  1. Yup. So how do you actually test this oil sensor. It says blue wire to ground at no way am I going to get this thing at 25C in Canada.. I pulled the switch it’s inside the house. Can it be tested just inside?
  2. Took it for a ride again, to get closer to that 2hr break in. Ran fine. I checked the oil cooler lines and their warm during the ride so I assume it’s circuiting oil. The cylinder head was very hot, couldn’t touch it. Got home, 10min trailer drive. Won’t fire. Pushed it off the trailer to change the oil and filter.
  3. Turn over is the same. The plug is damp/smells a bit of fuel (or did before this overhaul). Granted, I didn't check the plug state condition last night. The manual calls for 9.5k to 10.5k ohms at 25C, I checked the manual. This is what has me baffled. I turn the key the OIL LIGHT comes on for a moment and goes OFF. If I run the bike, the fan comes eventually based on whatever condition the FCU or Oil Temp sensor tell it. If there is a lack of oil cooling due to the oil cooler being clogged from mud, would the fan not turn on sooner then as the oil would get hotter quicker due to lack of air flow through the fins? Which results in the oil not being able to get cooled down properly and being hotter more often than usual?
  4. Thanks. Im hoping your right on this as the conditions tonight were COLD, I mean like 4degree Fahrenheit (-16C Celsius). I’m hard pressed to see how the engine was able to overheat, I only lasted out there for just over an hour due to the cold and called it quits.
  5. I’ll give the cooler a cleaning tomorrow see how easily it’s accessible with everything in place now. I’ll also try and use my compressor to blow from the rear to the front of it to dislodge any stuck debris.
  6. Can I manually over ride that temp switch and get the fan to run when I choose to on a switch for the time being with the fan running while bike is running this will keep it cool. No?
  7. So the oil temp sensor can prevent starting?
  8. So how do these two things prevent the bike from starting? I’m confused.
  9. I’ve tested the spark plug before under these conditions and there is always spark. Plug is neither wet or dry previously. Im honestly tapped out. Going to check the cooler, I think it may be covered with dry mud from recollection and I’ll spray it off. At that point this machine is going. No more no sense. Just reading the replies, once again the possibilities are endless here.
  10. I’ll have to measure the oil temp sensor resistance. No idea if the oil cooler is clogged? What makes you think this now and how do I check?
  11. Choke out as in the choke is pulled out. Choke in as in pushed in. The fan came one once or twice during my ride, like I said it was cold out. But it was not running the moment right before I loaded it on the trailer. Yes, oil light comes on and goes off.
  12. See I’m scared and fearful.. because this entire thread started on “no start while hot” issue which evolved. I wasn’t idling at all, the bike was driven pretty much the entire 1:20hr Im willing to bet it will start again if I went out now, which was the same scenario I posted like 2 months ago 😞
  13. Lol! I meant pre the work I did of course. I guess maybe ATVs are more valued in the USA? But down here, my machine the way I purchased it just over a year or so ago would have been like I said about a $1,000. The way it sits now, with the engine work, suspension fixes, plastic cleaning, back seat, seat repair, heated grips and all other random odds and ends. I'd say its probably worth $3000-$3500 in todays market.
  14. Ya I don’t know about your guys areas but around here all power sports seemed to have sky rocketed in price for the last year. There is people asking $1000 for machines that are broken apart like a parts fiche because they attempted to repair them and gave up. In all reality my machine pre covid is probably worth about $1000 or so. The guy originally wanted $2400 for it but I beat him down to $1800.
  15. Well that is exactly my train of thought. Earlier in this thread I wasn’t sure what to do, pretty demotivated. After browsing the local classifieds and seeing what people are asking for these machines $$$ (all due to COVID) I figured I may be better investing more $ into it than selling and buying something else. At least I know the machine and what had been done to date at that point versus buying something else and maybe starting from scratch. I know it’s a Honda and it’s reliable, it ain’t no CAN-AM IRS machine. But it’s going to do me for now and I hope it stays running lol. I do have to say thanks to all on this thread that chimed in and helped. If it wasn’t for the help and input from the members not sure I would have ventured down this path. Everyone’s help is greatly appreciated! I won’t be going anywhere’s, hope to post up in the Custom Thread I started and still clean up a few things I intended to do. I do have a ball joint on hand lol I need to replace too! But I’ll be around reading threads, helping and most likely getting help! Good bunch of folks here, reminds me of the Jeep forums!
  16. Well, did some reading and came up that the sleeve thing being normal as @retro said so I continued. Seated it back flush in the housing and off I went. Cleaned it all out with soap & water, brake cleaner as well and then oiled it. Assembly was not bad, had a fun time getting the piston and rings to get nicely in there to ensure it’s all square. Setting all gaskets on and torques as per service manual. Adjusted valves to spec, filled it with oil. Spent the good part of the day putting it all back, well last night was the movement of truth. Fired up! And it fired up good. No strange noises or anything. Smoking was minimal. I let it idle for a minute or two, had to mess a bit with the choke at first but then it ran solidly. Took it for a spin around the block, increasing throttle up and down 0-50%, shifting good and all felt good. The machine sound is what really impressed me as there was no noises from the valve train. The bike sounds like a whole different machine. No ticks or bangs. Sounds really healthy! Turned it off, I hit the START button MAYBE half way and it fired right up, like instantly. Im so stoked. I may have put 2miles on it thus far just around the block (street driving). I’ll need to trailer it to stretch its legs. Question is, now what? Do I run it for a couple of hours and drain, replace oil and filter? Can I do it now?
  17. No, not sure why? Did I miss a message or something?
  18. So here is a question. Started cleaning the cylinder in hot water.. and the sleeve slid out of the cylinder housing. Is this normal?
  19. Update: Cylinder going to be ready today. Going to be a exciting weekend!
  20. Its going to be Rotella. as @_Wilson_™ said, I'd rather do more frequent oil changes then less frequenty. And with the price of Rotella its a no brainer.
