That's sure some cool stuff. FF you need to build a crows nest on top of your house. Then you can sit in warmth and watch your hummer run around outside. You can also claim you have an electric vehicle now too!

From the old man’s wardrobe. He said probably from a Snap On rep in the 70s. I doubt it’s ever been worn

Basic truck is around $550, with upgrades I'm putting in and have already put on in nearing 1k. Kind of stupid I guess, but have an older brother that bought one first and his health isn't that great. He's 14 yrs my senior so didn't have much of a relationship with him in younger years. He was a lot of miles away from me in my adult years and moved within 5 blocks from me about 4 years ago. Figure this is a great opportunity spend time with him. Looking forward to this summer. He also bought a Can Am 2up so we go riding with he and his bride. Am loving getting to know him. This along with riding is something he can do that isn't to physically taxing on him. It's worth the $$$$ in my book to spend time with him.

Was a pretty amazing competition. These little RC trucks like mine are really slow, mine has a top speed of about 17 mph in the high range of the speed setting. Object is to crawl and see what you can make it over and through. I'm kind of a wimp with mine, even though the radio and motor are totally water proof I won't do it, don't want to deal with bearing issues down the road. Will run it in snow when it's well below freezing, snow won't melt and stick to anything. Little hard on the fingers though, these pics were taken in front of the house was -26, hands lasted about 5 minutes at a pop. Amazing tra tion on the frozen snow and ice. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_Trophy

I live in North Cali at 2600ft in foothills. I've been on 3wheels since 1995 and still would be but, BearFire got it. So end of 2021 I purchased Rancher 420FE. I like to see and read about these machines . I'm curious about all sorts of modifications. My old 250SX had Supertrap header and rims offset wider than stock. I put a 10x7 21 on the front. So what I'm getting at is research into doing some of the mods on my Rancher. I loved the pop pop pop of the Supertrap on my 250SX and wonder why Honda made them so skinny. I've already bought spacers to fatten up the Rancher. I'm looking for rims to widen it when stock tires need replaced. I want know if anyone has put header & muffler on a 420FE? Does the EFI returne to it? Or will I need to chip of some sort? I'll try to use title search as much as possible before I ask newbie questions. I'm lurking... CaptCoolbreeze

Hi folks, I was wondering if someone might be able to direct me as to how the extra wiring for the removable headlight on an 85 TRX250 was originally bundled up/placed? In the middle of restoring my dad's old bike and it has looked like the first picture I've attached for the last 20 years at least.... Now that I have all of the original plastic back for it, I'd like to put that wire back how it should go (I believe it goes in the cubby under the headlight itself with the two main fuses, yes?). Any info or pics would be great, thank you!

Eh, typically I do my due diligence and I tell everyone to do the same when I sell parts online. I usually don't have much of an issue but I was unaware that the 85 had so many differences than the 86 and 87s on these bikes when I started, including that the OEM gas tanks were slightly different. Live and learn. Not the end of the world and I ended up being able to make the tank I got work. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Hi Shadetree. Yea, the battery itself and its location is certainly NOT stock. Ha. My dad modded that YEARS ago for several reasons. One, he got tired of paying so much money for the little OEM sized battery that tucks up near the left rear wheel. That is a good ol "garden tractor battery" that runs about $40 from Walmart (probably $50 now with inflation but still half as much as the $100 for the OEM size). So cost was one issue. Cost bothered him because as you may or may not know, 85s had a notorious cold start issue and his was no different. He's turning 80 this month so he's not really the internet generation..... he dealt with it mostly by burning up batteries and starting fluid. However the much larger capacity garden tractor battery could take the abuse much, much better than the stock OEM. He even went so far as to tossing the OEM battery box (why, I couldn't tell you, I know he had to relocate the starter solenoid as he couldn't find a battery cable long enough to reach the stock location). I have replaced the OEM battery box and parts and placed the solenoid back in it's stock location attached to the back of the battery box. Then ordered a nice custom length battery cable that tucks up and runs back to the solenoid in it's stock location. Now I have the option to go back to the OEM sized/location of battery but honestly, even though I've since corrected the cold start issue (my solution was to buy a used '86 carburetor (a QA09 to be exact) and rebuild it. Works great!), I still like the larger, cheaper battery idea so I am keeping it for now. I live in IN so I'm not going swamping with this bike. If it gives me issues on the trails the few times out of the year that I'll use it for that, then I may change it back. But for now, I'm good with it. πŸ‘

Well crap, as i figured, stepping away from this project was a bad idea. come to find out, i needed the rear lights cleaned, new bulbs installed ( have them ), lower skid plate cleaned and painted as well as the rear rack painted. got the rear rack painted, not installed yet. lower skid plate cleaned, painted, installed. in the process of cleaning the rear tail lights up, got to wait until i get my parts washer solution from tractor supply today. should have this 450 done before friday evening for sure ( i hope ?..lol ). small things always takes time to clean, paint, install. will get pic's when its all done.

for future reference, NEVER, EVER...TAKE A SELLERS WORD ON WHAT HE/SHE CLAIMS TO HAVE !..LOL. you must know, do your home work when it comes to know what you are working on. with 30+ yrs under my belt on '' most '' honda atv's, atc's, i know what to look for in models.

i would pull the shift motor, hook to a good battery, see if it spins ?. if it does not ?, then the motor is bad. very common on the es models. also check to see if the battery is fully charged ?, they will not shift if battery is weak. last but not least, angle sensor could be bad again.

Did some more research on this and I did find a fairly easy way to differentiate an 85 from an 86-87 gas tank: the upper front area on the left side is "cut" away on the 86 87s as I believe this was to make room for the steering lock, which the 85s did not have. This being the case, it's quite possible that the rear mounting holes are just slightly off from each other as well. This being the case, I have to retract my previous statement about being sure the tank was from an '85. It is not, it has the cut away area as seen with the 86-87s. So even though the bike I bought it from was an 85, who knows..... maybe it was already replaced at some point as old as these bikes are or some kind of weird mid year change.:

πŸ™‚ I did make the tow rope from paracord. The crate however I did not use balsa wood, I contemplated using balsa but in the end decided to go with Poplar, We are trimming out a house right now with paint grade wood and this was made from scraps from that. I ran it through the tablesaw to get β…›" thick strips then, then ripped them to the width I wanted. I decided to go with the harder wood because if I rolled the thing over and that's up on top I think it would crush the Box and break it. It is unfortunately a little heavier so therefore adds some top weight to the center of gravity. I glued each of the planks together with with Elmer's wood then Took the strips and nailed them on with 23 gauge pin nails 3/4 inch long. I think that adds a little bit to the realism. They are about the diameter of a stick pin without the head maybe even smaller. It is a very sturdy little Box I think it will survive a roll over, Not that that would ever happen!πŸ™„ That Jeep looks like an old RC Willie, There was a guy I knew 40 years ago that had one. He beat the crap out of that thing and it kept on going.

I like the tow rope , looks like you made it from para-cord ! ----- The crate is cool , could that be balsa wood ? I still have a couple of R/C trucks , this one is a Willis Jeep body that I stretched to fit a chassis of a sand racer , then I made a hitch for it , it pulls the boat well and is not afraid of the mud , LOL

Wilson hope that link answered your question, was quite a competition in its day.

Yea, if no one else chimes in or anything, I'll probably just bundle it up as neat as possible and use a nice, reusable wire tie on it and put it in there.

I can't remember it to well , other than the cord was not very neat or organized --- the best you can come up , using your imagination ( best tool in the box ) with , is likely better than it was from the factory

Thank you sir. I was able to get the front plastic carrier/rack on yesterday as well (mostly). Starting to look like a quad again! I do have the tail light assemblies, they're over on the bench right now. I've ordered LED replacement bulbs for them, once I get the bulbs I will reinstall the housings. And I'll look over the rubber rack straps but I'm pretty sure they way they are is the only way they'll go on and work to latch the door in place.

Just got done making this crate for the roof rack, have some other accessories coming. Then when you think you got it handled, you find out they make 1/24th scale as well.🀯

Got myself into another hobby since winters are so long. You'd think I could find something cheap to do. This one is more expensive than the airplanes I have πŸ˜•. But a lot of fun and can take it along without taking up much room. Wings take up a lot of space. Been fun to add upgrades. Amazing how realistic it is when crawling slow, has locking front and rear differentials, 2 speed transmission. High speed setting it will lift the front end off the carpet and wheelie for 4 or 5 ft. Amazing traction even in and on snow. Been fun to add upgrades and accessories.
