Problem was actually the starter and solenoid. Ended up replacing both. Once again PSN came in clutch with the oem solenoid for $7. Atv fires up first crank almost every time now.

Glad you got it sorted! Always glad to help out! I would suggest against using gasket maker on the center case gasket. If it leaks down road its a long road to fixing it from that point. Also since the 400ex is designed to have a gasket it is required for proper spacing in the transmission gears and shafts. Some quads use gasket maker from the factory and are designed to not have a gasket and in that case it would be 100% ok. But sadly not in this case. I have used hondabond on side covers in a pinch and had no problem. My .02

Wow just read the whole transmission section in the manual step my step ( ignoring the diagram) turns out that all the gears were on the wrong side.. i should of payed way more attention haha. Everything fits nice and good together now and shift properly without any binding. Thank alot for the help. Also i rip my new gasket by accident is it possible to use gasket maker by chance? And if yes is there a specific type i should use?

Baxk at it tonight. Compression still low 125 psi tonight. Tried to leak test but its not being helpful. Had a buddy help hold the crank. Leaking 5 psi less than my gauge and i can hear air. Can.t quite locate it. At 90 psi it was leaking intake and exhaust. My valve lash checjed out loose so perhaps carbon on valves. Heads coming off. No leakage at crank vent, and if you dont hold on at 50 psi the piston will rotate. Thinking rings are fine? Guess i.ll know more one head is off. So. Gasket kit recommendation? And viton valve seals any good? Vlv cover was removed tonight. Tomorrow clutch cover and start at cam chain. This weekend head cleaning and lapping. Still not sure where i.m hearing leakage at head wven at 5 psi, nothing at vent and sounds almost like head gasket. We held it for 5 minutes at 90, checked to make sure rockers were loose and still had play. Thing runs great, or at least did before i touched it. More to come

tells me the starter is bad. either worn brushes ?, or bad armature ?, either way, the starter needs to be replaced, for what starter brushes cost ?, its easier, faster just to buy a starter from D&B electrical, be done with it.

if your starter is bad ?, D&B electrical is my go-too choice for after market starters, i've had great success with them over the years.

Today was one of the hardest days in my life. I stared into her eyes & held her while she passed on my living room floor. She was my best friend with such unforgiving love…

I wasn’t wrong… Wife & I been crying on & off all day. We have a vet coming to our house this Sunday. Cremation lined up after. Our baby girl is 2 months shy of her 12th birthday. Her mind, smell, sight, hearing ect all good. But her hips are done. She can’t get up & around to pee ect anymore. Hardest decision we have had to EVER make. Especially since her mind still all good. Been a rough day. Tomorrow we will will spend lol day with her & SPOIL THE SIHIT OUT IF HER!!!
