Heres my wacky 450ES ECU a few days ago- a bit of a rant... Got a box of parts of old ebay 98-01 450ES leftovers and modules/harness etc that I wanted to sort and test out (trying to get organized-ha) I have a stripped down, running '99 450ES- out back that just needs to be put back together(sound familiar) perfect for testing odds and ends Shoved the carb into intake boot, ran a test tank and got it fired up and warm for a bit (not bad for 15 degrees) adjust idle, tested ES shifting etc, all was well Swapped out 3 cdi, all good-hooray!, a couple fan controls, 1 good 2 bad (gonna chuck em in the oven when wifes not around lol) 3 voltage regs, one was bad(no spark, shorted) 2 good- feeling good all is well and its starting to snow- yay I like snow Have 3 ECU, test one-all good, test the next one- engine wont start, shift buttons wont work, speedo shows a dash instead of N and both the Neutral light and Reverse light are on- ok must be bad ECU with all that craziness... Put the good ECU back in, same thing -great, did i just blow my good ECU? grrrr Follow logical no start troubleshooting and find that I have no spark now, check fuses, swap CDI, check coil-its good Spent a good deal of back and forth scratching my head and fumbling for a good hour I check the fuses a 3rd time, snow is ticking me off now....lol So on my THIRD fuse check (I was only checking the IGN fuse) I realized my fuse count was off because you know when you read the inside of the fuse cover it reads- SPARE-IGN-FAN-LIGHTS-....etc, well I noticed withhelp of a flashlight, the slot for the spare was empty and I was counting the IGN fuses as the SPARE and found that the ECU had indeed popped the IGN fuse Put original ECU back in put 10 amp fuse in and had spark now, started back up and all was normal again turned off, put questionable ECU in and quietly turned key on and you could hear fuse pop Pulled bad ECU, replaced fuse and put 3rd ECU in and all was good, shifting etc.. yay all is good, loving the snow again Felt stupid but was happy to find I had not smoked a good ECU.. So, an ECU can short internally and pop your IGN fuse-never seen it before and even crazier, when you pop or pull your IGN fuse, your gear position will read dashes ----, your shift buttons will not work AND your neutral light and reverse light will be on at the same time and you lose spark- lol Yes, I now have a spare 10 amp fuse back in place in the fuse blocks spare position, lesson learned Ever see the inside of an ES ECU? Think I am going to cut this one open and see if I can find what failed....

Really? It seems all backwards haha.. Thankyou. I trust your knowledge. Thanks

When both cam lobes are facing down while the "T" mark on the flywheel is lined up like you have done the piston is positioned correctly at Top Dead Center on the compression stroke. Your timing is spot on!
  5. 2 points
in other words..cam lobes with timing marks must face down in the head when you line up the marks.

yep, looks good to me..piston on top dead center ?.

Finally got around to cutting some firewood again! I got an emergency call on Thursday last to come take down an awkwardly dangerous tree that snapped and landed bang on a gate and post!🤦‍♂️ The whole tree was rotten in the core from bottom at least 40ft up. It also knocked an ash tree and 2 oak trees in it's path so I will be back another day or 2 in a few weekends time to finish chopping it. 42 inch bar flew through most of it, but I need to get the lower stem moved as the gate is sitting directly below it. I got a little welcomed help from the farmer to push it over, I knew the fence post would aid it falling as soon as it got a nudge, it snapped like a match stick!

It looks great Pip. It looks like you're ready to oil up the moving parts (poor a small amount of oil in the well where the cam lobes dip) and put the rocker cover on.

Okay so if the cam lobes are down then this will be the compression stroke? So cam lobes are down, timing marks on sprocket are aligned with head, T mark on flywheel is aligned. Is that correct?

I dont know how tall it is as top the snapped in half as it came down, but it was 70+ foot tall at least. It was a beech tree. They are known to fall unknowingly in Ireland, most beech trees that size here are rotten in the middle, it's a shame really as there is so much rot that isn't worth cutting up. The big stump on the right sitting on the gate will probably be shoved into the wood to rot, it's not worth cutting up.

you can get the piston on top dead center on both the compression stroke and exhaust stroke !. you want compression stroke !!.

Will mount these on the machine just to see what they look like then take them off and let them sit through the winter, will plow with the old factory rims and tires.

I saw a 300 2wd up here for sale a few weeks ago. It was tan. 1/8" hose might be able to be crammed over that 3.5 mm nipple. 1/8 is 3.175 mm. Good Luck!

I rebuilt a van years ago, valve job and chains, two, it had a balance shaft. All done and it had a rattle in the right front wheel area. I thought for sure it was a front wheel drive axle. That type of clacking rolling based sound. Taking off the hub cab I found the hub cap was two pieces, bolted or screwed together and all the screws were loose. Rattling hub cap, that's all. dc

The majority of it is rotten in the core, but the top section that landed in the wood is all good firewood, I reckon about 25 tons of it fell in total, getting it out will be time consuming so we are cutting it to lengths to pull it out quicker, then chopping them down smaller in the yard. It's a never ending chore!

no video ?, but i rebuilt a top end on a trx400fm years ago, started right up, then had the loudest knocking noise i've ever heard ?!. tore the head back off, seen the problem right off the bat !. some how ...do not know how or where from ???, a screw got sucked through the carb, into the intake, and got settled on top of the piston, and was getting hammered to death !!. so, word from the wise, when doing top end work ?, ALWAYS MAKE SURE ALL SCREWS ARE TIGHT ANY WHERE NEAR THE CARB..AND INSIDE THE CARB !..LOL.

my father used to be the same way till the arguing amongst friends got worse, then started the phone calls he's did this, or was here, i told my father this is your land, make the call, choose who you wish, that's when things changed, i did this to keep TWRA out of the picture, but sadly some of the hunters called them anyways, which just caused more anger between friends, sure sounds like your in jam chevy, as for his dogs, well, if they hadn't been there, it might not have happened, i would hate if a dog gets in a trap, but trapping is what it is, he does sound like a pr--k, lol. those kind of so called men, are mostly all mouth, and usually don't last long. what he should have done is acted like a man stayed off the property, and even if his dog tangled with a trap, just take it as it is, be a man about it, sadly this country has few of them left.
