  1. many here say shindy carb rebuild kits ..... if you can't find an oem kit. just tossing in, i myself would go with a shindy too. but i would go with what retro said fuel tank then go from there. what's got me is the bike runs fine after it's running, ever see a gas puddle under the bike after it' sits for over night ?
  2. plus one ^^^^ also gives a history of the bike if the plug has been in a while ? , the fuel system, and engine are in great shape!

    Weather

joint pain is a sign of low pressure moving in, or a weather change due to low pressure, lot of the older people here including myself, haha! can tell when low pressure is here, my right shoulder goes to hurting. but i couldnt say what weather is moving just that the pressure is dropping. arthritis ... in the joints.... is one way, I'm sure there are other joint issues that do the same when atmospheric pressure changes.
  4. thank you! a back history if one can find out, is very helpfull sounds like the bike was well taken care, and like you say didnt have a hard life, and not tinkered with.
  5. glad to help. my friends is a later model side mount distributor, not a front mount like yours so had to get holt of a tractor guy who deals in very old models, and he told me where the timing adjustment is, but also said ... if yours ran before.... with a description of the steady rpm whether what direction the throttle lever was in sounded to him like a governor along with a carb issue, he recommended cleaning and rebuilding the carb, and checking the governor status.
  6. oh okay that explains alot, wow! 40 bikes, sure would like to have seen them, bet he had some really classic models.
  7. thats okay retro, thank for looking. i appreciate it very much! i masked and painted mine, so i can live with, i never use it anyway, lol.
  8. can you contact the previous owner, and find out more detail, like if the bike set up, had mice or rodent damage, if it was mudded, if anyone worked on the bike, added / made mods? just a genaral history ...
  9. yeah i over looked the fact yours sees extra deep water, and mud, and how many times have we seen mud caked oil coolers over the years ? too many to list. I recall my old 250a hot enough on the crankcase water would bounce right off, no telling what the jug, and head temps were, but... i never had an issue, but scalding water / steam burning my right leg. my mistake was selling it.
  10. eh, i know you are about mods , but i like the original kickstand, could you weld a cross over rod to the original just in front of the back tire, and have a wider stance stand, if nothing would be in the way on the other side ? (chain etc) and a chinia part ?? are you joining the ranks of Someone else we know ? lol

    Weather

just plain cold no snow.... 17 out this morning.... maybe a temp climbing to around 30... with overcast sky's not much chance of the sun coming out. sure is keeping the fire breathing dragon working.
  12. no, i don't guess they would do any harm, just caught my eye is all... nothing wrong with extra protection.
  13. this is where you adjust the timing on the front mount distributer (pic) but after going over all the information PM , and posted .... plus the looks of this screw and slide haven't been touched in a while, I'm falling back just a tad more to the governer , or governor rods being bent, (but i still would do all those the is above. checks 1st) you had mentioned it runs at around two grand with little change, when you work the throttle ... being it looks as tho it's been sitting a while.
  14. check this out, retro, some idiot put a hose clamp on my 97 before i got it, that just bothered me too much, so it had to go, thankfully that was the only issue it had when i got, well that and the font brakes, but she's been very faithful, no issues ..
  15. i could sware someone here had a set of those wheels... can't think of who it is / was.
  16. there should be a place (window) on the bell housing, lets go back a bit, and start over, is there any fire from the plugs ? right now I'm thinking electrical issue. if nothing about the timing has been changed, then the timing should be spec on, these old tractors were not known for giving much trouble. (no electronic junk very simple design) i see this one has been changed to 12 volt charging.... but still, just not enough detail yet, Ted, points would another thought. 1st need to find out if it has a spark, then will kick off with a short burst of starting fluid to the breather stack intake. check if the intake stack oil or bath filtering is blocked up by mud dobbers old wasp nest birds nest, etc.
  17. do i see zip ties in place ? guess that would work. instead of the rubber bands.
  18. the PM's i sent you show you how to adjust the timing, take a look at those, but those governer linkage rods should never be bent, what was it doing before anyone put there hands on it ? or better yet, when did happen, and what was the tractor being used for, plus has it set for a while, while ? looks as tho it has. and has anyone messed with the carb ?
  19. thank you both! , retro that pic was just what i needed to see (saved) i looked and looked for a video, even talked to a few .... no one ever had even thought about that switch except the joke about having in it the off position .. and trying to start the bike... lol.
  20. I'm not into the middle of that one, lol, but might i point out, most of your builds are reduction (low gear) so there's not going to be too much ram air to help cooling. i believe that's why the oil coolers, and fan relocates ?? i like the look of the checker plate just as is.
  21. thats was suppose to be @Fishfiles
  22. @retro did a post on how to get those off, sure he will chime in soon, but yes that hole under the switch, and your right they just snap into place, and very aggravating to get off, might i ask where you lucked up a new to you button ? I've been looking for a new one for a while, and had no luck.
