  1. We only have 5 acres but it's surrounded by hundreds. Only one instance in the 13 years. Two Amish that when confronted said there were no sign so it was OK to trespass. WRONG!
  2. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present the Bionic Marshmallow. 1989 PC800 Pacific Coast. 84k miles and still as smooth and reliable as it was when new. I can't find a better scoot that fits our needs so I just keep riding it year after year.
  3. Worst thing that ever happened to my wife is the two boys moving out. Now she gets blamed for all the tools I misplace. 😉
  4. We had a Ford F750 I think line truck with a 370 2 bbl. on Conrail. Nicknamed that guttless thing Rolls Canardly. Rolls down the hills, can hardly make it back up the other side. Seems to me it had an odd shift pattern too. Something like 4l, 5l, 4h then 5h.
  5. Many, many years ago while doing training in Grosse Pointe Woods MI we heard one sweet sounding engine go by and stop out back. I asked one of the students to go out and see what it was. He came back laughing his a$$ off. Said it was a city garbage truck! Break time! Went out and looked and sure enough, a garbage truck. Had 427 on the hood.
  6. That's got one heck of a howl to it.

We found some el cheapo bug zappers at Aldi's two years in a row. Initial opinion was ther were junk since to flaming insects fell to the ground after the mini lightning strike. As a matter of fact they didn't make that all to pleasant zap sound either. But, night after night they kill around 300 mosquitoes each. They are very selective to what they seem to kill. There's a cereal bowl on the bottom than twists off holding stunned moths for my Carolina Wrens to eat. Thinking they were about 17 bucks. I started out with three running but my lovely wife thought the best way to clean it was to bang it on the concrete. Yeah, that knocked to dead bugs loose and destroyed the bulb too. The next year saw them again and picked up two more as spares. Since then one did go belly up. Dunno why but my mosquitoes population is almost nil two years in a row. https://www.aldi.us/en/about-aldi/warranties-manuals/warranties-detail/sis/si/gardenline-outdoor-insect-killer-2/
  8. Mine have ice spikes on the bottom. Yes, great on ice but deadly on a polished concrete garage floor.
  9. The Blacks have a slightly shorter wingspan and of course the black instead of red heads. The red heads get fed coon on a regular basis on the southeast edge of my property. 😉
  10. We call the red headed buzzards Turkey Vultures here. They are harmless only eating dead animals. It's the Black Headed Buzzards that do the calf killing. Yep, they start with the eyes.
  11. If I used the phone you might see a white dot. I'll take the Nikon out the next time and see what I can do. Bald Eagles are common around here in the river basin. I know of two nests close by. The locals are very proud and protective of these beautiful birds. Like yesterday, I could have easily got 200 maybe 300 yards closer but don't think the nesting pair would like it so we all seem to have an unwritten rule that nobody gets any closer that a certain point while Eagle watching. They are very wary birds seldom letting humans get closer than about 100yds. While canoeing the river we notice about the same distance applies. About 7-8 years ago the local Wildlife Officer was on the local radio talking about Black Headed Buzzards now living in our area and that even though they can and will kill a newborn calf they are a protected species because they are migratory birds. Officially that's their story but if you call and complain about them the Officer will tell you he can't get to your side of the county for at least a week...😉 Anyway, that Saturday morning with buzzards on our mind, my wife was looking out the window and asked what kind of buzzard had a white head?🤔🤣 Son of a gun. A bald Eagle not 40 yards from my bedroom window perching in the top of a lightning struck tall Black Locust tree. That's my Eagle story.😁
  12. Big mistake on the 5 buckles. They do not have a removable felt liner as I remembered. These do have a furry insides to them. These are Lacrosse 00367190 Tracktion boots for use on ice. A size 10 overshoe measures 5" wide, 13.5 long and 11 high. Picture beside my 10.5 Redwings.
  13. I've learned to spray my bare feet with anti perspirant and using 100% cotton socks before going out. There's a pair 5 buckle arctics with a felt liner maybe 3/8" thick? and studs for ice on the bottom that I forgot to give back when I retired. They are extremely warm but at a cost of being very large and cumbersome. Also difficult to put on and take off unless you slip a Walmart bag over your boots first.
  14. Made it to the river today and saw one juvenile Bald Eagle eating on a deer carcass and two adults on and around their nest. It was good to get out even if it started to rain just as we got to our nest viewing point.
  15. Our log home came with two fireplaces. One standard fireplace in the finished basement that seldom gets used and the other above it on the main floor. It has stone all the way up to the high ceiling as well as a built in heatalator. The ash door can be used to allow air from the garage behind it to be used for combustion. The damper has been cracka-rigged to allow it to have multiple adjustments by using a lever and latch setup coming out the front at the top of the firebox. This setup works quite well since very little air from the house goes up the chimney. Since I'm not choking the fire off from air, our chimney stays very clean. Before we converted from propane to natural gas the fireplace was our main source of heat. $1,400 for propane the first winter was a real shocker and we started taking advantage of the 5 wooded acres we live on. Now with gas and my last bill for heat and cooking only being $90., there's little incentive to cut wood for heat.

    Today's forecast is 55 and mud.🙄
  17. You might get a 3% discount by paying cash instead of debit or credit. Having a handful of Bens is a liability when it comes to being robbed. Not common but the dealer might not like taking the chance. Two options. Get a credit card that offers cash back points. Use it and get the 2% back if you can do so by paying it off right away and then canceling before the annual fees kick in. Second one is to make a deal with them that they split the profit with you that they make on the financing if you use their offered financing. Make sure you are allowed to pay it off right away without penalties to yourself or them. Some banks have a 90 time period so watch it. I did the second on the last new car purchase and paid the note off 91 days after purchasing the car. Total savings was a little over $400 so it isn't much. As mentioned before, get them to sell you additional options at their cost. Do some research prior to and find out MSRP of the options and expect to pay 50 - 70% of that number. One Honda dealer tried to charge me full price telling me it was his cost and I called him out on it telling him I called his parts department two days before and was quoted the exact same prices for a normal Joe off the street. So in order to save face we got the Dog Friendly package, all four mud guards and a roof rack for free on our 2011 Honda Element. Dealers are slick. You be slicker.

Been above freezing for 24 hours now. 37 right now but yesterday at 07:00 it was only 2*F. Back deck is almost all cleared of ice with a little help from two outboard drive shafts welded together and sharpened and the Echo blower. Rake on the 4wheeler is breaking up the inch or so of the ice in front of the garage a little at a time. Going to be above freezing during the days until further notice. Or so they say...🤔
  19. So very sad to hear. I was able to get past the paywall and read the article by googling " Mitchell Republic Cameron "
  20. Needless to say every time the Shuttle deployed it's truckload we were reminded of it.😉
  21. Very nice truck. Here's something you can put in the bed.
  22. That horn!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hit 34 today and some hint of sun. Enough for me to chip away enough ice on the back porch so the 10 yr old lab can go out without slipping.
