  1. find the vin number, stamped right in middle of frame, right behind the front bumper. from the looks of it, it looks like a '86 model.
  2. clean it out, put some fresh grease back in there, does not matter what you use ?, any ole grease will do, reason: the star wheels sit in there, i only grease the star wheel threads, and where they sit on the cylinder, down inside there is not a big deal.
  3. that white stuff is oem factory grease they put in there from the factory.
  4. glad ya got it fixed !.
  5. i would start with the oil pump, bearings don't lock up, cool that quick, and go again ?!, lack of oil is my guess.
  6. the ring i think ?, is suppose to be a wear indicator for when the lining on the drum is worn down too far ?. i've taken/cut them out, and left them out in the past, worthless in my book.
  7. welcome to our forums !.
  8. update: got the front fender on, front rack leg welded back on, installed that, front bumper bolted on, then dug in fixing ( making is more like it ! ) front fender flares. i decided to use the lower wide part of old splash guard, got the flares made, push pined on, i think it turned out pretty good !. started in on the fuel tank, oh man,,what a mess !, some one thought it was a good idea to use BONDO TO FILL RUSTED HOLES IN THE TANK ??!!!..OMG, how stupid can you get ????..lol. patched a couple area's with my '' seal all '', now to let that cure over night. all i like now is the front fender stays fish sent me, then i think ???..i'll be done !.
  9. and for removing old grips ?, remove the bar ends ( plastic piece ), take a thin screw driver, poke it in, and up under the grip end, stab it in, under the old grip as far as you can poke it, then use the straw type wd-40, stick it right in beside the screw driver, spray it in, pull screw driver, give the grip a good twist, off they slide !.
  10. i'm installing new oem grips right now on this '97 trx300fw project, will do them the same way i've done for almost 29 yrs, wd-40, slide on, call it a day...lol.
  11. nope, i dont use glue..no need for it, wd-40 will dissipate after a bit, grip wont spin, least mine never has ?.
  12. i don't use it anywhere on my engines, but i can tell you red is the strongest, blue is pretty common.
  13. yep: i take and spray the insides of he new grip with wd-40, then spray the bar, they slide right on :-).
  14. if the output/final shaft is different, then how will the gears all line up if you swap in the shafts from a 400 ?.
  15. haha..i already thought about putting 450 flares on it, but its not mine, and the rubber was handed to me..sooo...lol.
  16. pic is way too small to see it ^^^ ?. i dont go swapping motor parts, so i can't answer you if a 450 and 400 will swap out ?, perhaps check the case part numbers, see if they match ?, if they do ?, then its just a matter of getting the right tranny in one of them. personally, i would not touch a es, but this is me...lol. if i was gonna build one of them ?, i would go with the trx450, and convert it to a manual shift.
  17. when i replaced the flares on my '03 trx450fm, they were like 20 bucks each ?!..lol.
  18. i second the motion of getting it out, if it falls down into the gear oil, more than likely it will get drawn up, stick in the ring gear teeth, and it wont end very well !!!..lol.
  19. ty bro !. first pic ^^^, see that rubber stuff laying in the floor next to rear left tire ?, that !..lol. about 3/16 thick rubber, cut it with scissors !..lol.
  20. yeah, the prices for new flares are unreal !!. i still have to make front flares, thats gonna be fun !..lol.
  21. i can't wait until i make the front flares !..lol.
  22. on your way to jeeps, swing by here, i'll give ya the front fenders, they are for a foreman, but they will work the same :-).
