    Firearms

Winchester peaked in the late 50’s. Their 22’s (52, 61, 62, 63, 69, 72) from that era are unmatched. Remington 5-teens are nice too. So are the 12 and 121 pumps Marlin 39A is the nicest lever RF, IMHO. Anything made in the mid- 20th century beats the rough plastic and cheap designs of today.
  2. Not only did you miss the deal, but then you had to fix it and see what a great deal it was!
  3. Yep Shade, it’s shaft drive. Supposedly Yamaha makes good stuff! It’s not like it’s a Polaris or something. Price was right (FREE)!
  4. The 98 I bought with no spark had that adapter thingy with a new CDI the guy had just had installed from Honda a month or two before I bought the bike. They replaced the CDI and it ran, but they didn’t catch the bad voltage regulator so it quickly fried the new CDI. I put a used regulator from PSN on there and a 350 Rancher CDI and it fired right up and ran like a top. The 350 CDI attaches directly to the factory plug without that funky looking harness. You’ll have the fan wires hanging off the CDI that aren’t used, but the 98-00 300’s will definitely take a 350 Rancher CDI
  5. Basfnb showed up with these on a trailer over the weekend. 125 I bought a couple of years ago and it’s been sitting in basfnb’s shop. Top end is off and I’m even sure if it’s all there. Was $50 though, so hopefully I can fix it up over time for new baby to ride when she’s older. Brakes look weird on this thing. They all like the rears are on the bigger bike (cable actuating a cam)? Any idea what year it is (couldn’t find the VIN)? 185S has already been here once. He didn’t want to put money in it. Ran but smoked like a freight train. Front tire needs a tube. No brakes at all. Wouldn’t start for me but plug is probably fouled out. Anyone tell what year it is from looking?
  6. Picked up this KLF80 Raptor from Basfnb’s brother, along with an old 185S Honda over the weekend. Turns over great, doesn’t even try to start though. Haven’t really had time to even look at it to figure out where the battery and airbox are. Could be a good one to keep around for the kids. Anyone have any experience with these things?

    Firearms

Almost all of mine were lost in a tragic boating accident. Very unfortunate. Before that I did a little smallbore shooting, and Dad did a lot of pistol shooting when he was in the Army. Did shoot down some mistletoe this weekend with the kids

    Music

That movie did a spectacular job of running through modern American history and perfectly matching it to music. Something I can watch over and over again, and of course, I have several copies of the soundtrack.
  9. Nothing at all? No popping/sputtering? If compression is off you'll have to pull the top end, and at a minimum hone the cylinder and put new rings on the piston.
  10. I've done the whole "hook a rope/winch cable to it and it will fall the way I want" I've luckily never had one fall on a house or on me, but it only took one time to learn that that rope or cable isn't going to steer that tree the tiniest little bit. It's going down and that rope/cable isn't going to change it one bit.
  11. Viper Max worked well for me too. The Viper Classic I bought didn't last long at all. Warn is the best but I have a hard time paying new prices when I can get an 8K Warn Jeep winch cheaper. I've picked up several used Warns lately for $100 or less
  12. LOL. Reauxdolph the red nosed gator?
  13. Sounds like something is hanging up. I'd check the spool first. I wouldn't think it would freeze while you were using it.
  14. The All Balls I just got were packed in the plastic box/tub container. The apparently NOS older ones without the side seals were on a cardboard backer and shrink wrapped. Pic here.
  15. Kid is a class act, and Orgeron is too. After the Arkansas game this year he said “There wasn’t going to be celebration for beating Arkansas,They haven’t beaten anyone in a long time.” The press jumped on it, and he apologized. I didn't feel like he owed anyone an apology. What he said was 100% correct. Jalen Hurts is another class act. Glad to see the stage have some good people on it now and not just brash, arrogant thugs.
  16. Yeah you have to have a receipt. The new bearings have the All Balls part number embossed on the side of the inner race. That's what prompted me to call them, which is when they told me they are All Balls bearings in Pivotworks packaging now. I got a few sets of Foreman 500 bearings for $22 over Thanksgiving weekend on Amazon. Wish they were the good old Pivotworks bearings but they're not. That said, I have the receipts so I'll get one time free replacement on them when they wear out. I'll be popping the seals off and packing them full of good synthetic grease before I install any of them.
  17. Oh I got you. Yeah they just send a new pack with bearings and seals together.
  18. Pivotworks I've gotten in the past haven't had side seals. They've been open on the sides like OEM bearings. Looks like All Balls bought them out in 2016 and they've transitioned to All Balls bearings (with side seals) in Pivotworks packaging. Since you only get one replacement, which you'll use when you send your bearings in, there won't be any future warranty on the ones they send as replacements.
  19. Put a shot of starter fluid in the air cleaner. If it fires off for a second you have a fuel delivery problem. If not you have other issues (compression or timing, if you have spark).
  20. Eh, better to have and not need, than to need and not have, right? I did pick up some 300 BLK for a buddy. His kids use his for deer hunting (younger boys who don't like recoil...yet) and it was $5/box, so I grabbed him 4 boxes of that. I guess I'm old enough to remember when these were normal prices on the stuff, and like you, I don't shoot like I used to. With a house full of girls, only one of whom has any interest at all in shooting, and that's limited interest, I don't do much shooting anymore.
  21. They had XM193 for a hair under .17/round. Not a bad price at all these days.
  22. I've more or less cut that out Fish. I finally came to realize that at the rate I'm going I'll never finish my own stuff, much less so if I continue to be the charity mechanic for everyone else. Saw a guy in a restaurant after church yesterday and he asked if I wanted to rebuild a 700 Pioneer for a friend of his. I said "Not just no but ! NO" He laughed because he remembered the fits our mutual friend's Rincon gave me. My wife said "I'm proud of you for actually telling someone "No" when they asked you to fix something for them"
  23. I've run a ton of the WWB 9MM through an early 70's Colt 1911 and an old Ruger P85 that I had in my younger days. Never had a hiccup, but they would eat anything. That P85 was like holding a brick but it went bang every time. Most stores are sold out of the clearance stuff. My local store had some Remington green box 45 on the shelf this morning that she'd just restocked. $25/100. Everything else was GONE. Only thing I bought was some CCI shotshells for a 38/357 and the same thing for 22 They make good snake cartridges when I'm fishing.
  24. If you aren't enjoying it, at least to some degree, take a break. If you stay away from it for a bit, the desire to work on it again will return. I go back and forth from Jeeps to ATV's to my old truck to boomsticks and then start the whole thing over again. Have a lot more hobbies than I have time to do them, but I do get tired, frustrated, and irritated to the point of walking away from it. I take a break, tinker on something else, and eventually work my way back around to the projects. Here lately I haven't been able to do any wrenching with this new kid. Needless to say I'm practically frothing at the mouth to get back on it. Nothing makes you want it more than being away from it for awhile.

    Accidents

Well not only is teaching them right and wrong the right thing to do, it will also serve to protect my children! Had that kid been taught not to ride on other people's property, there would never have been a situation where he was struck and knocked off of his bike. What if Carlos had been more aggressive and done something that killed that kid, even unintentionally? Yes, Carlos would face consequences in such a situation, but those consequences would have have brought that child back to life. So ultimately, the problem starts with poor parenting. A child that has not been taught any better isn't responsible for his/her actions, the parent is. Carlos likely went a little too aggressive in dealing with the problem, but had the parent done his job the whole situation would never have happened. When you look at the problems we face as a nation, the overwhelming majority of them can be traced back to someone not wanting to be responsible for themselves.
