5 pointsWilson, your A coil should not ice up at all. Coil should never reach freezing. Your problem is either air movement past the coil or it's level of refrigerant. Check your filter. If that's clean and blower is normal it's probably refrigerant. Do not use high efficiency filters, they plug too fast and restrict air flow. In spite of the claims of filter manufactures, furnaces are not meant to filter out your household air, the filter is there to protect the blower motor. Also, each refrigerant has a spec for which compressor oil it runs with. You cannot put modern refrigerants in with older non-specified oil or it will eventually wreck your compressor. This was in effect in 2006 when I was doing it and has not changed.

4 pointsMy old boss gave me a 70's era True Kegerator that had a non-working condensor fan. I replaced the fan, POR15'd the inside of it to stop the rust, and bought a keg of Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat (KC microbrewery). The lesson I learned is, microbrew beer starts tasting a little "off" after about a month. Drinking a keg of "porkchop in a glass" beer by yourself in a month is no easy task when you're old with a job and kids. When you finish that keg you will discover that your pants all magically shrank. So, when people ask why I have Michelob Ultra in the kegerator instead of a more exciting "good beer" it's because the mass produced beer can go 3-4 months without the taste changing (so I don't NEED to drink it constantly), and I need LIGHT beer in that thing or I'm going to weigh 250 lbs.
-
4 pointsyes sir i understand that..... it has a new filter, I'm not qualified to work on home units, but i know all the mechanics.... but i finally located the issue.... the back door was left open... from my threads you can guess who did this.... sigh.... if this happens again, she will be paying for the repairs!!!
-
4 pointsAll the above. I also carry a sand anchor you would use in a small boat. Where we get stuck in the loon s#+t there usually isn't a decent tree to hook a winch to. I plant the anchor in a beaver dam or in the scrub and winch out. Very light. If you're interested I can post a picture when I get back home.

3 pointsThere are two types of metering devices. So when the refrigerant turns from a gas to a liquid it is metered through a small orifice. There are fixed metering devices called a "piston" or there are "txv" metering devices that are adaptable. So they will be able to make up for under or over charge systems alittle bit. And they can actually adjust when it is required for more or less cooling capacity. So if you have a txv in theory if it required it to open all the way sayinf it was really really hot and humid if it was undercharged it could then freeze up trying to keep up with the exessive heat and humidity.
-
3 pointssigh.... when are people going to learn honda atvs are not boats ..... lol!
-
3 pointsSorry guys. Was at disney world with the family all last week. Just got home yesterday and have been in recovery mode lol. Ice on the indoor (evap) coil can be caused by just a few things. Low refrigerant charge/ excessively clogged air filter or air flow restriction of any kind/ or it can happen of the condensate drain clogs. I have had condensate drains clog and un-clog themselves before. But i would bet you are getting lower on refrigerant charge. If you have a txv metering device on your system it is possible to continue to work again for short periods of time or until it gets really hot and humid again and not be able to keep up. My .02

3 pointsI thought you were going towards “we’re building a kegerator out of the old one”
-
3 pointsI understand that. Prices are just ridiculous lately. We are going over our expenses and tightening up our spending. At least I haven't seen a big increase in Glenlivit.😉
-
3 pointsI really should refrain from answering because we never use our central air. I'm too much of a tightwad😳😉. JK. Our house is shaded most of the time on a north facing hill so we get the cool breezes coming off the woods behind us. We do run a 6000 btu window unit in the bedroom. What's the saying? When the weather is hot and sticky is no time for dunking dickie but when the frost is upon the pumpkin tis the time for dickie dunking. 😁

3 pointsGood day! One of our hunting party just bought a new fridge and will be bringing the old one to the hunt cabin. This means we don't have to keep all of our perishables in coolers. Keeping it in coolers didn't kill us, but it will be more convenient to put it in a fridge.

2 pointshad something odd happen. i lost ac and air flow from the exchanger (blower / circulating fan) the a/c unit runs fine, but the evap iced over... so i cut the unit off, and left the blower fan on to defrost the evap .... now it's working fine, i just replaced intake filter, and i haven't had any issues till now no doors or windows open, at least not that i know of.... I've went and checked over everything i could ... and can't find a reason why the unit would ice over, the air coming from the vents smells like the inside of a freezer, so i still have the unit off, with just the blower fan running... and the drain is clear, @SlammedRanger any ideas to why this would happen in just a few hours ? I've seen this happen with cabbed equipment.... but not on a house central heat and air system.

2 pointsuh hu..... i hear you, your most likely in better shape then most of us .... lol!.... if i had to guess your issue might be over work... i recall very well those days of burning the candle at both ends..... and i miss those days, maybe what i have now is a slow steady flame.

2 pointsI could use pics. I keep telling myself "Don't go in the gumbo unless there's a tree close by" but I'm stupid and forget that I told myself that, so I get stuck in the middle of nothing and have to call someone to pull me out. TWICE this has happened in the last week. And that's with no rain for almost two months....... Raw talent to get stuck in the middle of a drought.
-
2 pointsThat's a good idea! I'm not normally in an area where that kind of surface is around (enough) but I can see the application of it. I'll have to keep it in mind.
-
2 pointsI just had to replace one as well. 11 years old. My grandfather installed three phase for his shop and thus had a three phase unit on the house. My AC guy said it would be January at the earliest before he could get me a three phase unit. Wait for a compressor was six weeks with no warranty and was about $1300. New single phase unit was $2800, kept my old air handler. I have an 80 year old AC guy here who is a whiz. I asked him if I had to change everything out with the new Freon and he laughed and said no. New unit works fine. Old one croaked the Thursday before July 4th
-
2 pointsi checked the breakers and fuses... all good, but i sure am baffled, i wish i had taken a few pics of the ice built up on the line going into the house, it had to be ice a 1/8 to an 1/4 inch thick, i just hope the compressor wasn't damaged, it's just plain hard to keep a check on everything all the time, but hopefully... i caught this issue in time, and it's now on my list of things to watch over.... which now has to be about a mile long.... sigh lol!
-
2 pointshaha! I'm a tightwad to why i ended up with vast fortune ... yeah right.... in my dreams .... sigh.... i have plenty of shade trees, but with a house just a hair under 5000 square feet... (only cool the down stairs) I'm sure that has something to do with the unit going abit nuts on me... but i have temp gauges all over.. and the upstairs never gets higher the 82, plus the attick fans help suck out the heat, running two a/c units would be about 400-500 a month 800 plus in the winter, that's why i had the furness installed, by far the best money (well likely ) i ever spent.... i know one thing, I've got to trim my budget more now then ever..... I'm seeing more $$$ going out then coming in... can't win for loosing.... lol!
-
2 pointsi did think of that but it's back on and running perfect... the inside humidity is 37% cycles off and on like normal.... nice and cold.... i did have another motive behind this, where the heck is slammedranger!
-
2 pointsLow refrigerant can cause this. Or so I've been told. I would think excess humidity it the air would cause the evaporator coil to ice up too. Like waiting until conditions in the home are unbearable before turning on the AC.
-
2 pointsWe tend to ride 1/4 mile, then sit and BS and drink beer for 30-45 mins. Gone all day, probably don't actually ride 4-5 miles LOL
-
2 pointsmost of the above stays stocked on my bikes, not alcohol <<< that can sometimes produce a need for all those other items ;)
-
2 pointsWhat about a First Aid kit along with all the other stuff mentioned, plus a good light🙂
-
2 pointsI ride a Honda. It's the other makes my tool kit is designed for. Various straps, ropes and shackles usually drags 'em home when they break down.😉
-
2 pointsCooler full of beer in case we cross paths and want to sit next to the path and chat (we will want to do this).

1 pointI recently picked this quad up and upon inspection found it had some unique custom work. I'll post some pics of the most obvious mods and see what you think. I'm still laughing at what I'm finding as I tear down further. The 1st picture is the custom table cloth seat cover. 2nd is the custom pull start. 3rd is what seems to be the battery box. 4th and well my favorite, custom battery relocation and filter delete. Guess they figured it needed more minerals or just increased air flow. Did you happen to see the custom battery connector? Priceless! Not to mention all the wood screws holding plastics and some red lights installed in the frame. And finally, for this discussion, tilt steering. The steering rod is bent back right at the top clamp almost resting on the tank. Now it does run and drive after ingesting large amounts of dirt. It does knock louder than the landlord on rent day though. They were asking 1500 and I handed them 800 and they accepted. The only reason I bought it was because I knew parts were available and fairly cheap. What do you think? Good or bad deal. RKDad

1 pointJust remember, the Colt is just a fancy expensive club if you don't have ammo😁 Another thing to consider is, if you get to that point you're not going to "Mad Max" it ie take on the world by yourself. Plan on being able to pick up some strays who likely haven't prepared as you have. You're going to have to have help to watch your back while you sleep. Of course, you better choose VERY carefully when allowing stupid people (who haven't prepared) into your fold. Luckily most of my buddies FINALLY got it over the last decades so I should have a pretty good group if it ever comes to that, which I hope it doesn't.
-
1 pointI'm going to give it my best. I've built plenty of motors in my day but this will be my first complete bike rebuild. RK
-
1 pointDon't waste your money at Harbor Freight , last year when my Dodge compressor went out I needed a new set of gauges , so bought a set from them , never made one complete fill with it , blew an o-ring on the fitting , took it back and got credit --- NAPA was where I got the one I have now from
-
1 pointNo car a/c's have what is called an accumulator. Probably spelled that wrong lol. But the theory behind that is when the rpm's are spinning super fast it doesnt just get like super crazy cold a/c. Since the compressor on a car is directly effected by engine rpm. A txv is an adjustable metering device. It meters the liquid refrigerant back into the condenser to turn back to a vapor.
-
1 pointWell here's progress so far. I got the case split and everything out. I have to admit, I thought the motor would've been in worse shape than it is. Bearings are all in great shape, most damage seems to be in the top end. Think I'm going to take cylinder to a local shop and have them hone it. I have a hunch it's beyond oem spec. If so I will keep it for when I put a bore kit in it. Sending out crank today for a refresh. The oil tank and cooler are next on the list. The tank was full of dirt and metal so I'm sure the cooler is packed. I used kerosene in the tank and it cleaned it right out. My ultra sonic cleaner isn't big enough to put he oil cooler in so I'll fill it with kerosene and let it sit then blow out and see how it works. RK

1 pointI would bet my last dollar the crank is completely fine. The blue on the rod is 100% normal. If there was no up and down play in the big end it would be good to go. Your knocking i would almost guarantee was a stretched timing chain. While you are doing this rebuild i suggest doing the crf450r timing chain upgrade. Requires no modification but is alot stronger then the factory chain. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up! I have alot of custom mods done to my quad aswell. But not that type of custom lol

1 pointCarb kit showed up and had a tiny slit in the front of the package and the float needle was gone. 😐
-
1 pointShe done. This thread helped a ton. It helped with the particulars of a rookie putting it back together. Appreciate the thread. @shadetree @Fishfiles @toodeep Thanks guys 65334690922__9DCF01BC-6668-4AFC-81B0-06B8A0947193.MOV

1 pointWhat a fun nite we had! I’m away all set up for couple weeks Elk hunting. Can’t pull trigger till opening day on 17th. So we went scouting etc yesterday. Came back in the evening & had few adult wobbly pops. My buddy owns a new to him 97’ 400 with my 300 oem carb on it. He was poking the bear saying how bad his would beat mine in a race, as I have spent more $$ on mine than a new Rubicon 500. So as U see in the pics it was from camp to the tree line & back. We ran three times. Twice I was in 2wd & once locked up in 4wd. I made his 400 look stupid !. Then… to top it off I was trying to pull a tree out for firewood. I couldn’t drag it out even locked up. He razzing again & said his 400 would pull it out… DARN!! Our first nite here & he pulled for all his quad was worth & either blew rear end or u-joint. She was spinning in 4wd wide open throttle & BOOM something greneded!!! Only has fwd now!! So Moral if the story is…a fully built ATV will WIN! Bahahaha. Sorry I have no video!
-
1 pointwheeler if you ever choose to sell that 300 plus beast.... contact me 1st!!! lol! do tell me you won something out that drag race other then rights to do the repairs on his.
-
1 pointI may need a front case(engine) if the JB Weld doesn't hold on the crack in the bottom. Oil drips out. Doesn't seem to be under pressure. 2000 TRX450ES
-
1 pointYup! When we get home, & tear it apart to see what broke, I’ll surely help him out! Haha.

1 pointI honestly don't know that much about it. Regular "wild millet" will shatter and come back every year. Japanese Millet apparently is an annual, so it's one and done. But Japanese Millet grows and heads out very quickly, and the local Co-op had it, so I grabbed some. Figured next spring I can work earlier on the beavers and maybe get planting earlier. Really want to do wild millet and Pennsylvania Smartweed. Both will come back on their own year after year.
-
1 point@_Wilson_™ no it's just the rotation that happens. We've had dry times this summer and now we are in a wet time. But certainly nothing like happening in the Gulf area.....
-
1 pointyou shouldn't need any tools with such a new bike...ahem don't forget the go pro, for the videos! uh hu i couldn't agree more.... lol!
-
1 pointOh no select fire for me either. Just wastes ammo lol. My friend who just passed away (from the clot shot I suspect) had a lot of Class III stuff back when I was younger. Of course, that stuff is horribly expensive now, and he sold his to buy a lake house probably 20 years ago. The stuff was fun to shoot, but there are a lot of other things I would buy if I wanted "Ridiculously expensive toys with no real utility". Just feeding one now is cost prohibitive, not even bringing in the $xx,xxx price tag to get one and the NFA paperwork involved. The ban era stuff I was poking fun at are the "no flash hider, no bayonet lug" as if those make things mass killing machines. Stupid politicians.
-
1 pointAll of the above plus a Leatherman multi-tool knife, a roll of toilet paper stuffed inside a ziplock bag, gloves, a clean rag, bandages and tape and a long & strong tow rope to yank burning polaris' junkers out of my way. 🙂
-
1 pointDefinitely didn't have enough oil. It had about a quart in it when I drained it. The main cause was the dirt ingested. I was told they removed the filter because ridding through swamps it would get the filter wet and die. And they live on a dirt road to.
-
1 pointWell I can say you have a unique 400EX...lol Hey if it runs and drives I would say you did pretty well....always a plus..
