  1. As far as I know, Mississippi, where I live, doesn't have atv registration stickers. You are allowed to title them, or not. There are some specific rules for state parks. So I guess if I came there, they have a weekend pass or something. I ride mostly on property around my house. I have taken a sxs to WV for a group ride. I will occasionally go to a park at Fluker, LA called Tower Trax, which is around 2500 acres, lots of mud that I mostly skirt but decent trails for fairly leisurely riding, which I like. We take the sxs and/or the atvs there. I bet Fish has been there. There's a few other places, but they are rare.
  2. Those locker are pretty big in the can am world. You can lock a can am front diff cheap too. But then try driving it fast and turning. The torqlocker allows one tire to turn faster than the other, it just cant turn slower than the diff is spinning the axle. So steering ain't so bad. This video, while not of turning, shows what I'm talking about and you can see how that would make turning easier. I've been thinking of putting one in my commander.
  3. Thanks for the pics. So I would say the tubing is 7/8? The same as the rack which is 7/8? 3/4 emt conduit happens to be the same OD as the large tubing on the rack, just thinner walled. I may try that. It’s cheap. Plus I have some. If that doesn’t hold up I’ll buy some thicker walled steel. And that’s almost exactly how I was going to connect the tubing at the bottom. I’m still thinking about the top at the rack. I don’t know where to find those double clamps. I have a couple other ideas. I wiil be ordering the foot pegs soon. I got an email from kimpex today saying the protector tubes for my machine are out of stock until September. But they have the pegs. Thanks for the help.
  4. That is a beauty! The muffler barely shows any sign of mud. I would love to find one of those in good shape.
  5. Hey Dredd, trailer looks great and very useful. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about your rear seat/storage as I'm thinking about getting one for my 06 foreman. First off, how do you like it? Do passengers find it comfy enough? And what kind is it? Second, as to the rear foot pegs, I cannot find the kimpex rear fender protectors in stock for the 06 anywhere. And even if I could, I don't know if I would buy them or just fabricate them, which looks pretty simple. Is yours kimpex? My idea is to make a plate mounted under the factory foot peg and then run it down the top back half of the floor board where the tubing will mount to it and then run it up to the rack, which appears to be how they're made in general. If you don't mind could you tell me the OD of the tubing used because if I make some, I would like to use the kimpex folding footpegs? I can find the footpegs on amazon and ebay, etc. Also, if you have a chance, would you take some pictures of how they're mounted? Thanks
  6. Thanks. As to the windshield, yes and no. Technically no in my case. It’s most commonly sold as a kolpin brand full tilt windshield. But it is also sold by can am as one of its windshields. Other companies sell it too. I believe the brand on my paperwork was new directions or something like that which sounded like a boy band.
  7. All of my plastics finally shipped from Partzilla. They did not add a shipping fee. Why that is, I do not know. When I made the order, I paid the $5.99 expedited shipping fee thinking that it might prevent them from adding a large fee since their disclaimer on large parts specifically only applied to free shipping and to also speed the process up. Whether that had anything to do with it, I do not know. The order was certainly not expedited however as I placed it approx 22 days ago.
  8. Thanks for the thread Reebs. Your posts have made me that much more careful. Personally, I have no desire to separately measure the fluid when there's a perfectly good check hole there.
  9. Oh I did order new plastics. Part of them haven’t shipped yet but the side tank covers, pull cord cover and oil cooler cover showed up yesterday. I went with red. It’ll be in the shed under a cover when not in use so it won’t fade.
  10. The best I could get out of the pink foreman I got from a friend/coworker was a little closer to pepto bismol than fairy princess pink. The foreman is basically new (<600 miles) other than having sat in a mostly unsided barn getting sun for years. I didn't pay much for it and runs great after I cleaned the fuel system so I thought it merited new plastics, which I ordered. But, I had thought about having it hydrodipped. I would have picked a red design so it would have looked right given the underside. You might look into that. I didn't do much research. But it looks like magic. Ha.
  11. About to finish up. Still have a couple little things like repaint the wheels and pull the spring off the rear shock and repaint it.
  12. Thanks. I'm real proud of the end result on the rears - it looks as good or really better in real than in the pictures. I'm working on wire brushing and repainting some of the front end components today and then hopefully get to the front fenders. I think the real trick to it was the razor blades at 90 degrees. I removed a lot of oxidized plastic that way, so it was pretty orange by the time I finished that step. I got the idea of the 90 degree razor blades from a guy that had shown me that trick to removing old gaskets years ago and then akatv posted a video of someone cleaning the plastic on their gauge face with it. So I thought I'd give it a try. When I went to the torch, it looked almost like I was spray painting shiny orange with it as it went over the surface. It didn't do anything for the pink plastics on my forman though. Well, I could go from pink to pepto bismol. I guess they were too far gone.
  13. It was just turtle wax brand. The compound was just to even it out at the end.
  14. I ordered new plastics for the foreman as resurrecting the pink is hopeless. But I’m refreshing the rancher’s plastics. I’ve done the back. This is what I found works best so far. To remove the white oxidation layer, a razor blade at 90 degrees back and forth is 50 times faster than steel wool or sand paper. A regular razor blade for tight areas and a utility knife razor blade for the big areas. Then go over that with wet 600 grit sandpaper. Then extra fine steel wool. Bring the color back with a heat gun or propane torch. The torch was easier and faster for me. I then buffed with rubbing and polishing compound with a buffing wheel on my drill. Finally spray foaming tire cleaner on it and let it sit for an hour or so and wipe off. The pictures posted out of order for some reason but they show the progress. I used aftermarket decals for the rear but have new oem decals for the gas tank, front 4x4 decal and warning stickers.
  15. gorilla or turner, followed by cobra axels
  16. This is our other ORV, a 2011 can-am commander. I got it in early '16. I had to fix several things on it when I got it, most notably and most expensively, I had to replace the gearbox. But it has been a solid machine since I did that and upgraded several thing. Most recently, I built some winter doors to work with the factory accessory pro armor doors. They're gull-wing style and as far as I can tell, unique. Here's a link to the build log for those doors: https://www.commanderforums.org/threads/upper-doors-for-oem-pro-armor-doors.64516/#post-885529 Here's a few pics of the machine:
  17. I got the fuel level sender working. You were correct. It was stuck in one position. A fair amount of build up where the arm goes to the circuit board. It looked sort of like battery corrosion but yellow/white or fine sand lightly concreted. Picked that off and used wd40 giggling it til it started to move. Then worked it with wd40 over and over plus tapping on the end of the arm where it comes through the plastic housing with a little brass hammer until it finally flopped freely. Took maybe 5-10 minutes plus removing and putting the plastics back. Thanks.
  18. Not yet. I made the order yesterday and the confirmation email shows the order with no extra shipping and an email this morning saying some parts were delayed by the manufacturer until tomorrow. This one showed the order too with dates available. No additional shipping yet. They’ll probably wait and hit me with it later.
  19. I guess I could cancel the order and go through the dealership. I don’t know if that will come out any cheaper.
  20. I don't know. I tried several things, including wet sanding an area followed by rubbing compound and polishing compound with a buffing wheel. I think mine has just had the color sucked out deeply. I found out my fuel gauge doesn't work. It has been sitting on three bars since I got it back together the other day and put just a little gas in it. I was thinking, man this thing gets better mileage than the rancher. . . Then it died. LOL. Reserve to get home. I poured 2 gallons in it. Still 3 bars. I guess I need to pull the sender out to see if its repairable.
  21. All I managed was a deeper pink where I tested heat. Worked pretty good on my orange rancher though.
  22. This is a picture of the pepto bismol monster.
