  1. That front wheel must be for plowing. It sure isn't going to be for changing direction.

I was 26 at 6AM. What are the chances of that happening.

Last minute change to the forecast left us with more rain and sleet than snow. It was supposed to be 3" of snow last night before 1/10" of rain and sleet then another 2" of snow on top of that. Thinking that, yesterday morning I went out with the echo backpack blower and cleared off the 2" of powder we got the night before. When the rain started it landed in bare driveway, sidewalks and decks. At least I didn't blow off the steep 450' of driveway coming up to the house. But as it stands right now a large portion of the flat area near the house is mostly ice.

Whatever happened to all the talk of smart meters. The ones that could turn off smart appliances when the power companies deen neccessary? This would be a perfect time to shut off the power to those wanting windmills and not coal fired powerplants.

  6. Looks like a Honda and a Massey Ferguson were left together a little too long and 9 months later....

Old GF had a Pomeranian. Silly thing ate the mylar icicles off the Xmas tree. Easy to spot the doo doo in the yard at night with a flashlight come cleanup time. All sparkly.
  8. Normal evening in the side yard. Heated water bucket on one of the septic tank lids brings 'em in.

Columbia Gas brought out a 500' roll of 1.25" yellow plastic, 500' of tracer wire and two risers. They inspected the ditch and risers prior to back fill then tested after I filled in. I rented a trencher and bought all the black iron pipe for $365. Highest gas bill so far was about $120 for heat and cooktop. Mother in Law lived with us that winter and it was a cold one too. I like it so much I sold my splitter. Still cut and split some Ash for fun once in a while and have a couple full cords just in case.

When I bought this place it had propane heat and the rest electric. We used the fireplace hard until I found there was a gas line 1 foot into my property. Gas Co. supplying the materials and I did the work. 450 feet of ditch through the woods. Parts were here from when the furnace was converted to LPG so swapping back was easy. I've given thought to getting a gas water heater and drier and getting a whole house NG genset but in reality if it wasn't for the 'Rona, we would have sold this place last year. Don't think I'd get my money back upon sale. All the longer outages have been due to T-Storms and not freezing rain so it's been much easier to deal without power.

! nice work. What line of work are you in if I may ask?

You need to find something like this and hook it up to one whopper of an alternator. 😳 http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/ag330_sr.htm

Generators are becoming more and more common. So are power outages. I think it's becoming a viscous circle. Power companies are more interested in profits than providing reliable power and know many have generators so they care even less. In my state the vegetation must be cleared on every circuit every four years but AEP still doesn't do it. Guess it's cheaper to pay the fines than to clear the lines.

With the little Yammy I have to ration power if I want to make coffee, use the microwave or run the gas furnace. One fireplace has a heatalator but I need to run the furnace circulation blower to get whole house heat. So a little switch flipping between keep food cold and momma warm has to happen with the 1600 watt. If I'm careful 15 gallon of gas can last 5 days.

The thing with generators is there's always going to be something left off the circuit unless you go huge. It's a balance of fuel usage and convenience. I'm more concerned about losing food in the fridge and freezer than watching TV. I have two. The primary one is a 1600 watt Yamaha that gets dragged into the yard, plugged in to a HD cord coiled up behind the AC unit, flip a few switches at the breaker box and refill the 1 gallon gas tank every 5 hours. At night I top it off before going to bed and and again when I get up. Seems food stays fine with the generator at 50% duty cycle. The other is a 3450 that I can run my well pump or bedroom window AC.

Back about 18 yrs ago we got hit with about 1/2" of freezing rain. I was still working then. As soon as the rain stopped I and all my guys had to go inspect every RR crossing that had gate arms. The gates are designed to power down the first 45 degrees then free fall. The gate arms were frozen to the mast and wind brackets so we had to either climb the mast with a hammer or find another way to chip the ice. The motors just didn't have the torque to break them free.
  17. Must be a low pressure pump. Don't believe that engine would have plain bearings....but you never know. Be nice to plug a gauge in that hole and see what it reads.
  18. Makes perfect sense if that is a pressure sensor instead of oil level.
  19. Good deal. Especially in this type of weather.
  20. I used to have one that held itself to the stamped steel oil pan with magnets. That's great unless you have an aluminum oil pan or a compound curved steel pan.
  21. Was that heater the first part down the assembly line?😳
  22. By looking at the price I see they are quite proud of their gas can. Seems to me it would be cumbersome to use.

There needs to be a "sux to be you" button. 😉 I've had to work outside one night at -22 F and it really sux'd to be me, that was for sure.😳
  24. Unfortunately, the entire video. An old friend and I use Whatsap instead of texting because it allows transfer of very large files. That's how I got it. To be honest, it ruined my day seeing it.
