    Weather

Nothing like winter scenery, when our mountains get covered they are absolutely beautiful from the valley floor, this is one of the ranges that surrounds the valley I live in. They are called the Bridger Mountains named after Jim Bridger, he was a Mountain Man, trapper and Wilderness guide through our area. The peak that is circled in black is Sacajawea Peak the highest point in the Bridger range, very top is 9,665 feet, my brother in-law and I hiked it a couple years ago in the middle of an ATV ride I took him on. Just to the right of my right leg is an almost vertical drop of 2,000 feet down. Wind was blowing about 60 mph that day. was awesome to see the valley from that point of view. Unfortunately we haven't had much for weather so far this year, been unseasonably warm. Normally single digits and below zero, we've been in the 40's and above, had 58 one day last week. have slept with windows open all week only down to 30 or so at night, weird.
  3. Hey now just cuz someone owns a Can Am doesn't make him "Off Topic" LOL. We might have something to say once in a while.
  4. Will be.....Gulp.....57 this year! I just can't believe how fast time goes, I remember hearing folks talk about how fast time goes the older you get. I wish they'd been lying. Wife will be 58. Learned to ride a little Honda SL70 when I was in the 3rd grade, wasn't mine but had access to it on occasion. Folks bought me a Honda CL100 when I turned 12. It wasn't exactly the bike I wanted but beggars can't be choosers. I rode the snot out of that thing it was more of a scrambler than a dirt bike but put knobby's on it and took it every place I shouldn't have. That little sucker would do 85 miles an hour (small rear sprocket) and I rode it as fast as I could when ever I could. I wore that thing out. Graduated high school and bought myself a Yamaha 750 Maxim Road bike in 1982. Still have it although I haven't ridden it in the last 15 years, would like to take it in and have someone go totally through the thing, has sentimental value. Hadn't ridden much of anything until 4 years ago when we bought our 1st Rancher. Wish we would have made some concessions somewhere and got into 4 wheeling when the kids were young but we were putting them in private school and the money that always came first. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy it and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. We are finding out a a few of our friends have machines of one kind or another and it's been great to get out with them as well. Lot's of places to explore in the Big Sky Country and we've just scratched the surface.
  5. WOW! We have literally not laws concerning ATV's/UTV's. Well not entirely true. We buy them. We take the title down to the DMV, they fill out the information for a registration, print one off, we pay a one time fee of $180.00 and receive a permanent license plate and a permanent off road sticker for that particular machine for as long as we own it. Requirements on our part? working headlight, at least one tail light, horn, 1 rear view mirror. lighted license plate holder with current plate, off road sticker/decal placed somewhere visible on the machine. This makes the machine street legal. Helmets required for those 16 and under, no riding double unless it is a factory mandated machine (supposedly) never have gotten a second look while riding with kids as long as they have a helmet. With a licensed street legal machine we can ride anywhere we want, in town, city streets, county roads, and highways as well as all legal off road Forest service trails. If I want to take my atv to the grocery store I can. As long as we are following posted speed limits it is not an issue. pretty spoiled that's for sure.
  6. Interesting, my brother has been using them for 5 years and he does a ton of plowing and has never mentioned one thing about them not performing well. He does 3 really long driveways And we had monster snow last year. Almost all my riding is done in the summer anyway Lol . I'm just glad I didn't Have to buy them. They're pretty expensive. And for the plowing that I do I've just been using the stock Carlisle's that came on my other 570. I think if I was going to do a lot of plowing I would just buy a couple of sets a chains.😉
  7. Thanks retroThat was supposed to read are all of your trails like that? Lol ! I can tell you one thing I'll take this cold weather any day over those giant lizards And creepy crawlies . At least our mountain lines are very skittish and don't like people and the Grizzly bears usually run away as well When they hear machines and people.
  8. Retro posted that he though treason why images uploading fails is because the Chat app may not be properly integrated with the IPS permissions system.
  9. That's what I thought last night drama was up pretty late Messing around with it. Reducing the size of the file did not help at all.
  10. Fish yeah I figured That I can Transfer pictures of a thread That kind of defeats the purpose as a They have already been posted. It's really not that big of a Deal. I just thought that it would be Able to post something if you are in the middle of a conversation. So the pic you just posted, aren't you ever worried you're just gonna be swallowed up with all that water around? Lol While your trails Like that are they?
  11. So are you saying the Maxxis Bighorn 2.0's aren't a good tire? I'm asking in all seriousness, this last Can Am I picked up has the Maxxis 2.0's on it. My brother bought them for his '12 Rancher 420 about 5 years ago and he loves them. Granted we don't do any mud riding but they seem to have plenty of traction on our rocky mountain trails. After 5 years they still look great, he does tons of plowing and uses it for field work as well. Just curious, I thought for a Radial tire they would be pretty smooth riding and grip well, I didn't get a chance to get out with this machine before Winter hit and the trails closed, guess I'll find out next spring.
  12. Is it possible to post a pic in the chat section, I've tried and cant seem to get it to work.
  13. Nice!, Keep the fluids changed and the thing will last forever. My brothers father in-law bought a little Kawasaki bayou in the early '90s he passed away about 6 years ago and that things still runs like a top they use it around the farm all the time. I think Kawasaki makes a good product. Congrats to her. FF
  14. I think your right sure looks like one
  15. Holy Cow!!!!! THAT is a project! Don't know if I would have the stick-to-itiveness to or ability to do that. I know I certainly don't have the space to tackle something like that. I am always amazed how rusty things get in other climates. I am very grateful we don't have humidity here, very dry heat and cold here, rust is not generally a problem. Will be following this one, never did read retros build but will be fun to see this as it progresses. FF
  16. We went to Nemo about 7 or 8 years ago for a family reunion, we weren't riding at the time so didn't pay any attention to the trails, saw a lot of different machines running around there but they seemed to be of the wider variety. My in-laws live in Rapid, may just have to bring ours down one of these times. I'm assuming I would need to purchase a trail permit, any idea what that runs? can you buy it for a few days? or is it better to just purchase for the Year? We are fortunate, when we get a license plate for ours we can purchase a separate off road sticker that is permanent so it's just a one time fee for plate and off road sticker. Is an 800 Polaris that much bigger? I thought most ATV's were under 50" by a couple of inches, my Can Am's with stock tires are 46". Interesting. Well if you load up and head this way I'll take ya out LOL.
  17. Awe come on Shade, where's your sense of adventure? LOL
  18. Fish, I would expect nothing less, LOL!!! Man I wish you guys could come and experience some these mountain trails. The riding season is never long enough and we Never seem to get out enough during the sason. I am seriously toying with buying a set of tracks so I can continue to ride on BLM After the forest service trail shut down for the year. Then some of the snowmobile trails would be fair game as well. However a set of tracks is about the same cost as a whole other two up machine. Then you have the issue of the Adapters and then there some sort of module you need to buy so that it doesn't rack up more miles than you're actually driving. So I really have to consider the cost. Not to mention the extra weight common each of those tracks are 80 to 90 pounds so you're adding another 400 pounds or so to your quad. But boy do the YouTube videos look fun.
  19. Lol! I will say that was one thing I never worried about when I was Out on the ranchers was getting back or Breaking down. I can say so far These machines have been very reliable. Yeah if funds were unlimited I might just have 1000 ATV, 1000 trail Maverick, and 2 or 3 sitting around for when we had company. Course if funds were unlimited I could fly people in and take them riding lol
