  1. have you checked the woodruff key on flywheel ?. all this dont add up too me. c.d.i. is new, kill switch checks good, spark plug coil ohm'ed out good ?, spark plug coil good clean ground ?. neutral light on when key is on ?. stator ohm'ed out good ?. pick up coil checked out good ?, did you try unscrewing spark plug cap, cut about 1/4 off wire, then screw back on ?.new spark plug ?, without spark plug boot on wire, cranked it over just wire to engine for spark ?.
  2. your moto almost looks like the cx500c's did with the v twin cylinders, they were called the true flying v back then on the cx500c. love the retro style it has, none of that stupid plastic crap, very nice !.
  3. is this ---> 30410-HC4-003 the part number that you ordered for your new c.d.i. ?. this is for a 1988 trx300fw from rocky mountain atv I just looked up.
  4. what is the numbers on the side of both c.d.i.'s ?, they should match, they are on the white connectors, 3 of them, something like HC4 or something like that ?, they must match !.
  5. the electrical system on these models is pretty simple. stator, reg/rec, spark plug coil, pulse generator ( pick up coil ), c.d.i. is pretty much all you need to get spark on the spark plug. if all parts are oem ?, then most times you wont get spark if the '' kill switch '' on the handle bars is making contact inside the switch ?. this shorts spark straight to ground. be sure to check all the connections inside the black plastic box right under the handle bars !. if any of these wires are connected wrong ?, then you lose spark.

  11. all you did here is complete the circuit, in other words, your doing the same thing as if the ground cable is still connected to battery.
  12. look to see if any extra wires are running from battery to ground that was added on ?.
  13. battery cant drain when ground is unhooked, without ground, no power will flow from battery.
  14. if its not a bad stator or reg/rec ?, then you have a bad cell in the battery.
  15. if by this ^^^, are you saying when riding atv, the battery goes down, and wont start the atv ?, if this is the case ?, then your stator or reg/rec is bad. one or both in this case can cause this.
  16. if you have any power on even when the key is off ?, then something is on somewhere ?, maybe ignition key is bad ?. there should not be any lights on the dash at all when key is off
  17. any add-on lights, switches ?, winch ?, nothing should drain the battery unless something is on ?.

  20. I doubt you will find a better place on the net to help you on your quest to fix your trx300 than here ?!..lol.
