  1. Don't use any china parts. Buy OEM. If you can't afford new OEM, buy used OEM from someone like Powersportsnation that is a reputable used parts seller.
  2. I'll clean up the cables and try a different starter with new brushes. If that doesn't work I'll have to get another battery.
  3. Well I haven't even looked at the starter. I might have gotten a dud of a battery. I bought it new right after you finished the engine, so that would have been about a year ago.
  4. It's a newer battery, but it did sit for several months without being used. On a 300 with none of the computer crap on them they can usually sit a long time without draining the battery though. I'll try swapping on another starter. Not like I don't have parts bikes everywhere!
  5. I've been using a razor blade. I'm usually bleeding pretty good by the time I get a gasket removed. LOL
  6. Daughter hasn't ridden her 300 a lot since I finished it, but now she and her sister are old enough where I'm letting them putter around on them in the afternoons. Yesterday it wouldn't turn over. I hooked the battery to a charger and it showed charge after about 30 mins, so I checked the voltage and it was 12.43. It fired over and started. A while later I tried it and it sounded weak again. Put a voltmeter on the battery and it was still over 12V, but when I try to crank the wheeler it drops to 3-4 volts. Is that normal, do I have a starter going south, or does this battery have a dead cell?
  7. Hook your + cable to the battery. Now take a test light and hook the alligator clip to the - wire, and put the probe on the - battery terminal. If you have a drain the light will come on. If it does, start unplugging things one at a time until the light goes out. There's your drain.
  8. Sucks that we toss entire appliances now because they cheapen them on the front end and make them where it's not cost effective to fix them.
  9. Aw man, you got the perfect age there. Enjoy her. Everybody says they drift away when they're teens, but they come back around once they're grown. They're fun at that age. You have a lot of time to spend with her before the hormones kick in!
  10. And to top it all off, after a vasectomy in 2005 after girl number 2, I remarried in 2014, had a vasectomy reversal that failed, then another one that took, so I got girl number THREE in July of last year. I'm a glutton for punishment. Live in a house with 4 women now. LOL
  11. There is nothing I can say that will prepare you for what is coming. Just enjoy the time you have now. LOL
  12. Welcome aboard, and thanks for the pics. We like pics!
  13. Awesome! Welcome aboard Brian! Are you still working on the Hondamatics?
  14. Good Dad. Spend as much time with her as you can! I got custody of these two in 2009. They were 4 and 5 at the time. Now they're 15 and 16.

When Paulie was there it was awesome. If I did a big enough order (with no oversized items) he'd ship it free, and he always kept me up to date as far as when my stuff would come in and ship (and would be honest with me about it). They wouldn't pay him so he moved on.
  16. What brand bearings were the bad ones, and the good ones? Might have gotten out an of spec bearing. Might have gotten the wrong bearing altogether.

Most of these outfits don't stock a lot of parts. They order from Honda every few days and whatever you order comes to them as part of their big order, then they send on to you. I got that info from Paulie when I was buying tons of stuff from him at Honda East Toledo. He said they didn't stock much of anything except very common parts they always needed in their shop.
  18. You don't want your Honda to say Yamaha though! Joking... I buy used OEM master cylinders on ebay. Cheap and you know they're good quality. Unless they're marked as "for parts or not working" if you get a bad one you can get your money back.
  19. Those tan fenders are painted? Must not have been ridden much. Where I ride (narrow trails) plastics get scratched up pretty quickly. Any painted plastics look bad in pretty short order. That 300 is definitely different. I like green or tan, but I sit on mine duck hunting so can't get too flashy with them.
  20. OOOH, a tan one. I like the tan Hondas!
  21. I wanted to see pics of the parts after got all the rust, moss, and Covid 19 off of them! LOL. They were some rough parts. Hope they cleaned up ok.
  22. If the cable is in good shape the bearings and seals you can get cheap on ebay. I have one for a 300 that I cleaned up and put new bearings and seals in, and just reused the old cable. Works fine.
  23. Welcome to the forum. 424 can be rebuilt with a kit, and even if you don't want to use it you could always sell it. Several guys here with 450's who can help you out!
  24. Also had a front diff. Forgot to mention that. Any suggestions ot working that dent out of the tank? Inside actually looked good on it.
  25. Got this from a local kid this morning. He sent me a message about it a few weeks ago, asking if I was interested, and I said no. Then he listed it on FB for $100 OBO so I offered him $80 and went and picked it up. It's a 97 4wd 300 frame with a-arms, shocks, swingarm, and wiring harness (missing CDI), engine (locked up), good muffler, dented tank that is clean inside. Also has 3 decent stock tires and one crap tire on a set of stock wheels (not pictured). One CV looks good, the other the boot is all twisted up so I'm assuming it's bad. I needed a muffler, so figured the rest was gravy. LOL I was outside on the patio talking to @SamUK on the phone yesterday and said "Don't tell the wife, but I just bought another 300 parts bike". I walked in the house and she says "What is he "not supposed to tell the wife"? I swear that woman has superpowers when it comes to hearing things I don't want her to hear.🤣
