i personally use castrol in all my own toys. little on the pricy side ?, but well worth it to me. some things you learn over time, by this i mean before you change oil, you have listened to your engine, after you change the oil, do you hear anything different ?, in my years of doing engine rebuilds, i have used my ears more than worry about how the atv/motorcycle runs in long run. so, with that said..use what oil you want ?..JUST MAKE SURE ITS WET CLUTCH APPROVED !.

welcome to the forums. the trx450es model ran from 1998 ( i think ? ) up until 2004 was the last year honda made the trx450.

sounds like starter brushes to me. D&B electrical sells great starters, i use them alot in the past yrs, never had a problem from them.

over time, through the years ( 30 of them now ) i learned a long time ago, all oem parts for honda atvs will NOT be listed where you think they should be ?..they will be listed in other area's.

yes, crank was totally shot, installed a brand new crank from honda, right now, this guy is down $ 596.02 in parts, not counting my $ 400.00 labor charge.

yeah..its a mess alright. nothing to fixing them, just takes time, and a lot of money !..lol.

paint holds pretty good, i normally use BBQ paint ?, but i ran out, and this is not mine, this is just a fixer upper to sell.

update: hey outlaws, sorry i have not updated this thread much ?, been very busy !. here is a few progress pics of where i am so far. i had to stop on this project, and started in on a 2016 trx420fm for someone, he sunk it, doing a full engine rebuild, a fast 400.00 bucks for me. anyway, here is some progress pics on this 2005 trx500fm for now. oh, and one pic of what is left of this 2016 trx420fm piston !..lol. yeah..you water and mud waters riders..keep doing what ya do ?..I LOVE MAKING MONEY !..LOL.

yeah...pretty much all honda's have those oil holes in the shafts.

if a valve is bent as you say ?, chances are..it smacked the top of the piston !. when this happens?, most times its because the cam chain is stretched , and allowed the valve to jump time, and hit piston. you can check the cam chain without tearing the motor apart.

was the engine oil changed lately ?, is the oil filter in backwards ???. from looking at the rockers and cam journals ^^, it looks like no oil was getting to the top end ?.

simple fix, been doing it for years, you are just getting late to the party..rofl. a small short piece of tubbing like fish tank air line ?, or do what i do, left over drops of zip ties, cut them short, bend them, cram it under the nut as you put the nut back in. it keeps the nut pressed up.works very well for me.
