  1. It’s coming apart! Both clutches are off, nothing to report. Almost at the timing chain. I do have right now one washer that fell on the floor, not sure where it goes, could be reverse lever or that other linkage mechanism? Regardless, that will be a question I’ll have to answer after swapping the chains out!
  2. I brought it down with me over Christmas and had a machining shop do the work of drilling out the broken bolt and tapping it. Did a good job. Just took forever. Gasket was still on it when I opened the mail 😅 so that’s the next job. All I bought from Gh was the chain. I saw your comments somewhere recommending them.
  3. Spent an hour or so carefully scrapping gasket off the cylinder with a knife. Taking my time.
  4. Got some goodies today, will be working on getting things back together on the bottom end this weekend! Feels good to be moving closer with assembly!
  5. Fish, I wanted to do away with the brakes in the back because they are useless, and maybe one day do a snorkel and a paddle, one day. It never even crossed my mind as a snow application, but now.......
  6. I'm in the process of doing a rear brake delete. I've read it helps the rear if you throw another carrier bearing in the brake panel. I've shaved down the panel, and I'd like to order two sealed bearings. the part number off partzilla is BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6007) 91052-HB3-771 But I dont think that one is sealed. On ebay there are kits for a bearing and two seals, but what I want to order is just two sealed bearings. Anyone have a lead for me?
  7. Got the ball joint out and compared with the set i bought for the 450s. The 300 ball joints are indeed smaller. Thanks @toodeep and thanks @jeepwm69. NB: Its easier to get them out when you understand which way they go in. 🙄
  8. Thanks for taking the time to pull those out and take pics. Ill double check the ball joints that I have for the 450s and compare them with the old ones off the 300 and see what I got.
  9. Fairly certain I got the correct ones. If so, they won't be compatible? @shadetree says yes, @toodeep says no.......I guess I'll have to press an old one out to see.
  10. He said it locked up going forward with a loud clank, then put it in reverse with no noise. Im wondering if the rear is still unable to turn, or if he was able to go into reverse and move, or after the lockup and clank, the noise disappeared and he was able to move.
  11. Last year I bought a set of ball joints for my 1999 450s. They have been sitting on the shelf, I don't have the space to have two projects going at once. So I've been focused on the 300. My 300 also needs ball joints. As far as I can tell looking at partzilla, it looks as though the ball joints will also fit my 1995 300 4x4. Can one of the experts confirm this?
  12. Yes, focus on school. If you find yourself wanting a break from studying, assignments, and exams, you may find yourself wanting to jump into this project as a distraction. Do that by planning, and organizing. Sort/clean your shop, catalog and label parts. It will help with assembly. Don't go any deeper until you are ready to devote some time to it. School and exams are a priority. (I'm a teacher, gotta get the word out). Good luck on your exams, we're rooting for ya!
  13. WOW, I tried a repair job this past fall, and the screen looks exactly the way it did before. So clearly I don't know what I'm doing. Do you live close to LedFTed? or did he mail it in?
  14. The bolts were so badly rusted they went down a size to 11mm.
  15. Yesterday I cleaned the carb up abit. Nothing exciting in there, just remnants of rust from the tank. When spring weather comes I’m going to treat the tank with vinegar then coat it with abit of 2stroke oil , install a filter on the fuel line and run it. Today I broke down the front knuckles and brake backing plate. I want to do the disc conversion, so I’m just doing a bit to move ahead with that. I’m going to have to get new ball joints for the knuckles and new bearings too. I’ll have to do that work before I paint them.
  16. I can break them down with my fingernails , brittle, but also hard.
  17. Don’t have the chain, dove in anyway. Found some bits that look scary. What do you guys think? the screen was super clean, the pieces of metal are worrisome, found underneath the screen. What about the scratches on the right clutch?
