RancherNH 0 Posted March 18, 2020 Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. When all this craziness passes it will be riding season. I am looking to replace my STI diamond backs with a set of new rubber for my 2013 Rancher 420AT? I've been looking at the Carlisle AT489C the Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 and The AMS Slingshot XT. All seem pretty good. I really like my STI diamond backs but the rubber dry rotted and cracked only after one season and now they are deteriorating around the beed and no longer hold air. Maybe they are made better now but my diamond backs are only a few years old and have failed. I am looking to stay with 25 inches and I ride in hard packed cross county trails in New Hampshire and I also use my ATV to plow my driveway so snow traction is on the top of my list. Thank you in advance. Don
shadetree 5,791 Posted March 18, 2020 i run itp mudlite AT's, they are 6-ply, do well in snow. please make a post in the new member section, a tad about yourself, ty !.
toodeep 1,746 Posted March 18, 2020 Slingshots do good and I think would have the best traction of those posted. I haven't been around them long enough to report on how they wear though.

sublime68charger 172 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) Any thoughts to putting tubes in your diamondback tires? how much tread due they have left? if had the knowledge about the tires you asked I'd input my $.02 worth but the only ones you mentioned are the big horns which are a great all around tire from what I have read. but the others may be better. and welcome to the site Edited March 18, 2020 by sublime68charger
jeffo21 125 Posted March 19, 2020 I have bighorn 2.0's on my 300 fourtrax and I really like them.
RancherNH 0 Posted March 19, 2020 Thanks for the feedback folks. Seems I can't go wrong with any of them. So now I need to research a bit further regarding weight, lug depth, and price of course. Have you guys seen this video? Chaparral Motorsports does a 25 inch tire shootout with 21 different tires. The slingshot seems to be the best overall....interesting
toodeep 1,746 Posted March 19, 2020 The Kenda Bearclaw is another tire to consider and they make it in an XL version now. I run the originals and the HTR 8 ply radial, good all around tire.
toodeep 1,746 Posted March 19, 2020 A little tire porn. The 489 and bighorns was the wrong sizes so I left them out. XL vs AT, some bearclaws (original and the HTR), mudlite and a mud bug just because.
Goober 1,555 Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) My favorite is the ITP Mud Lite AT. Great all around tire although the space between treads is a bit subject to cactus. Made in USA. Second favorite it Carlisle 489AT; tire set i have here on my TRX300 is several years old—i got them used and they’ll still great. I do not know if they’re made in US. made in US is very important to me Edited March 20, 2020 by Goober
