The regulator of the 88-92 has a different part number than 93-up , when I look at the 1st and 2nd gen wiring prints , I don't see any differences on the regulator or ignition switch wiring ------ I got the CRS lately and can't remember if the regulators will interchange or not between the 1st and 2nd gen and I been down that road before and want to say you need the correct gen --- I once had a problem with the regulator over charging and blowing the fuse , it was putting out 20volts when the engine was rev'ed , as long as you did not rev the engine it would sit there and idle here is a used OEM 1st gen regulator for a decent price , as I think when they where available they were like $250 https://www.ebay.com/itm/224705520018?epid=1111838379&hash=item34517e2192:g:dEkAAOSws9Bhm9za

By-Pass like Shade says is a good way to go ------- and you can take the by pass to the next level with a Summit fan controller , on my 95 300 I have two fans and the oil coolers relocated , this little Gizmo controls which temp the two fans kick on indepently , cost was $75 two years ago , made by David White out of Australia , sold by Summit Racing , and you don't have to cut into the existing harness ---- Retro makes a very nice fan controller from scratch and Goober is his apprentice , I have one on my 450 , there is a nice thread on it here on the site

The red wire fuse goes to the voltage regulator / rectifier and the ignition switch , being you installed a aftermarket regulator and the wiring does match up to boot , I'd say that is the start of your problem -------- hope you didn't damage the cdi

You going to get the same answer you say you already got , some will say ok and some won't --------- to ask the same question and expect a different result is ....... I have a few atvs and have LED bars and pods on all of them , some hooked to the high beam and low beam , it works using the stock switch and wires , just can't ran both at the same time , not cause it won't handle it , because the switch don't allow it , high or low , I don't use relays , some are on separate switches -------- if you are in and around water you need a good switch , cheap switches don't last long , they corride quick

Hi Graham , glowing red exhaust could be over fueling from running rich , like too big a jet , but since your fuel injected it is not a jet , makes me wonder if that 420 has some kind of tuner on it ?? ----- Or the exhaust is plugged / stopped up

Wow , talking about children dying at Christmas time brings up bad memories for me , my cousin was born on Christmas Day , when she was 8 years old on her birthday , Christmas morning , her Dad , my great uncle , my Grandmother's brother , had a heart attack and passed away , when his wife , my great aunt went into the room and found him dead , she had a heart attack and she died also , same day , same room , my cousin found them both , she went to live with our aunt who never had any children of her own and my aunt Linda and her husband Michael adopted Debbie , then the aunt got pregnant and had twins of her own , then another boy after that , my cousin Debbie committed suicide when she turned 18 years old on her birthday which was Christmas
