I’ve spent over 10k on my 300 lol! TRUE STORY!

So that's why off road trucks are jacked up so high. Don't have to squat too low to unload 💩

Sounds like they just came loose which is very common. If you had the wrong axle or hub that would be very noticeable. Funny fact, Honda upgraded the 300 to the longer spline hubs to help with them not coming loose as often. In 07 they came out with the 420 Rancher and guess what hub they use on them... the first gen 300 hub that they chose to update back then.

OK guys, Got another write up for you guys! This one is how to do make and install an oil cooler on your trx300fw. Special thanks to @Wheeler for the core idea of this mod. OK, here we go __________________________________________________________ Tools: Hack saw Flathead screwdriver Pipe reamer Metal file Items: CB650 Oil cooler w/ hoses (other coolers should work similarly) OEM oil line from filter to rocker box Hose clamps/clips (2) sections of 3/8" oil cooler hose (2) sections of 1/4" hose (I used fuel injector) (2) 3/8" to 1/4" barbed adapter __________________________________________________________ Step 1) Cut the oil cooler hoses and the oil line. Be sure to ream the inside smooth, and file the outside. Flush any metal shaving out of the lines. Step 2) Attach the 3/8" hose to the metal lines of the oil cooler. Insert the 3/8" to 1/4" barb adapter into the 3/8" hose. Insert the 1/4" hose on to the 1/4" barb. Secure everything with hose clips/clamps. Step 3) Insist the OEM oil line into the 1/4" hose ends. Secure in place with hose clamps. * the 1/4" will be a loose fit so I used multiple clamps to be safe. Using 3/16" oil cooler hose would be a better option, but I could not find any locally, so I used fuel injector hosing in 1/4 as my next best option * Step 4) Install the feed line part of the radiator to the engine (above the filter housing), leave the return (on rocker box) un-bolted for now. Start engine and let it idle to pump oil into the radiator and flow out the return hose, then cut engine. (This should only take 15-20 seconds from starting the engine) ! Make sure to ensure oil is flowing out the return line before reinstalling onto the rocker box, else you risk blowing the engine from no oil flow ! One oil has filled the radiator, and you verify the pump is pushing it out the return hose, bolt the return line on to the rocker box. * Another option is if you have the tools, inject oil into the radiator system before hand * Step 5) Mount the radiator to the frame. I used plastics zips for test fitting (as seen in photo's), but for long term use and reliability I recommend doing metal wire or metal zip ties. @Wheeler produced his own bracket using U-bolts and L bracket metal. this would be another option. Run the engine again, and listen for any abnormal sounds (since we messed with oil feed systems). As it warms up, check the radiators temperature to ensure its warming up (signaling oil is flowing). Check all connections for leaks, especially around where the metal OEM line fits into the 1/4" hose held on my clamps (as that's the weakest link in the system) Step 6) Reinstall all external components __________________________________________________________ And that's it! Other than sourcing some of the parts (specifically for me the hose and barb adapter) this is an easy mod to do. I recommend buying a spare metal OEM oil line just in case something ever goes wrong, or you want to convert it back. Best use case for this mod would be BBK users (like @Wheeler) or for people who live in hot climates and what to keep their engine cooler. The mod does not do a a lot for making the riders comfort better (does not reduce hot leg syndrome) by much, but it will make your engine happier. If you do this mod, let me know how it goes for you and what you did differently! Hope it helps guys! ______________ Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damages to your equipment or vehicle, nor for injuries to yourself or others. Oh I don't have any intentions of going Wheeler with mine. I just plan on a 317 top end with a 54 or 62% GR and some 29.5's.

I was just sayin… yup Orvis a bbk & major mods will NOT be cheap like u said. I’m just half mental lol (Canadian costs are like over double the states though ug too!!:)

I spent the morning swapping tires off of an 87 350A Fourtrax so the owner could come get it. Long story, but guy moved to town a few years ago. Liked junk like I do, and had a son in my oldest daughter's class. He says he has a 350 that "just needs a top end" and wanted it fixed up for the boy. I told him to bring it by. So he does. Things been sitting with the top end off for God knows how long. I have other irons in the fire so don't jump right on it. Over time, I figure out this guy and his wife are horrible parents. They moved here, put their kids in private school, then wouldn't pay tuition. The kids are about to get booted and other parents step up and pay tuition for the kids out of pity (public schools here are terrible). At this point I'm thinking I'm going to rebuild this Foreman for this guy, and it's not going to the kid, it's gonna get sold off to support the mom's drug habit. I still tinker on it from time to time. Boy gets kicked out of school for pulling a knife on another kid. My daughter then said the parents were going to home school him, which is a joke. Last I saw of the boy, he'd pretty much turned feral. Doesn't live with the parents anymore, moved in with some druggies who were in their early 20's and has no future. Their daughter who is probably now in 8th gradeish has been showing up at high school parties and getting drunk for 2-3 years (so was getting wasted in 5th grade) and still has other people paying her tuition. In the meantime, Dad is driving around town pulling a new Ranger on a trailer behind his wife's Range Rover. In the meantime these people have maxxed out credit with every small business in town and aren't paying anyone anything. Anyhow, while I was at the beach last weekend he appears out of nowhere and starts loading up his Honda. Mom calls me and I said "nope, he needs to come back when I'm there" so Dad goes out and puts the brakes on that. I had a good set of wheels and tires on there so I could roll it around (originals were cracked/rotted/split and wouldn't hold air) and I wanted those, and I also didn't want him getting anything that wasn't his. So this morning I swapped some bald tires that hold air onto it, and collected the rest of his parts. His 87 was actually pretty nice. Plastics and racks were in great shape, and had nice floorboards. Even had a good trunk lid and kickstart/side covers. That "needs a top end" ended up being a huge crack in the bottom of the crankcase, which let the oil out, and I'm sure seized the engine. I put the cleaned up bottom back together with good cases and got the top end in place, but didn't get it completely buttoned up before I quit working on it, so he'll have some work to do to it to get it going. My guess is he'll flip it for cash ASAP. That said, I did have to get tires off of one of my 350 Carcasses, and I really need to get off my butt and get one of those going. I have several parts bikes around, and could easily have two runners. I also am picking up a 250A Fourtrax this weekend. Big ole local guy has it, and a while back he was on FB looking for a rear end. Someone sold him a 250SX rear end that needed bearings, and he was asking if someone would do the work locally. I told him I would put bearings in the SX rear and install it in exchange for his old 250A rear end (which needed bearings BADLY). Was pretty clean for a 250 at the time (couple of years ago) Anyhow, looks like the swingarm broke where it bolts up to the axle tube on the right side, and he wants something bigger, so asked if I wanted it. $400. Runs great, no smoke. Picking it up Saturday morning. Will plan on fixing it and keeping it for at least the time being.

I order from this guy. Have been buying my covers from him for years. They go on easily and look great. His feedback is kinda spotty lately but looks like it's more from the USPS delays than anything else. Lots of people saying they didn't get their covers and then Kent posts their tracking numbers showing they got them. Anyhow, these and an air stapler makes recovering a seat super easy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254887835414?hash=item3b587fb716:g:NFwAAOSwAO9ZRCzl

I’ve been looking for a small rear seat for a long time. Last nite I mentioned it to my buddy, & lone behold he had one I could have in his storage unit. Pretty fair trade considering I gave him a carb! I will have to get the seat redone with the snaps that hood it on, but much better for when the wife is in the back now!!!

You're a funny guy Fishfiles... I'll keep the pipe and eyelets in mind tho.

They have been making seats that slide into your hitch receiver for years. My wife says no I can't have one.🥺

You can get the TRX300 mount kits and cable for less than $50 but the heads are expensive. like $350 NIB. i had a complete unused Hondaline spotlight and a TRX350 speedometer kit NIB. Sold both to buy a Tikka T3x 7mm Remmie in Truetimber Strata. Got my Elk with it in January

this could be interpreted one of two ways.... when i 1st saw this i thought of carburetors....
  16. 1 point
It's a 350 rancher cylinder installed in the 300 fin section, so when (not if, but when) you need to do a rebuild, you order an oversized 350 Rancher piston and have the cylinder bored oversized. If you do any of the other big block kits you're looking at all custom stuff. It's about $400 last time I checked. Once you buy it, you can get replacement 350 Rancher pistons, and when the cylinder gets too far gone to bore, you can put in a new 350 Rancher sleeve and start over again. @Mac102004 at one time had stuff to put a 4 valve 350 Foreman top end on a 300 bottom end. Don't remember what all was involved but it was $$$$ and a lot of work.

I can tell you from experience , the cooler does practically nothing without the fan blowing thru the coils , and that is with double stacked coolers and relocated to unobstructed flow of air on top the rack I know this cause with the coolers relocated I can grab the upper hose with my hand while I am riding , untiI I hit the fan switch , there is very little cooling going on , then within seconds of turn the fan on , the hose gets cool

Back on topic, this was a great write up. The oil cooler mod works perfect. Cools the oil down, but only at speed really. I would mount the cooler solid to the frame though. & like mentioned a fan would totally compliment this mod!

300ex carb! thank you, i had been thinking about which sport carb you were running.

Well you can read my signature for my mod list 😛 Not even approaching 10k like yours, but hey, i do some stuff >.<
  22. 1 point
that doesn't shock me at all...wheeler. most likely that fastest 300 fourtrax here... lol! ram air works wanders for cooling an air cooled engine, eh ?
  23. 1 point
Well I bet its a beast and a ! of a lot "better" than mine. But.... I'm not putting 1/3 of my yearly income (before tax) into my near 30 year old ATV to pull some mulch around and plow in the winter 😛 I might consider the BBK when i need to do top end engine work though since id have to spend money regardless.
  24. 1 point
well, best of luck with the "big boy" build. I saw the cost of doing a BBK build and nearly s,h@,t myself (I got a price for a kit + the boring work at $800 before tax and shipping costs both ways). I would not need the extra HP as all I do is pull mulch and logs, and plow in the winter, so I will stay stock.
  25. 1 point
Ive always contemplated tossing a fan on mine!!
  26. 1 point
Fan for the oil cooler, not for the engine (idk if that was misunderstood) I never had overheating issues to begin with, so having an oil cooler already is reducing the chance of a non-existent problem for me, I deemed the fan unnecessary. Pretty much just that.

My calipers are made by wildwood but were sold as HL disc conversion. The pads I run are EBC
  28. 1 point
why would you think a fan is over kill when honda offered them as as option for that model ? just asking....
  29. 1 point
Well hope it helps in the long run. I'm sure your engine would be happy, even if no BBK is installed (like mine). I was considering a fan, but I think its a bit overkill given my engine is stock.

I have a feeling the girl's future is just as bleak. That's when i kinda pushed that 350 to the bottom of the list, when I figured out it wasn't for the kids.

That could be a Highlifter disc conversion kit , caliper made in the USA -----

I don't ether wheeler , just wanted to protect the my oem honda cover, many of the re covered seats that came to the shop looked really bad, and LJ was asked (while i was working up there) by customers would he recover them, he said he did not cover seats, because he was so busy, and no one else could do them right, if moose had a vinyl seat cover back when i got the fabric cover i would have gotten one of those, i reckon LJ just didn't want to do them.... hes funny about certain jobs.... lol!
  33. 1 point
It is so easy and cheap to reupholster a 300 seat , about $5 of material , well maybe a little more in the Great White North ---- cheap Harbor freight air stapler regulated to 80psi makes it quick and easy
  34. 1 point
No Wilson, to be honest I’ve never liked those. I figure if something happens to mine, I’ll just get it re covered again at the place I used before. That will be the spot I drop the back seat off to get re done.
  35. 1 point
I know exactly what I'd do after dropping a load. Pull forward and turn left dropping the LR tire in the hole I just filled with a steaming load.🙄
  36. 1 point
okayish setup...... but, where's the TP holder ???
  37. 1 point
good deal on the swop out! have you thought about getting a moose seat cover to protect that new seat cover you just updated ? and it's not nearly as sticky as those vinyl ? covers, i went with black fabric thats lined with vinyl i think ? or some type of water proofing ? but they make all kinds now, all camo, pure vinyl, camo and black... etc.... they just draw string tight, haven't jabbed a hole in the seat cover yet. (knock on wood)

My buddy corrected me.. I told him the same as I told u a all.. that I thought his quad was rode hard & put away wet… he asked how mine was the day I brought it home & put it in garage.. VALID point. It’s been used well over the last 24 years.

Got a new seal coming in tomorrow. And yah, I’ll pull the swing arm again. Talked with the guy at the service he said it wouldn’t hurt to but a bit extra sealant around the lip.. but not sure what kind. Any recommendations? permatex ultra black? Motoseal? Don’t think this is resistive against oil. actually.. nevermind the tech sheet says it is.
  41. 1 point
Well I believe they have too much play. The red loctite was still holding the nuts solid but play on the hubs. I re greased & hammered them down with the impact & re loctite. No play now, but I’ll have to get on the hunt for a good set of hubs.
  42. 1 point
That one isn't bad. I got a big Kolpin thing and it was just way too big, so I sold it and got another soft bag type. What kind is that?
  43. 1 point
Thanks for the clarification. Was looking at them last night when you mentioned you had 3. Looking at the RL-HM035L model. Seems to be the only one they offer now that operate of 12v with a battery for memory backup.

Duck hunting equipment , two boys and a fat a$$ is a BIG load >>>> sounds like you need a pipe with eyelets welded on both ends instead of a shock with 25 pounds more capacity --- LOL
  48. 1 point
So I finally broke down and got the Bronco shock on the rear. Easy replacement and advertised to add about 25 lbs more capacity than stock. Good thing cuz I've got a rack on the rear for duck hunting gear and it gets fat a$$ me and my two boys to our duck blind. My Foreman is a 2015 TRX500FM1 and the replaced shock was the original equipment. "Doesn't owe me anything" as my Dad liked to say.

If money is no issue and you want to go over board with the best , WORX makes some really nice shocks , nitrogen charged with or without an external accumulator -------- on the rear pic it is an external accumulator , the front shock pic is internal , and note the adjustment ring it has --------- if you have or get a nitrogen bottle , regulator , hose and fitting , you can fine tune it for your wants , needs and desires

Hi dadss, I have used the Bronco shocks as replacements before and they were all good. Happy holidays!
