Some of the guys who have been around for awhile will remember the discussions we had when this board was started, in regards to politics/religion. At the time some members though it was a bad idea, but some thought it should be allowed as "free speech" Those arguing to allow such ultimately won out, so we've had free reign to do so for quite awhile now. As some predicted, it ultimately has caused problems. We've had some long time members who contributed greatly who left the board, and we've had some infighting amongst those who have remain. In short, it is proving to be eating away at the board, a little at a time. We started this board after vertical scope ruined the old board. We have a group of guys here who like to work on ATV's, and who like to help others work on ATV's. I see them as puzzles to be solved, and I enjoy working through the problems, and I also could not have done MOST of the projects I've fixed without help from the guys on this board. THAT is why this board is here. Discussing politics and religion, and having memes posted everywhere has detracted from the primary reason for this forum's existence. If this board is going to continue to survive, things have to change. We can't be fighting amongst ourselves. That said, I like a meme or two, and sometimes I'm in the mood to argue politics and/or religion. There's a great place for that here. It's free. https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/General-Discussion/5/ Huge forum, much bigger than this one likely will ever be, but it's somewhere I frequent that allows the shenanigans. They can afford to have members at odds with each other. Here, we can't. We're too small, too closely knit, and it's tearing this place apart. I ask for your understanding, that we all can tell @shadetree that he was right when he says "I TOLD YOU SO!" and that we can go back to fixing ATV's here.

It's opening day of archery Deer season here in the rugged northwestern UP of MI. I have stands set up for five 8 point bucks and a decent 6 point, plus a big elusive bad boy that looks like he has 12+ long and tall points, that I've scouted so far. Today the first of the five young 8 point bucks was taken, he's 4.5 years old and the same age as three of the four remaining 8s. The older 8 is 5.5 years old and has a bigger rack than the others and he's a bit more shy. There is also one large 10 point here that I haven't eyeballed yet this fall, but I'm expecting him to wander by a stand cam anytime.... From a north wind direction setup this youngster made our day!

Went camping with some friends this weekend and was able to explore a new trail that we will for sure visit again. It's a bit further to drive,(30 min) but is in an area that is open year round on BLM land. Easy and smooth to ride and just another great option to take new riders. It's off of an area called Sheep Mountain Road and about 100 miles(90 min.) from home. Not a huge ride, 22 mile or so loop with some criss crossing trails within, so with an early start could make a decent day of it without feeling a lot of pressure to ride and get home. Not the most scenic but enjoyable nonetheless. Great rock formations as well.

My 2019 Honda Rancher 420 4x4 manual shift work & hunting bike I put a 20" light bar on front. 2500 lb winch and basket carry rack on back. Have a milk crate on front rack I use to carry tools, 4- coffee containers for corn. The big black box on back rack ís used for tools and hunting stuff and everything I need to keep clean and dry. I also have 2- reflector markers mounted on bumper it's for catching spiders & webs going through the woods.

A friend and I took an impromptu tent camping trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior for 4 days. Put 75 miles on the ATV and toured down by the lake by truck and hiking. Weather was awesome with highs in the 70's and 50 at night. Got caught in a thunderstorm a couple miles before we got back and had to pull a downed tree off the trail. My next ride will be with Freedomflyer and family two weeks from now in Montana.

Thanks guys. I don't ever want contributing here to be a hardship for anyone. If the regulars would do just a little on a regular basis, large donations wouldn't really be needed either. Once we knock out what used to be a $20 month payment (now annual required at $240/year) our monthly bills will usually be about $100/ month. If we had quite a few chip in just a few bucks we'd have it covered every month. I was shocked at how little it takes to run a forum. I always figured these things required hundreds or thousands of dollars to keep going, and that's why all the ad revenue was required. Of course, we have Retro who set it all up for us for free, so big thanks to him again for doing it.

he showed up..just not with the tractor...but his sidexside..lol. we had to lay the stand base down up against the blind bottom while it was on my trailer, me climb inside the blind, and screw the floor to the base, then wrap a strap around my blind, hooked his 5000lb winch line to the strap, he pulled it up, while a few of us lifted the whole thing up from the backside. i also tied a rope around the back side , so once it got up, we could hold it from going all the way over. it worked out pretty dang good.

Unfortunately the floor is not real wood. Luxury vinyl planks, snap together, 100% water proof. Beings its going to be a vacation rental they had to make some concessions. I put it in the laundry room as well. Then a waterproof tile in bathrooms along with shiplap on the walls. Wood would not be the best choice, needed something durable. They own the farmland, will never be developed. It's in some sort of conservation program. They own thousands of acres, which is huge in this valley. They farm hay and grain. This year they had over 7000 acres of hay alone, over 5000 in grain. It's in a nice setting and should do well as a vacation rental.

She'll learn to drive the footshift. Both of my older daughters learned on a footshift, and were driving them by the time they were 10-12 (under close supervision). The footshift is the best and most reliable of the Honda transmissions. Let her learn it. We need kids to be flexible and adapt instead of trying to change the world around them.

My brother, uncle, two friends and myself lease around 500 acres in Northeast Kentucky. We have been there for 13 years now and are still making adjustments to our hunting spots as needed. We are fortunate enough to have cellular trail cams so the first thing I do when I wake up is check my new photos! Bow opened for us the 2nd of September though we generally don't hunt that warm of weather unless we just need to sit in our stands and watch the world go by. There was an old house on the property that we helped fix up a bit 13 years ago and stayed in it. Over time, the mold has taken over and it hasn't been smart to spend too much time in that cabin. My uncle and friend bought a large shed to insulate and stay in, and my other friend, brother and myself each bought an enclosed trailer to convert to sleeping quarters. We go to the property about six times a year before we begin to hunt. We maintain this or that, move stands and feeders and use all as an excuse to be out there hanging out as a group. Hunting for me is doing all that with my group, developing the herd, and putting myself in a position to take the kind of deer that I know is in my area. I take deer most years and give it to a local food bank. Sometimes I won't shoot anything and other times I'll put one in the freezer.

I get to burn a vacation day Friday to accompany people who have been hunting without permission some land Dad has, apparently for several years, while they remove their stands and feeders from Dad's land. In the early 80's, Dad found 240 acres for sale. He couldn't afford to buy the whole place, but thought that the property was a bargain, so he asked a friend if he wanted to go 50/50. The other guy balked, so dad said he'd do 2/3 and the other guy could do 1/3. They bought it, with Dad getting 160 and the other guy 80. They were allowed to hunt ours, and us theirs, but no one was allowed to hunt without being with a family member of one of the two families. This worked well till about 10 years ago. Dad's friend passed away, and his son is a grade A POS. Enough to where I won't speak to him if I see him. The son sold the 80 without ever telling us he was selling it. He also cut all the timber over 24" off the place before he sold it (RUINED the timber stand on that part of the place). The guy who bought it asked Dad for the same agreement about hunting, which Dad agreed to. That said, Dad is weird about such things and required a lease for the guy, and in that lease it stated that if he sold the adjoining 80, his lease on Dad's ground was immediately null and void. Guy needed money 4-5 years ago, and sold the 80. He then leased hunting rights from the new owners, but Dad told him he no longer had the right to hunt Dad's 160. A few weeks ago, the boy my daughter has been dating for 4-5 years asked me about the property (he apparently saw it on the county property map that shows the owners). I told him it was Dad's, and told him good luck. My father never let ANYONE hunt that property unless he or I were physically present. Not even my closest friends when we were young. The boy asked, and Dad says "Sure, you can keep an eye on it for me, and hunt it. ONLY you, no one else" No telling what all other stipulations were in that lease Dad made the boy sign LOL. Boy goes out to walk the property. Asks if there is an easier way in that hiking ridges and valleys through the public land to get there, and I tell him we have an easement using a road on that 80, tell him I'll get him a key. Key doesn't work. Someone has changed locks. I was there bank in the spring and my key worked then........ I contact the group that owns the 80, and they say "Nope, not us, and no one is leasing the 80 from us any more". I tell them I'm going to cut locks and put new on, which I did. I left notes on the gates stating "Private Property, No Trespassing" with Dad's name and my cell number (Dad never answers his phone). Boy goes in there Friday and finds stands, feeders, and game cameras in several places. Power line easement is one giant long food plot. Tell him to grab the game cams and we find the guy who isn't supposed to be there anymore (the guy who owned the 80 for a couple of years). Tell that to Dad and the owners of the 80, and tell them to talk and figure out how to handle it. The next morning I get a call at dawn from the previous owners son, who had found the notes on the gates. Apparently they had an auto-renewal on the lease with the current owners of the 80, but hadn't paid or even talked to the owners since 2021. They weren't supposed to be on Dad's land at all as of the moment they sold that 80. Dad tells them to get their stuff off the land, and now I get to burn a vacation day Friday to stand watch while they get their stuff. They said they were going to remove bridges and culverts they put in too, and we had to have the family lawyer tell them that they weren't allowed to remove improvements that they did to leased land (bridges are in bad shape, and don't really care about the culverts, but Dad doesn't want them destroying the place with equipment, so it has to stay). It never ceases to amaze me how stupid, unethical, and entitled people become when it comes to hunting. On a bright note, the boy is getting sole access to land that is covered in food plots. Bet he really kisses my daughter's ! now!

Hunting is about to start here. Was hanging with my buddy sighting in his guns right after daylight yesterday This is his 45-70 buffalo primitive weapon on the 50 yard lane. He is dead eye dock. I have the H + R short model 45-70. Shot his H+ R buffalo barrel yesterday and what a difference a few inches of barrel can make. Kicks like a mule. Also shot his other primitive. Whalen 35. I think that one kicked harder. Might have just been the shells.

Bad neighbors. Anyone have them? Right now I'm blessed with the greatest neighbors anyone could ask for. It wasn't always that way. One house I had was set back a good hundred yards from the road. Come HS football season my mailbox would take a hit on Friday nights when there was a home game. Word around town it was the neighbor teen doing it with his beater truck. I started pulling the post up Friday evening and replace it Saturday morning. For 3 weeks I did this and didn't weed whack around the mailbox. I located a basketball sized river biscuit and placed it right behind the mailbox for the next home game. Next morning the mailbox was gone but there were three vital fluids left leading me to his house. Coolant, motor oil and ATF. Never a word was ever spoken about this and the mini boulder was in the ditch about 100' down the road. Scratches to beat the band.

We are on the road and about 300 miles from home yet. We can't thank Freedom Flyer, his wife and family enough for the GREAT time. As predicted, when our wives met, within 10 minutes I was sitting in a chair in the living room and was forgotten. 😊 I will add to this thread when I get home and straighten out. I will leave you with one parting thought: After 2 trips with a total of about 66 miles in challenging terrain it is indisputably the best 2-up machine out there. I have had a Honda since 1985 and my next one may very well be Can-Am. No matter whether you have Honda, Yamaha or Can-Am, independent suspension and power steering cannot be beat. A straight axle would barely make it through where we have been or been anywhere near as comfortable.

Howdy from Northern Iowa, . I bought our "Wild Blue", on 19OCT2021, a 2018 Honda Pioneer 1000EPS 3 seater, warn winch and moose snow plow. . About me... 20 years Army, Retired in 2007. Work for a local trucking company, as a mechanic/computer tech. Wife, 4 children. 2 finished college, 1 still in college. Bought our 40 Acres from my parents in 1996 while still in the service. I grew up here, and I knew I was coming back here to live. . Yes, I know this is an ATV Forum and I have a Honda Pioneer 1000 SxS. I joined because I was helping out on another ATV Forum, and @jeepwm69 mentioned your forum. I have been a mech my entire life. Helped dad with his 18 wheeler, and everything here on the farm growing up. 20 Years in the Army as a mech. I used to tell new Soldiers in training: "Everything is either electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic. Once you know the basics, you can work on anything." So, if I see someone post a question I know about, I'll help if I can. I am not saying I will even be here very often. Probably only once in awhile. I help over on the Honda Pioneer Forum and The Honda SxS Club. Like your forum here, owners are looking for answers. Heck, I even help over on the Polaris General Forum. Even though that was a dumb assbeep.. mistake. hahahaha!! When I joined over there, I thought it was for ALL Polaris's in general.......Not knowing that there was a Polaris called a General. hahaha Hey, if you can't laugh at your own screw ups, just give up living.😁 . We share Our 40 Acres if any of you that are close to us need a place to ride some short trails through woods. I say short, because any trail is fun, and it is a place to ride, but nothing compared to places like Ride Royal Blue. Hunters, Riders or Walkers | our40acres If you look at my website, you can see the trails that are on Our 40 Acres. I do need to update the map though. My nephew got the mowing bug and started making more trails. haha! . NO, I am not selling anything, and NO, I do not charge anything to ride or walk our trails. We can share Our 40 Acres, because Iowa changed it's Laws to protect the Land Owner. Before they changed the law, any idiot who stubbed their toe, I would have been liable for their injury. Luckily, nothing like that happened. You can read the LAW on my website. . . Enjoy the ride!!! . Have a good day

Not sure who all will be interested in watching me build this ?, but figured i'd post this thread to entertain ya'll !. after my last deer stand crumbled on the top area (canvas)..sigh. decided to just build my own blind seeing how most are either cheaply built ?, or very high dollar ?. sooo..i set off on my brain cells coming up with a replacement stand that i ( thought ) would go back on top of my metal raised stand ?. my plan was to build it here at home, then take it all back apart, and put it back together once at my spot ?. NOPE !!..it is way to heavy to sit on top of the china frame 12 feet up in the air, ( go figure, china products )..no..i did not buy the old stand, the guy that is letting me hunt on his lease area did 2 yrs ago. So i set off on a mission..to build my own stand all out of wood, it is nothing fancy like some of the high dollar blinds ?, but it will serve me very well !. i added foam insulation inside on the bottom section, did not do the inside roof, i figured with it being 3/8 plywood over that canvas crap with insulation , it should warm up very fast once i fire up my propane heater that i was using in the old canvas stand. i added some indoor/outdoor carpet inside for the floor, and then tossed in my office chair ( gotta sleep good in there ya know ! ). today i will start putting the corner boards on the corners, then paint it the same color i painted my cabin, its a light gray that i will use as a base color, then i will (attempt) to paint some camo designs over the base color. I have installed plexiglass windows on all four sides, followed up with some curtain rods to hold black color glad contractor trash bags. i will come up with a way to weight them down to keep them from making noises when the wind blows ( and you just know the wind will blow them..and scare the deer away ! ). not sure how i will weight them down yet ?, I've got an idea of putting pennies on the bottom to hold them down, not sure how well this will work yet ?, but i just need to weigh them down some how with something ?. as for sealing the outside of the windows, i bought some garage door bottom seal stuff, it is made of pvc, with a rubber lip on it. i cut it to frame out the outside opening, the rubber seal presses against the plexiglass pretty good once the window is shut from the inside, seals it up really good to keep water/rain out. This is my very first deer box blind i have ever built !, it's not pretty by any means when you compare it too high dollar blinds ?, but it will suit me just fine compared to what i had been using.

Just a thought- I had a similar issue where mine would not rev up, and fall on face when you blipped the throttle My rubber boot on carb slide was pinched under the top cover during reassembly The carb is a CV carb and uses air pressure/vacuum to lift the slide so make sure rubber boot is not pinched/torn under top carb cover It helps to put a bit of white lithium grease around edge to help seal You can also remove airbox and watch slide through carb boot to see what its doing -AKATV

Had a LONG talk with Brian Bertram last night about my Hondamatic. He thinks the swash plate is just jammed and that i can pop it loose, so I'm going to try that. Apparently sometimes the shift motor will try to go too far in one direction and jam up, usually as a result of a bad angle sensor. We talked about Hondamatic design, oil pump designs, different problems we've seen in engines, other Honda models etc etc etc. The guy's knowledge on the Hondamatic Rubicons is staggering, and like most of us here, he does it as a hobby, not for a living. He's delving into the Pioneer 1000 side of things now, fixing busted ones. He also mentioned messing with the Rancher Hondamatics from the 04-07 400's, so I know @wheelsquad would find that interesting. I'm going to be out of pocket for a few days, but will update this when I get the chance to try popping that swash plate loose with a screwdriver.
