Low voltage to fuel pump

Recommended Posts

Ok, when I tested the ohms with leads together it did show 0.00. With the red lead on the bl/rd ignition coil wire and the black lead on negative battery terminal, it shows 10.6V when trying to start

Do this now -- place black meter lead on neg. of battery -- turn key on and with Red meter lead test for voltage on the little gray dots on top the main 30 amp fuse and Ign. 10 amp fuse

The 30amp main fuse reads 12.9V on both dots. The 10amp ignition fuse also reads 12.9V on both dots.

That"s good  --- now remove the Bl/R wire off the Ign. coil and place the Red meter lead into that push on connector -- what do you read?

I'm in town at the moment but I'll check that when I get back.

Put the Bl/R wire back on the ign. coil it should drop back 10.6 Volt as it did before -- Did it ?

Are you meaning with the key just turned on or turning it over? With just the key on it stays at 12.8V

Leave the fuel pump unplugged -- test it again when turning over --- if it drops to 10.6 -- have to find why so

Yes, fuel pump unplugged and turning over it drops back to 10.5V

Okay move the kill switch to the right or left and do the same test again.

So when the kill switch is in the center and you start the bike the voltage on the coil drops to 10 volts

Leave the Kill switch in the center and unplug the Black connector on the PCM and have the red lead on the ign. coil and try starting (this is just trying to find why the voltage is dropping to 10 volts)

Did just that and reads 10.5V while turning over

Okay that tells us that the kill switch is the bad or the Bl/W wire going from the kill switch to the black connector on the PCM is grounding its self to metal some where.

Key off -- put your meter on the Ohms scale -- black test lead on neg. of battery and place your red test lead on the BL/R wire on the Black connector that you removed from the PCM -- what is the Ohn reading?

Did you mean black and white wire? If so, the ohms read 48.5. There isn't a bl/rd wire on that connector lol

Sorry about that --Yes Bl/W wire  -- so you will have to find the problem with the Kill switch or the wire its self

I am out of here for the night -- post what you find
