  1. Yep. Everything I have gotten from 1080 has been a stellar deal and worked flawlessly. The brake master cylinder for example was still bled and took-off working immediately. I apologize if I am misreading tone through the internet. That can happen but... Don't care for the question or it's phrasing. Implication is that I have started a bunch of stuff and not completed them. True to a point which is why it bothers me but I don't post every project to the forum or talk about every time someone has me change an air filter or their oil... this stuff takes time... if you are itching for a project just buy something super cheap and start wrenching. It really is great time spent and at the end you have an heirloom Honda for sale or keep. Here are a few of my semi-recent completed projects. We are riding the non-running XR80 and I am also getting really close on the 450r. https://atvhonda.com/topic/833-another-light-restoration-on-a-1996-polaris-425/ https://atvhonda.com/topic/815-light-restoration-on-a-2007-arctic-cat-650/ https://atvhonda.com/topic/856-restoration-08-rancher-420-es-efi/ I do appreciate your input, suggestions, thoughts etc but this hit my ear(eye) really wrong. Edit: Please take it to PM if you would like to discuss anything further To bring it back around... 2. No worries here. I am of the mindset that we should have a "dislike", "heartbroken" and a few more to make it more clear. Shade would wear out a "wrong" reaction lol Do see the simplicity argument though and don't see any overall problem with some internet points getting taken back if someone makes a post others don't like. I don't like how "sad" is currently used as "dislike". Sad should be a neutral emote or positive and "dislike" or "wrong" should be a "take away his internet points" sort of deal IMO
  3. To elaborate further on what I said above the ultrasonic cleaner is filled with a weak acid solution and degreaser. It cuts a lot of the rust off with acid and the cavitation like effect that the ultrasonic produces. Orange ZEP is a good commercial version of a solution you can make yourself. Citric acid is your active ingredient. What we are doing is stripping the metal of any oxides and then immediately introducing it to a hot and oil saturated environment to cure and for somewhat of a coating to form. That is where the black color came from. In a jar with WD and fresh motor oil they sat in ultrasonic hot bath again for 90 minutes. The finish that you see in the picture is the result of that process. Hot bluing is the best way to do this. If you want black metal parts that is the only way to go unless you are talking paint, powdercoat or cerakote Ill double down and say again that it looks better in the picture than in person. It is not perfect in the slightest. A great way to perfectly clean and semi-polish bolts is a vibratory tumbler filled with stones, ground glass and orange ZEP. It takes a while but they come out looking better than factory if you are going for a semi polished look. I don't have a plan for these bolts and the ultrasonic was already setup for doing other stuff so I just ran with it. There are better ways...
  4. I was born on that creek-bank my friend. I think you floated it a few times yourself... 😂 I'll tell you what... if the 1st is out. I'll bring it down to LR and let you show me how its done.
  5. I already told you! Now who needs the picture drawn for them???? How much do I collect and when? 🤣
  6. I'll have to take those odds lol Keep in mind that this bike was ridden on hard pack roads most if it's life so the 1st gear was hardly ever used. I know that doesn't mean it's good but hopefully anyway We will see soon. Clutch parts are in
  7. Just a quick update for you all... No real progress on the engine front. Have received all needed parts and am getting ready to pull it in and do the clutch, starter gear, water pump seals. Gave it a quick rinse and wanted to share a few shots of that. There are also two pictures that show in-process plastic restoration on this machine. It gets worse before it gets better on plastic! One is before any thing and other is during the process... Thank you for looking!
  8. Here are a few more shots... The exhaust after cleaning, the "burnt" pile and some plastics being refinished. On this plastic I grind off the old burnt stuff, prep surface, adhesion promoter, plastic bondo, sand, primer and paint. Just getting started with that process and may not make it that far with this project. Thank for for looking!
  9. Yes and a "sad" rating takes away one point? Does "confused" as well? Not sure just going off observation... Edit: Also if a post is deleted the reactions associated with the post would too I believe. Retro can clarify...
  10. Found this awesome video from a Spyder legend shot at the BRP training facility...
  11. No but that product does work... Ultrasonic first than put into a jar of oil and WD then heated and ultrasonic overnight. Arguably looks better in picture than in person but the method I described does help a bit.
  12. 250 > Recon for your purposes IMO Fun factor can not be discounted when you are talking about having kids on it. They are both rock solid. 250 will arguably hold its value better as well... For anything utility you have the Rubicon but either are great bikes.
  13. Well you have no excuse now Mr.Bachelor lol Come up sometime and ride my 400ex. It is mostly stock and pre-scuffed so no worries there. It is your foreman but with lighter frame, different shock travel, power delivery, gearing... basically the same bike! Great and easy to ride trails/backroads here. AirBnB cabins are cheap too if you wanted to make a weekend out of it. Fall colors here are some of the most beautiful things I have seen anywhere... Any other of the forum guys wanna come sometime and ride just let me know!
  14. Aww... That was it. You said it 😔 Yep. "Go Go Go" may have looked like a joke but it wasn't. Go put cash in hand if you want something. Lesson hard learned many times for me You are too close to not come up someday and ride quads. We have some pretty country up here... My pair of Honda metropolitans would also be fun for a day if you and the wife wanted to see the fall colors some day soon.
  15. 300ex has normal clutch. Great machines but underpowered for what they are... a go fast machine. Not great for newer riders compared to the 250x due to no stalling and 400ex absolutely eats it's lunch in every way. Can you PM the listing and/or some pictures? I may know a buyer.
  16. Right side case is what you meant originally not right side lever. You just said right side and I took that as lever. My misunderstanding. If you don't like the sport clutch you can literally just take off (or ignore) the lever and ride it like a recon. Basically a recon with different body and that one change. Don't you ride motorcycles? I bet you'd fall right into the sport clutch...
  17. No one ever puts stock tires back on IME. Those are the originals I would bet. They are going to become better by spending time with you. When I was a kid... they would have pried me away from your house with something large I know the younger ones need a bit more encouragement to do... anything. You have a great encouragement right there lol Clutch is on the left, front brake on the right, rear on the right foot and shifter on the left foot like normal. Not sure what you were picturing lol Come up and give it a shot sometime. You and Ms.Tree can borrow one of mine and just take off... see how they sit... 🤣
  18. It has a "sport clutch" Basically Honda laid the golden goose and then just left it. No offence to the 250x in the slightest. It works just like a normal utility with centrifugal clutches and clutch activated by shifter configuration but adds a lever to pull the manual clutches if wanted. Meaning that the bike wont stall in any gear but you can use the clutch just like a normal sport bike. The downside is that you don't get the normal "click" out of the shifter that most sport people are looking for. It takes way more travel of the foot to accomplish shifting gears compared to a traditional clutch and transmission setup. Just my opinion but I think that is why it never took off. I want it in the 400ex platform so badly for trail type riding. Imagine a 500 Foreman with manual clutch 🤤
  19. You have some lucky grandkids! Those are original tires on it if you couldn't tell from the picture.
  20. Well there ya go. You were technically correct! (The best kind of correct) I don't think anyone is surprised. I will still update with my findings. Not much for street stuff with the exception of scooters. Have owned a few and kept my motorcycle endorsement but have nothing currently. All my street stuff either came with title or was purchased new to the best of my memory. Thanks for the clarification.
  21. Go Go Go! 😂 That's a bit expensive but it's worth it. Great machine! Honda's "sport clutch" is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Can not stall but has clutch. Just like normal utility if you could pull in the clutch too A few months ago (when I was looking) I would have bought this...
  22. Man those cases look great. Is that oven cleaner and wire wheel? Only problem is now everything else looks so good the fins are standing out 😂 Aside from blasting and acid I have never found anything good for that
  23. This essentially sums up the spider forums in two easy pictures. Thanks for looking!
