Forgot to add my local small town non syndicated radio station has very accurate local weather. July 29th 2012 at 10:00am their forecast for that afternoon was very strong storms with damaging winds. NOAA upgraded their forecast to the same about 3 hours before the nasties hit. It was a mess. We were without power for 52 hours, others up to a week. One guy I know just installed a propane genset and he told me he spent nearly a grand keeping his beer cold.

Where do you wise guys and gals get your weather info? I've been using the NOAA site and find a total lack of exaggeration refreshing. Wife likes the weather channel but it almost a given they will overestimate the snowfall accumulation.
  3. I also build and fly RC. With all the additional regs it's getting to be a PITA to fly a few of my larger planes. Over half come in under the weight limit so I can still fly them without worries of the Black Gunships coming to shoot me down. Yeah, time to change the screen name since Sierra was sold a few years back. Had a screaming good partnership going for quite a few years. I have thought many times about a kitbuilt plane but now that I have the time I plan to do some serious downsizing here real soon. How in the world can you keep track of that little boat at those speeds? My RC planes are electric slow fliers. It's all you can do to keep from throwing rocks at them when they fly by😉
  4. This time of the year my usual inside hobby is reloading centerfire ammo but with components being either non existent or way over priced, my reloading bench has been converted to building plastic models. The desk in the loft sits right next to a window so a fan and ducting were made to allow a way to exhaust the paint and glue fumes. Model building has been something I've enjoyed on an off since a small kid. About 20 years ago a small hobby shop was going out of business so I stocked up on some kits. Here's a few.

  6. Cutting plastic can be a bit of a challenge to get the speed of the cut right to avoid melting the plastic. Generally the more agressive cut the less of a problem melting will be but the difficulty in controlling the tool increases. Tools I've used include a sabre saw if room permits, carbide bits in a die grinder, small sanding drums on a dremel and drilling multiple small holes side by side then cutting between them with a razor knife. The last method works well for removing large sections but the sanding drums at a low speed is required to clean up the cut.

The worst thing about Ohio winters is the lack of sunshine. If gray is your favorite color, Ohio is the place to be. And dummy me buying acreage on a north facing hill, I get even less. With the leaves down I can see a house on the opposite side of the river valley that's 1.7 miles away. I wish I lived there in the winter. Summers are far better living on the north face. It's much cooler with the shade from the hardwoods.
  8. 10 to 1 odds that's HD powered. Look at the oil streaks.😂

43 and mostly sunny yesterday. The little ragtop got a chance to see some sunshine. So did my bald spot.
  10. That sure hits close to home. l learned so much from my Dad just by holding the flashlight while he worked on anything around the house.
  11. That gas tank reminds me of the Mid 70's CB500 T. The brown flop. We had a less than kind name for it when one sat on our dealer's showroom floor for a few months. No one liked the brown seat.
  12. It sure wasn't lack of lube that caused the failure.
  13. My Hondas are so quiet the only tick I hear is the crack of the spark plug😉. What is this tick you type of. At idle? I do have a ticking in both my 300s that only happens when first starting to movr when cold. I think it's the centrifugal clutch weights finding their way.
  14. Looks like my handywork but the welds are much better than mine😳
  15. I found few details about when or where it was stolen. Were they inside a home with it parked in the yard for example. I hate theives. Had a neighbor many years ago that liked to help himself to my tools from a shed. He had already been in prison and out on parole. When he came over offering to sell me a firearm he went right back to prison. Ends up the gun was stolen and I got a nice thank you from the rightful owner of the gun. Stupid %$<] neighbor.
  16. Reading this thread is a wake up call to be more careful to prevent theft on my own bikes. Curious to know more about the circumstances of the OPs 700 surrounding the theft. Maybe sharing info might prevent someone else's loss.

This is what I've been using to control heaters, cooling fans etc. The RR crossings with gates have to keep frost off the electrical contacts inside the gate mechanism. I used to install a 25 watt resistance heater controlled by one of these snap switches. Pick one that closes about 35* F and place it in an area that gets the coldest. Wire it in series with a heat tape and the heat tape will last one helluva lot longer. http://senasys.com/34-snap-disc-thermostats
  18. .22 birdshot. Either in a Ruger Bearcat or a bolt rifle. The Hatsan CZ 452 Lux clone.
  19. I make tiny birdhouses with an angled 1/2" hole in the front and a hole in the bottom perfect for screwing in a disposable water bottle. Bees think the front hole is the entrance to their nest and enter. Don't like what they've gotten themselves into and head for the sunlight which happens to be the water bottle gathering light and pumping it in to the bee trap. Once in the bottle they can't climb up or fly since the neck is narrower than their wingspan. I'll guess I get around 100 each spring and the birdshot takes another 50. It keeps from getting too bored.
  20. Now it's a 5-6 year tally but I'm up to 196 racoons right now. One nearby sweetcorn farmer claims 283 coons shot in one growing season. That ladies and gentlemen is a real problem. I have a log home with matching interlocking log 28x36 shop. I had coon skulls on every log end on the front of the shop before my wife claimed my display was grotesque and took the leaf blower to them. It's been months since I shot one but as long as they don't show up on the trail cams every night or destroy the bird feeders I'll leave them be. Coons and Carpenter Bees. Yeah, they are my enemy.
  21. Around here that's illegal. If you take them half way across the bridge you are closer to being legal.😳 Law states raccoons are considered pests and must be dispatched in a humane manner and the remains are to remain on the property where killed or caught and killed.

We have another 5" nuisance snow coming this afternoon. Just got the last one all cleaned up and the gravel put back on the driveway yesterday.

Makes me wonder what's in the federal Coronavirus stimulus bill that was passed without reading.
  24. I tried my darndest to live peacefully along side of the raccoons. After the trailcam caught one killing the mother and baby nesting Bluebirds I became aware. When I got up to hit the can one night and saw one came in through the doggie door and was eating dog food out of the dog's bowl in the kitchen, war was declared.
  25. Pretty cool idea. I've always used the big dummy shoot n see. I skipped all the steps and just shot the spray cans. If you're half blind lay a lit fusee behind the spray can. Anyone can see the fireball.😳
