  1. just a 17mm socket will work.
  2. this tells me the cylinder is worn, piston '' rubbing '' on that side. i hope the piston did not hit valve, and bend it ?.
  3. ehhh..why are you quoting me ?..i know all rods are that way !..lol.
  4. wha ???..you dont use a torque wrench ???..omg !!!..rofl.
  5. looking at the side of the piston in this pic ^^, i am concerned about that one side at the top being '' burnt '' ??, why would one side be that way, and not all the way around the top edge ?, reason: rings ?, cylinder out of round ?, rod slop at wrist pin ?. now is the time to check the cylinder with the rings, and see what clearance you have on end gap ?.
  6. where is he in north central arkansas bro ?, if he's not to far from me ?, i'll go get it, bring it back to my house, then you can come here and get it.
  7. agreed with fish ^^^, do it yourself !.
  8. valve seat has nothing to do with it not smoking.
  9. you can't replace the valve seats, you have to replace the whole head !..lol.
  10. chain will slap from a cold start.
  11. haha..i buy used ( basket cases )..cuz i love not having payments !..lol.
  12. thing is..if the valves were/are loose ?, then it would make the tapping sound from a dead cold start..not when it warms up !. i'll bank on this !. so if that mech charges you to adjust your valves, and it still does it ?, well..he does not know how to work on atvs !..lol.
  13. i cant say bro ?, i do not know where honda is getting parts these days anymore ?. years back, i knew they came from japan...not today !.
  14. oil weight has nothing to do with this, now...no oil ?, yeah..lol. but weight ?..no.
  15. its not a matter of them fixing it, because this was an issue with getting parts from '' unkown '' ( china !..lol ) sources !. the valve seats on the early trx350 ranchers were very bad about working out once they got warmed up, been there, done that..lol.
  16. just guessing ?, gonna go with a bad valve seat. reason: once the engine warms up, the valve seat works its way out of the head, common problem on the early trx350 ranchers.
  17. yes that cap can be replaced while the cam is still in place. yes, there is o-rings on the ends of the rocker shafts, WARNING !!, they are a royal pain to replace !. those long rods sticking down from the inside are pressed into the rocker box, making them very hard to get out in order to pull the rocker shafts. FORGET WHAT THE SERVICE MANUAL SAYS ON HOW TO GET THEM OUT !!, bunch of b.s. !. the best way i have learned ?, put them in a good solid bench vise, clamp down on them, rock the rocker box back an forth, sooner or later the rod will turn, when you get this far, try to be lifting up on the rocker box, a good rubber mallet smacked here and there will pop the rocker box up off the rod, then do the other the same way. DO NOT HEAT THE ROCKER BOX !.
  18. one cold brew to go please !..lol.
  19. all rod's are that color, thats from the factory when they temper them. what you need to do is use the wrist pin to check the play at the top, use the very end of wrist pin stuck into the top of rod, flush it to one side, lift up and push down on long end, and movement ?, if so ?, the rod is bad. then lift up and push down on whole rod, your checking for any play at bottom where it attaches to crank at the bottom bearing at crank. if you have to replace crank ?, the engine has to come out, and split to replace crank rod. power sports nation for a used crank, or check with mr crankshaft to have the rod replaced. if crank has to be replaced ?, you will need a complete engine gasket kit. tube of yamabond or hondabond, do not use rvt sealant to seal the rocker box !.
  20. this mean the check is in the mail ?..lol. glad ya got it !.
  21. oh, and those dents you speak of ^^ ?, those are made into the top of the piston from the factory, all oem pistons have those.
  22. from what i can see ^^ ?, looks like the piston to cylinder is out of spec ?, only way to test my theory is to remove the cylinder, remove the top ring, second ring, and slide them down in the cylinder to check end gap. over budget ?..ha !, you haven't even touched the surface yet when it comes to atv repairs !..lol.
  23. rofl, wait until you do it a few thousand times !..lol.
  24. correct, then i bet you will need to move the clip !..lol.
  25. anyone got a '87-'89 trx350D FOREMAN 4X4 muffler they wanna let go ?. can't be junk !..lol. ( '86 muffler will work also from a fourtrax ).
