent me shows the broken bolt, I'm pretty sure , I will check closer to be sure. It's the bolt at the bottom of the drawing, the only bolt in that section, labeled 16 N*m
  14. Well the cover is off and here is what I found, Naturally the broken bolt is my biggest concern, I need to find a good drawing or picture of the area. Any help or advice will be appreciated.
  15. If time permits I'll pull the cover today, all bolts are loose just haven't had time to go do it.
  16. My god don't say that. I'm scared to death just trying to get the front cover off. I'd probably use it for parts before I did that, lol.
  17. Retro and Melatv spoiled me bad, spoon feeding me on the 2001 we did.
  18. Thanks for the info, maybe some others will chime in with there experience.
  19. Yes that's all off just checking if anything else is going to get me. Don't know what to expect when cover starts coming off. Anything going to fall off or what comes off with it is supposed to come off with it. I saw a adjustment screw on the cover what about that?
  20. It's loose from the engine and you told me it should stay out of the way for the cover to come off.
