haha..i found this out the hard way too !, anything rubber that gets wet by the parts washer, over time..will swell up !.

when my '' change engine oil '' notice flashes on my truck ( which is programed to come on every 3000 miles ) i change it as soon as i can ?, or when i have the money ?..lol.

change the oil and oil filter, make sure to not install the oil filter backwards !..lol.

if the shoe fits ?..wear it !..rofl.

and for the record ?, i'm now on my second trx500 that had a bad 1st gear, and jeep69 has done a couple himself, both of mine were 2005 models.

does not matter if it was road on sand, rubber...water ?!..first gear set , and the reverse gear is defective from the factory !. once you get it running ?, fire it up, shift it to 1st gear, hit the throttle, see if it jerks, clunks ?..if it does ?, then yes..1st set is trashed. then you can send me that bet'n money you lost !..rofl.

10 to 1, first gear set will be messed up ?!..lol. also, you better pray they did not strip out the oil drain plug ?, another defect from honda on this model.

you need to find neutral with the key off, forget what the display and green light says. if its going in reverse when you hit the throttle ?, then chances are, the shift drum has it in reverse. and the gear position switch is messed up, making the display and neutral light come on.

pic's do not show brake cover on, or brake cable ?, but its on there !..lol. i'll post more pic's after while, my foot/leg is killing me right now.

update: got one coat of paint on the frame ( ran out of gloss black, and not braving wally world today !..lol ), got some of the rear end together, foot brake pedal all cleaned up, greased, foot brake cable installed. taking a break right now. NO i am not done with painting, i will dress her up more when i get more gloss black :-).

update: after stopping on the engine build, i tore into the front a-arms, and sure enough, both upper and lower ball joints are shot..and i mean falling apart shot !..lol. the good news is, these were the last parts on the suspension that wears out !!. i think i've bought all new everything so far to replace front to back by now ?. only body work now that has to be tackled, and those parts will add up as well ( sigh ). but i'm not giving up the ship just yet !!!.

i did not take any pic's when i rebuilt the engine, its not listed anywhere, its at his house right now, i just finished it about 2 weeks ago, bored over, new top end, starts right up, shifts great, has some power for a atv , but i'm a light weight..lol. oh...and new cam chain.

no, not trying to break him, but i can tell you this !, when it comes to c.d.i.'s ?, unless they are discontinued ?, YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME BUY ANY USED C.D.I. REASON: electrical parts for the most part are non-refundable anywhere even new !!. so if i'm gonna risk it ?, i'll take my chances with a brand new c.d.i. from honda before i'll buy a used one off ebay.
