I've been looking at the radar map, looks like you've had a descent line of rain move through today ? with another line possibly moving in.
  2. i wish ours was like that diff lock, it would be real handy instead of the peddle, yours also might be manual disengaged when you use the brakes also. that's how some of the bigger JD models are, but those are all hydrualic powered diff locks.... i couldn't say about the 4wd models. easy way to check those couplers ... is grab the input shaft to the hydraulic pump, and see it there is any separate movement between shaft and aluminum coupler clamp... the bushing are usually good for about 1500 hours, but while you have the rad out (room to work) I'd take advantage...
  3. welcome to the forums Chris. @AKATV is the gent your looking for.
  4. also might be a good time to check those hydrualic pump coupler bushings.... yours might be a direct bolt up, when you get time post me some pics.

good deal! kind of looks like that storm front might be expanding some ?
  6. i do notice something i meant to ask about..... that lever.... just below the left hand side of the seat (pic) my thinking is thats the differential lock on your tractor ? becuase on the 30 series .... there's a peddle ... there, and it releases the diff lock... if there's no tension on the diff, or you don't keep your foot on it... does yours release automatically ? or manually ?

wow... 1976 ..... i see some storms ... might be moving in y'all direction from North / South Dakota, looks there headed due east from the map..... good ways off... but maybe a chance of them back building later on.....
  8. you might also check the water pump while you have the rad out of the way (smooth rotation, no bearing wobble)
  9. if your not going to use it much after this .... sure..... it sure wouldnt hurt to have a good flushing out, and fins straightened.... just make sure they know one edge is a hydro oil cooler, and doesn't need a internal flush, just a surface cleaning.. I was a.ways picky about farm equipment .... you might even say OCD ... if any of ours went down that was part of the pay check out of the window...
  10. good deal.... i figured that's was why you were Mia. been there many times... your all ready to go... fire it up, and then it leaks those dang hydro filter o-ring are a pain in arse! lol! glad to hear much improvement.... mid range on the temp gauge will not hurt... and these engine were known for running warm...with such a small radiator... later on you might check the thermostat, along with drive belt tension. did you hit the front axle pivot bushing fittings ? i think ? right off the top of my head... that tractor has 17 grease fittings.... possibly more... I'll have to check.
  11. i would think diesel would be fine.... but i would do a couple oil changes afterwards.

okay.....lol! i didn't abandon her, she's living in my home, when no one else would help her... > alpha gal thread < and my honest opinion is this is not the right place (open forums) for abusive talk... positive yes.... so i will not be a part of it.
  13. heard back from @machinecrook yesterday... he's still doing fine, just super busy. said he might be signing more often as things lighten up.

on a good note this storm system moving in the from gulf might just bring some much needed precipitation the country needs right now... might as well look at it from an optimistic veiw point.
  19. thanks fellahs, very helpful. @TBRider the position of the mirrors on yours is what i had in mind.
  20. thanks fellahs it would ether be one like tbrider has, or wheeler has.... i don't ride with With others any longer.... we can't ride like we used to... (bunch of us going out on farm land) well i could have riding gatherings ... plenty of land... but most of my old riding buddies have moved away from doing that... and with newer people moving in..... things have changed around here... this would be a mod type deal... for winter riding, and hauling firewood (if i have to) on short notice.
  21. very helpful thank you! nope... you can do that.. want hurt a thang but maybe shift the cutter slightly over to one side, but it's better then have it slam back and forth....that's exactly how i have my pops disk mower set up... all the way far as i could get to the right side... three reasons to do this is... the mower misses the right tire tracks...(mashed down wet grass) and you cover slightly more ground for a cleaner cut.. and money people wish for there hay fields to look like they've been mowed... plus you want to cover as much ground as you can dealing with the amount of fuel use compared to the work your doing... it's a fine line nowa days, but in your case...with a cutter... no abuse to the rock shaft, and no slamming back and forth... which in turn might also help with any back pain you have (if any) perfect! no sir you won't be able to drain every single drop... but if there are no metallic filings in the oil you drained out run with it (and those would come from the brakes being worn out) which from your details they work fine, and, you don't use them much (which i agree with) you can do the same with engine braking, (or dragging the cutter on the ground how ever.). if it get to that point toss the pto clutch out of gear... and drop the cutter on the ground. my guess would be it's a category 1 with just Normal use... over time the point on the drop arms where they contact sway blocks will ware Away as well.... hitch all that stuff takes abuse over time. but looks as tho that will work just fine... is there any side to side movement at all ?
  22. @TBRider @Wheeler @Majorpayne I've been looking at those pics again.... and i believe for mine (if / when) i purchase one.... i might just mount those mirrors ....further out on the fairing ... but I'm curios as to the vibration .... being mounted that far out, my thinking would be out close to the width of the bike (fender flair to fender flair) for a better side veiw... and i take it.... being this is mounted with a all metal hardware... there is a slight amount of vibration depending on speed, type of tire and of corse the engine..... thoughts ? being a truck driver, mirror vibration can make driving very dangerous! also how far will these mirrors adjust in ether direction ? just ball park it... lol
