I appreciate that but I'm not LEO. I am former military, current SAR (Search & Rescue) and have consulted with our town on sniper tactics enough to convince them they had to engage with the nearby larger town for resources and get a few of their people at least qualified when the bottom of the barrel is reached. Don't think *I* am that bottom of the barrel (but I would be, if needed). From all that, I get LE rounds and other things that won't get them in trouble. As far as being sucker punched, I'd gladly take it also if it would make some communist or socialist mad enough to take a swing.

Bear season is about over here but I didn't do that. We did shack work and mowing/brushing. Ruffed grouse season opens September 18th. That is my main passion and my hunting shack is smack in the middle of the wildest country and best grouse hunting in the continental U.S. My friend was headed to Texas though and I went with since I've never been here. Hoping to wack a few coyotes as I mentioned on another post. Just arrived today and be home on the 20th. Then I'll grouse hunt a couple days when we get back take a couple days to regroup and go back for 15 days straight. That will be a good start. Told my wife I will see her at Thanksgiving. 😁

I'm a very happy drinker. I would hope if drinking something brought out the anger, I'd notice and not do that again. I don't enjoy being angry, unless I've talked myself into it for competitive reasons, then it's fake anger.

On the 4th of September, Deer Archery period opened in Kentucky, where I hunt. I've been doing visits here and there to get my stand ready, feeders stocked, trail camp checked, cabin organized, etc. Leading up to deer season I get burned up to be there. I don't normally go for archery opener as it's still too warm and the deer aren't moving. I have a SAR course to teach that I stupidly committed to so I won't be going this coming weekend. However, the following weekend .... ah yes that weekend .... I'll be heading to deer camp late Friday night and in a stand early Saturday morning. I won't take any deer unless a monster buck cruised by (it won't) but I'll be making sure the small details are taken care of, I'll get in a good tree stand nap or two, and I'll be watching the deer. I'd like to say I'm watching their patterns and that helps, but in the rut all bets are off and deer are just influenced by patterns. Travel paths are still there, but additional paths are used if bucks are chasing or does are running. I'll go a few times in October (muzzleloader opens then) but rifle opens the 13th of November, where everybody will be there and much hunting will occur. I won't take any bucks unless a trophy walks by but I'll take two does and debone them onsite and let them age in the cooler for a week. How about yourself? What going on hunting-wise for you?

I loved the ban era AR's. It just showed how stupid the gun grabbers were when they defined an "assault rifle" by cosmetic attributes. When they screech "High powered" that cracks me up as well, since the old farts like Dad call it a "mouse gun" and mock anything smaller than a 7.62 in a military rifle. With the EO on Russian ammo, doesn't look like shooting is going to be affordable any time soon. The scum running the country are throwing down all their cards. Will be interesting to see if they keep any support aside from the true believers.

Interesting. You sure you didn't just get a wonky plug that was arcing at the wrong spot? I don't put much thought into the fuel I run. Ethanol free 87 from the local Farmer's Co-op goes into all of my small engines. 2 stroke oil is usually whatever's on the shelf when I need it.

same here. It's the only reason I've made any ammo purchases since the covid panic kicked in. most big box stores in my area have zero ammo, what little they get (Cabellas for example) is stored behind the counter, with very tight box/customer limits and the prices are as high as any gunbroker rates i've seen. Best my local shop has done is a 1 box limit of 9mm plain box for $27. my cop shop 2 months back had 13 cases of PMC brass 9mm. Their retail on the shelves was $27 with no limits. A bit of friendly conversation and they told me I could have as many of the cases as I wanted for $16/box of 50. Had my retired LEO bud with me. I bought a case, he bought a case and we took a third case to break into smaller lots for several friends that we met at the range 2 days later.. all was spoken for immediately. no, $16 is not a good price by old standards, but it's a fair price in today's climate and it allowed us to do some more , much needed, trigger time without dipping into the reserves. my 45acp stuff is pretty much still shuttered as it's just too pricey. Did run a couple mags through one of the 1911s last weekend. But most drills we still run just 22lr and then step up to 9mm for a half dozen mags. My Sig M18 is a 21rd, but I also have the 17rd for it. Either way, I typically only take 3 boxes of 50 to the range with me. When that's gone, it's time to go home. I was a bit disappointed last month when I pulled the Sig into play. The gun was fine, it was me that had lost ground due to lack of practice. Couple mags later I had corrected my trigger issues and groups were getting tight again. so, yes, painful as current prices are...it's important to keep the skills up best we can. Also did a small amount of 100yd bench with an old 1995 Colt AR15 (yes, post ban bolt and block) but still a sweet , quality rifle to shoot. Not my grab n go AR, but a fun piece of history, that makes 100yds stupid easy. In fact , setup as a service rifle, I had to adjust the scope cause the handle sights don't even get started below 200. Anyway, talking ammo... it was an enjoyable morning to be tossing rounds down range and not fretting over inventory. btw: WonderMonkey...if you are LEO (in whatever form)..you have my thanks..my support. My daily wear ball cap has a thin blue lines flag patch proudly displayed for my locals to see. I'll likely get sucker punched one day for wearing it, but if that's the price..then fine.

How do they taste? And how many do you take when you have a successful hunt? My brother has mentioned that for dove there is very little meat, but a grouse seems to be larger.
  9. 2 points
we don't have grouse here, but alot of dove, and dove hunts ... mostly after farmers have harvested there crops.... mighty tasty to for such a small bird.
  10. 2 points
Grouse flush like they are shot out of a cannon. You need to be pretty fast to be successful. They can run to beat heck too. They are so high strung that they cannot be raised or held in captivity.

Wife said weather at home didn't amount to much. When we arrived here in Texas yesterday it was 92 F but low humidity so not terrible. 63 F this morning. Very nice, turkey's and deer running around. Saw really nice 10 pointer. Gonna get hot again today. We are about 90 miles dead east of Amarillo.

A few corrections and additions. 2021 Part B deductible is $203. Plan G covers the Part A deductible which is over $1,400. No need to worry about in network or out of network. If the provider accepts Medicare, they accept your medigap insurance. Plain and simple. I worked since I was 16 so it's about time to get a chance to suck the teet a while.

Heavy ball, med ball, etc. In the CrossFit environment, which popularized the movement, they use a med ball, which is short for medicine ball. Why do they call it a medicine ball? See this link if you want to know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicine_ball Wallballs are a tremendous exercise that encompasses many things, but a very important key is your form. Can't use old-school squat technique, as that puts tremendous pressure on the knee joints. Instead, use what evolved from the powerlifting squat which spreads the stress out and is more biomechanically correct. Again, thank Crossfit for pushing that into the general population. As for the knee wraps, I put those on during the drive to the gym and keep them on until I get home. They do provide a bit of stability but moreso I'm looking for them to keep the knees very warm, which keeps them lubricated. I know right away if I have not done enough to get them warmed up. If I feel pain I stop and warmup more and tell myself what an idiot I am. I warm up the lower body with a series of various lunges (using good form), leg swings (front/back, side/side with the toe forward), etc. Not only are my knees getting warmed up, my ankles, calves, hams/quads, hips and lower back are all involved. Between warmup sets I'll go over to our bar rig and do mobility on my shoulders, which gets my lats ready to go. I consider the 100 wallballs part of my warmup. When I get done with everything in this paragraph I'm ready for anything lower body related, to include my boxing workouts. When I first started to do wallballs as part of my warmup, it took away some energy from what came next. However, I felt they were so necessary to get my body fully ready to go that I just kept at them. First I did 10 sets of 10, which extended my warmup period beyond 30 minutes. I'm now up to 4 sets of 25 using a 9 lb ball. I'll stay at 4x25. A 9 lb ball isn't that heavy but warming up is my purpose. It takes a full 20-30 minutes to get really warmed up, depending on who I stop to talk to while I'm doing it. While I'm warming up I mentally prepare myself for what I'm getting ready to do.

It finally rained off and on for a week and temps have been in the 60's - 70's which is fantastic. But now I'm on my way to Texas with a buddy to his hunting land and it's supposed to be in the 90's.... yikes!! Gonna see if I can wack a few coyotes and feral hogs.

Nov. 1st I go on Medicare. Here's what I'm finding out. A few months before turning 65 you'll get your Medicare card. In that envelope will be a form to fill out and send back in if you don't want part B. A is free, you have some money deducted from you SS or in my case Railroad Retirement check to pay for part B. You must get B to get any other supplement plan. Part D is drugs. There are three plans available to me ranging from $7-25 / month. Used to be plan F was the best supplement but isn't available anymore. F covered all deductibles and Uncle Sam didn't like that. Law says a plan you choose is going to be the same regardless of who you buy it from. Except cost. My advice is if you have a local insurance agent that isn't tied specifically to one company, go visit them. That's what I did for my home, cars and now healh insurance. Turns our if I use the same company for all three I get a good discount. My part G supplement plan costs me $110 a month. Like all plans I have to pay a deductible of around $200-something a year. Dr visits are 20 buck copay and ER costs 50. All the normal stuff is covered at 100%. 80% if in a foreign country. Watch out for Advantage plans. It sounds like to me they are a real bear to deal with and limit where you can go. Like HMO's do. I don't know how much my pension will be reduced but will find out Nov 1st and will report back. Way I understood I'm currently paying for Medicare tax just like you working guys and gals but that will stop when I have to pay for plan B. Again, go talk to a reputable insurance agent. Edit: My pension check gets reduced by $156/month.

LOL..."the thing that goes up..." nice piece of gear ya got on that table!!! yeah, my latest acquisition is a 1995 Match Target HBAR 20" . All original in green furniture. His son says it might have 600rds through it and it is like new. His dad pulled the cheaper scope that came with it and dropped a nikon P223 BDC on there. I have several of the nikon P series and think well of them so I was happy that it's on there. Included with the deal basically for free..so that was another $200ish at the going used rate for those. STill had the strap and the original tools in pouch in the rear hatch of the stock... The son was actually surprised when I went for the latch... he didn't realize that was there. I've even got a 50cal can of the old greentip 65gr ammo that the 1:7 twist is supposed to be happier with. Guys with contemporary AR15s (1:9/1:10) complain about the 855 stuff, but this rifle was made to eat that I believe. anyway, yeah, I never intend to convert anything to select fire, and this , as it is, is a well made rifle that I'll be happy to hand down to my children...in the meantime, it's fun to test myself on that handle sight system. i just don't have range longer than 400yards available to me.

yeah Jeep.. I do have a later model Armalite AR10.. I prefer the 7.62 in a "battle platform". But I also grabbed a deal a couple years back on the S&W M&P2 in 5.56. Nice, lightweight and reliable carbine...better for CQB. The old Colt was on a whim...guy's dad passed away and he doesn't much care for the older Colts..takes too much to alter them for dress-up...accessorizing. some things though...are best left simple. While the ban model Colts do have that stupid sear block and the shaved bolt to be able to clear the block, the balance of the gun is still a high quality rifle. ( and of course no bayo lug..oh my!!) It does have the grab handle mount with a nikon scope on it, but really those handle dual sights are still the way to go as long as the old eyes can see. It's as close to a true service rifle as a boy could get. Very accurate, a joy to shoot, and dead nuts reliable. So, no, not my first grab from the closet if I had a fight to join, but I like still being able to purchase (legally) product like this without the FFL documentation should that ever matter some day. And it came at a price that I could tolerate.

Factory plug, but I did check and it's not arching wrong, from what I understand now about all of the new emissions standards make them burn that way or cleaner fuel, I switched back to Tru Fuel until the carb tool comes in nice n light black how they all usually are lol. Yea can't believe I never thought a cleaner burning fuel would do that hey first time for everything. I used to be of that frame of mind until my main mower died and I was doing a yard for payment. Then I started to investigate the true cause. Poor fuel. On that note if anyone is interested go to Taryl Fixes All channel on YouTube go to his playlist and the fuel additive experiment is very very interesting.

Ruffed grouse are very tasty. White meat about like chicken. One bird will feed one person. You can shoot five a day and have ten in possession. A large majority of hunters won't do that good.

you do have this oil ? and your not giving it to your father, right ? I'm sorry jeep i had to ask... lol! ahem... yes sir, i would mix it with straight bar oil to extent usage.
  29. 1 point
Oh I'd filter it before I did anything with it for anything shy of a bonfire. The bar oil sounded like a good idea, but I'd have to mix it with something stickier.

the deer are crazy this year...solid population...some fawn are still loosing their spots and the others we are familiar with are about 3/4 grown. I can't keep them out of the flowers, even with the motion sensor sprinkler and the smell spray. I have to really watch close driving in and out of the hood, as they are all over the road. I think both of my bow hunter neighbors have moved on...so we won't see any real action locally until gun season starts up. anyway...plenty for them to plink at this season. Just not on my property is all I ask. I will be out back on my range more now that weather has cooled down...so any trespassing hunters might be wary of sneaking onto my property.

I don't currently hunt...so I've not paid attention to the calendar..but it was obvious hunting season had begun by the number of trucks hauling ATVs around this past weekend. You woulda thought there was a convention or something (grin).

before you despose of the oil I'd like to see whats settled .... just curious... and especially if you do the magnet dip...... some use old oil as fine machine oil, but that's about all i can say, i used it as roller chain lube for exposed chains on hay conditioners, round bale rollers, hay elevators, combine chains, etc ....

i too am not sure, but when i purchased mine ... that was all the rave back then... copper this, copper that, maybe it was the compression of the gloves ? I've have to do more research on it... but i do have a nice set of gloves. so not too bad...and they do work whether it's the copper, or the compression..... I'd now think the compression.

This is chat, and you aren't posting about one of the hot topics, so this forum is where I think things like this belong. Heck my "Compressing the Shocks" started out as a community workout and such thread, but it's evolved in just me staying what I'm doing. That could EASILY be taken as looking for attention, but I'm just interacting as I know people comment on it and have sent me PM's on it. It's chat, where we chat about things that come to mind.

To go further ..... Three days a week I'll train with weights. I always focus on hamstrings and hips, as hamstrings are my weak point (as it is with most people). I'll not go any heavier than I currently can do and I'll actually drop back and do more reps. In a Strength & Conditioning approach, I maintain Strength and increase Conditioning. Below is typical on my S&C days. 5:30 am 20-30 minute warmup 10x10 compound lower body like a trap bar squat 3x10 isolation for hammies like a stiff-legged deadlift or a GHD I'll superset the hamstring isolation with warmups for upper body Push/Pull press/row like dumbell press and cable row Push/Pull press/row like incline dumbell press and chins (assisted) I don't do any direct bicep or tricep work I end with loaded carries of some sort I try to be done by 7 am. This makes me keep things brisk. I only have so much energy reserves and I will also come back that evening for boxing skill work, but light. On days I don't do S&C, I go harder on the boxing skills and movements.

Speaking of squat technique, when I started to do Crossfit a number of years ago, I stepped into a box (gym) that was very strict on technique. Back then Crossfit experienced many injuries due to crappy form but luckily this box wasn't like that. Crossfit, since its inception, has grown up and evolved, and except for terrible coaches, focuses on strict form. Anyway, a good Crossfit movement is based on Oly (Olympic) movements. As they were re-teaching me how to squat, it really made sense. And not just squat with weight on your back, to just squat down, be it sitting on a chair or picking up a stump or whatever. Even now when I put my kayak overhead to load it on my Jeep I use a good clean and press technique. It makes people laugh in how different it appears, but I like protecting my back, etc. So back to the box. When I first started there they ran me (and all new people) through an evaluation and started to fix form. In time I was allowed to do things under load (weight) but even then if my form got wonky they would take the weight and give me a pvc pipe to use until my form improved. I liked that as it stressed how important form was. When you change your form, either you immediately drop in the weight you can handle or you suddenly increase in the weight you can handle. Which way you go depends on what part of your form is terrible and needs improvement. When our dads and coaches would yell "Lift with your legs!" they meant to not lift with crappy form and screw up your back. If our dads could have been taken aside and taught even better form, that generation of people could have been spared some of the back issues they got from having to work do ! hard with physical labor.
