  1. you call them brakes bad ??..lol. those are clean compared to what i've seen on these models..lol.
  2. not sure how dealerships handle atvs/motorcycles over there where you are ?, but here in the states, most dealerships will not even touch/work on any thing 10 yrs or older !. why take it to them, and waste cash ??, that motor is really simple to fix, just ask bcs !. do the tear down, work yourself, you went and bought a compression tester, why stop there ???. you got the best atv mechanics right here at your finger tips...use it !.
  3. i do agree, if the oil filter was ever installed backwards at one time ?, yes..it will ruin the top end very fast !.
  4. update: well, after getting the top end back together, and trying to kick start the engine, it would not kick over right ?, hmm. i changed out the head to a trx250 head, trx300 cam, and trx300 rocker box, everything bolted right up, but still could not kick start it at all ?. pulled top end back down, discovered i had installed the valves in the wrong place, i thought that was my problem ?!. nope, all fixed. bolted back on, same thing with kick starting engine !!..wth ???. pulled clutch cover back off, looked at everything, seemed right ?, all back together, same issue ?. went to my buds place this morning, got all trx300 parts, all back together, SAME ISSUE !!. i was stumped ! ( enjoy this moment ..it dont happen very often !..lol ). it has to be on the clutch side, because this motor was kicking over just fine when i first got it running days ago. so, again, tore the clutch side back down once again, removed both clutches, after inspecting the change clutch carefully , it seemed that the friction disk were sticking, stuck, pinched ?, i took the clutch all the way down, washed it in my parts washer, air dried it with my compressor, back together, all bolted back in the engine, clutch cover all back on, flipped it right side up, got up, put foot on kick starter, felt right ?, gave it a good kick, it fired right up with out any issue on first kick !. FOR THE RECORD BOOK: yes, you can use a trx250 head, trx300 cam, trx300 rocker box, trx300 cam chain, and it would run !.
  5. please read this ---> How to set and adjust valves ( any 4 stroke motor ) We seem to be seeing alot of members joining..or already here ?..and buying..getting thier hands on ?..lol..an atv..then they ask us..ok..i bought..begged..barrowed my buddies atv ?!..lol..and now i need to adjust the valves...because it's making a loud tapping noise !..ok..maybe even a slight ticking noise ?..lol. well..the main thing i'm seeing..is when eveyone get's done with thier valve adjusting..then they come back and say..'' hey..i adjusted my valves..and not only is it louder now '' ?..but it won't even start '' !. ok..well..this is simple folks..when you did your valve adjusting ?..and you thought you had your piston on top dead center ?..you more than likely had the piston on top dead center on the exhaust stroke !!. and now your asking me..how do i know the difference ????..right ???..lol. simple..this is a golden rule i learned many..many moons ago !!..( and yes..if you searched alittle..this has been covered many times here ! )..when you think you have the piston on the compression stroke to set the valves ??..do this...turn the crank backwards..as your doing this..watch the intake valves...if they start to move any when you are turning the crank ?..then turn the crank back the other way...until you see the index on the flywheel line back up where you first had it..then set your valves. iffffffffff..for some reason when you start to turn the crank backwards from where you first started..and the intake valves never moves at all ??..then turn the crank back to where you first started on the index...then keep turning it all the way around..until that same index line ..lines back up inside the case and flywheel...now your piston is on TDC on the compression storke !. again..always...always turn the crank backwards from when you first start..if the intake valves start to move when you do this ?..then you had it right to begin with..just turn the crank back the other way..until your index is back on the line/marks..set your valves..button everything back up..all done !. ifffff they never move ?..then you go back to the index..keep turning..all the way around..index lines up..piston is on TDC..set the valves..button it up..all done !. added : seems I forgot how to tell you to turn the crank backwards ? ( sorry..i'm old..and thank you.. to a member here for pointing this out that I left this part out here ). if you have a pull starter rope ?, remove the pull starter rope cover, now you can use the 17mm center bolt with a 17mm ratchet and socket to turn the crank backwards .
  6. ok, the oil filter i posted IS NOT the oil filter i pulled from motor !, the filter that i removed from motor WAS installed facing the correct way. the oil filter i posted ^^^, was brand new, removed from the package i got from my bud. wanna use rtv sealant ?, be my guess !, me ?, i'm using yamabond/hondabond.
  7. please make sure you put the T mark for the timing , WHEN ONLY ON COMPRESSION STROKE !. then set / check valves adjustment.
  8. yep..package said honda on bag, but it was made in ti-land !!..lol.
  9. and what is the compression reading ?, don't assume its ok !!!, do a compression test, you need at least a min of 100 psi to run. once again, if it wont hit off starting fluid ?, then this tells me the timing is off ?, of not enough compression ?.
  10. here's one for ya'll !, oil filter, can you see whats wrong ?.
  11. nooooooo, i dug a lot of it out of the head and rocker box when i removed the rocker box, prob half a tube inside the head ?.
  12. is kill switch in center position ?, with spark plug in spark plug boot, lay it on the engine, crank it over, got spark ?, if yes ?, then its narrowed down to fuel issue ?, or timing ?. if you had spark ?, shoot a short burst of starting fluid into the back of carb, it should '' hit '' ( run for a sec or two ), then this tells me its narrowed down to a fuel issue. if it dont '' hit when you do this ?, then this tells me you have a timing issue ?, or not enough compression ?. one last thing..is it cranking over pretty fast ?, or slow ?. battery fully charged ?.
  13. be sure to check, double check, triple check to MAKE SURE ALL BOLTS ARE OUT FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE CENTER CASES !!!!. DONT FORGET TO LAY THE CENTER CASES DOWN, WITH OUTPUT SHAFT ON BOTTOM !!.
  14. as you can see, this is whats left of a '90 trx300fw top end, red rtv sealant was gobbed all under rocker box !!!..DONT USE THIS CRAP !!!!. IF HONDA WANTED IT ON THERE ?, THEN THEY WOULD PUT IT ON THERE FROM THE FACTORY !!!!, USE HONDABOND OR YAMABOND..STAY THE FREAK AWAY FROM RTV SEALANT ON ANY MOTOR PART FOR ATVS !!!!.

  17. run a check list from the service manual, start ohm'ing parts out, change spark plug with new, check all connections to see if they are tight and clean ?, check all fuses !.
  18. sounds like a bad ecu/ecm/c.d.i. , bad stator ?, bad reg/rec ?. all parts oem from honda on it now ?, or was parts purchased from ebay or amazon ?, DON'T BUY CHINA JUNK PARTS !.

  20. 560 mile round trip is not even a drop in the bucket from the miles i've racked up over the years !. longest round trip i ever did was to jacksonville,fl and back in the same trip..but i was beat when i got home..lol. enjoy that bulls eye..opss i mean can't am..opss again..can am !..rofl.
