  1. I did just stumble on this. What's the experts say for the condition of it? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-TRX-450-S-Foreman-Engine-Cylinder-Head-Culas-Assembly/224260806448?hash=item3436fc5730:g:MLkAAOSwdytfxySA EDIT: Nm. for 60$ more I just ordered a brand new head.
  2. And we are confident a 98-01 450ES Head will fit on a 04? I may just bite the bullet on a new one from ebay..
  3. Boys, what’s the thoughts on the cylinder head gasket (metal one) to re-using it? I know the jug gasket is paper so that’s a replacement for sure. Im thinking going OEM oversized piston with rings. So it won’t come with gaskets and I’ll have to order it vs. aftermarket
  4. Finally got back at it tonight again. Pulled the clutches, chain and camshaft. Can someone explain to me how is this tensioner supposed to be pulled back in? It says to turn it clockwise but if I put a screw driver in there to clip the notches it’s not easy it keeps slipping.
  5. Ok so you apply the RTV right on the o ring. Makes sense. But are you referring to as the armature shaft seal? Is it that black ring that’s evident in my photos?
  6. Good info. So what part of that motor do you suggest gets RTVed? The armature housing only? Or both, armature housing to gear housing and then gear housing to the front crank case cover?
  7. The front case once opened was very clean. I ran my finger through the bottom of it it to see if I could pick up sediment and there wasn’t anything. Just some oil. When this goes back together I’m going to run some Castrol oil (no load on engine) and flush it a couple of times before I fill it with GN4 Honda oil to actually run as a safe measure.. .
  8. Wait. So vertical movement of the wrist pin inside the rod bore? Or vertical play of the actual rod? Because neither of those I have. Also the rod has not twisting play at all.
  9. Tried to get a good look, the bore is not all shiny. I think I can see some cross hatching in there. Also, I tried twisting and pulling the rod - no play. It’s solid.
  10. I got brand new OEM seals. I can lap it or get it done. As long as the seats and guides are good. give it a thought. I’m going to check mom and pops ATV repair shops Monday for used head. I’d trust buying used more from you than Booby Joe on eBay.
  11. Is that 450 head ready to be shipped to me @Fishfiles? For a price of course?!
  12. You know of a video that shows a good rod? Because I honestly do not think I will find a USED Rod with less play than that. And I’m at a point where I just don’t know if I can swallow the price of a new rod. The play I show is nothing compared to his when I tried it. His wrist pin also you could feel and see the gallow. In my old wrist pin it is not seen or felt. Using my digital caliper when I measure my old wrist pin to the new they are on par for measurements off by .001” if that. The valve cover was still on it so couldn’t see the guides, seats etc.
  13. Looked at it. His rod with a brand new OEM Honda wrist pin has way more play than mine. He dropped the entire engine price down to $100. Please look at this video, this my my rod with a brand new OEM Honda Wrist Pin I picked up today to test the play and see. Is this excessive? The service limit in the manual I measured is below it. Wrist Pin is also within tolerance as its new. (If video doesn’t show may take a few minute for YouTube to render it)
  14. $200 is the entire engine with top end and all. Going to look at it now. many pointers to check? The top end is pulled off it.
  15. So I found a motor out of a 400, 98 - foot shift . Guy swapped it for a 450. he actually had the top end off it as someone was supposed to buy and never showed. So I could check the piston rod. Wants $200 CDN for the whole thing. I guess if the piston rod is good on this I could use the crank out of this thing?
  16. so based on that part 13000-HM7-000 actually fits from 99-04 Foreman 450s for crankshaft. While partzilla was originally telling me only 02-04 based on the 13000 HN0 670 Is there any way of knowing of a engine was sunk by looking at it from the exterior? Without hearing it running. Sounds like it’s a total gambel to buy a engine to hope parts are good inside of it?
  17. Lol yah.. I told him straight up.. can’t trust you been ripped off already. I said the way the engine sits now and that video without seeing it first hand $150. So about $100 USD. I’d take the gamble on it.
  18. Strange. Maybe YouTube was still rendering it.
  19. Yah.. I wouldn't drop that engine in. I would open it up and take the pieces I need out of it and use mine. Just looking at the photos of it, kinda worries me. Here is the sales AD with some photos. I think $200 is probably all its worth without really knowing.. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-atv/moncton/honda-450es-engine/1549326172
  20. Interesting. Rally? So any 450ES head fits? I don't think mr.cank is the way to go considering I am in Canada. He even advised against it now with COVID and Shipping its a total nightmare. He's had issues with Canadian recently and shipping stuff getting lost, taking forever to show etc. Here is a video of that used engine. Sounds bad, no?
  21. See one post ahead from this morning with reply about the engine.
  22. I did, it’s from a 2001 450ES with 5.6k miles on it. The head isn’t interchangeable with a 2004 based on partzilla. The crank is. He sent me a video.. the thing sounds horrendous. Most likely everything shot inside of it. And he wants almost $600 for it.
  23. Intake valve is beat. Cranksahft is discontinued from Honda.. mr crankshaft said he’s had issues with Canadian shipments.. also none around here. I called a ATV salvage yard in Canada and they don’t have a head or crankshaft. A used cylinder head how do I know I won’t have this seat issue? Again, a used head there is some on eBay but it’s risky buying without seeing it first and none around me here. A new one is $300+. Same applies to the crank buying one through eBay no idea what I’m getting. Not sure what to do.. this ATV may be a lost cause.
  24. Well here is an update for you all. Intake valve seat can be pulled out by hand. Looks like I’ll need a new head...
  25. More good news? Made my day! I guess maybe im wasting my time replacing that chain then.. Will be fun getting those old gaskets off the cover. Also, gotta remove the clutch adjusting bolt mine is seized in there. Does it just punch out towards the inside of the cover or to the outside? Manual is quite vague on it.
