  1. Well part of me thinks that blasting media into a seam can't be a good thing, but then again we use 3000PSI pressure washers on these things so can media blasting really be worse?
  2. Three Bond 1184 works great too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TWXI1K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. I saw a guy on a Rincon board on FB who used a harbor freight soda blaster. Made the engine look like new. The soda was mild enough where he did the vent lines, fuel hoses etc too. I think I'd be hesitant to try it on a finished motor right off. I've thought about trying it on a motor before I tear it down for a rebuild. That way I can look and see if the soda does any harm or gets in anywhere.
  4. The 300 did great. Fun little rig with the 424, 420 discs up front, and of course, the @shadetree engine build. I do think it needs an 18% gear reduction. I'm running 26" Mudlite XL's on Rubicon wheels (skinny front, wide rears) and I had to downshift a little more than I thought I should to get through some low spots.
  5. Got the daughter's 350 buttoned up this weekend. Rode fine going up and down the street, but I'm going to need to do a little more of a shake down run with it before I let her take it out without me (she'll have to have her sister along if she goes out at all, neither of them will ride alone). Also got my sister's old 70's Honda ES3500 generator going with a ton of help from @retro. Mice got in the control box and built a nest, peed all over everything, which corroded everything to the point where the whole thing needed to be rewired. Retro did the rewire, sent it back to me, and I got it wired up and running. This is a HEAVY generator, especially given it's only a 3500. Specs here say it's 185lbs. https://www.wersis.net/honda/generators-e3500.html Anyhow, got it back together and working. Powered up our patio bug zapper just fine while I ran it dry to put it back up until it's needed. I did get a short ride yesterday morning on the other daughter's 300. There's been someone hunting on the farm less than a quarter mile from the house. I've had a couple of friends tell me in the last week, so yesterday one called and said the truck was back. I gave the baby to one of the teenagers, hopped on the 300, and rode out there. Guy was sitting in his truck, wasn't happy that I ran him off. I took pics of his tags and told him if he came back I was calling the sheriff. When I was younger we used to let people hunt out there. There are about a dozen family members who own interest in the family farm, so what ended up happening was a ton of people hunting with permission from different family members. That in and of itself wasn't an issue, but then all of those people started trying to say that a certain area was "their area" and hounding the family to make other people to stop hunting "their" area. We ended up having constant ! from people who wanted it all to themselves, so the resolution was "Nobody hunts out there unless they're with a family member". Still have people show up like this guy, who said my great uncle told him he could hunt. The thing is, my uncle was asked 3 different times last week (when the truck started showing up out there) if he had told someone they could hunt, and he said no.
  6. Nothing like getting one all the way back together and then having something off, and having to do it all over again. Been there, done that, got a whole shelf full of trophies from it!
  7. Yours does it. If it doesn’t you might check the wires on the microswitches on your right brake lever.
  8. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Rancher-420-FPA-12-Regulator-31600-HP5-601-19525/303124833455?epid=1311838033&hash=item4693a5e4af:g:bJEAAOSw3SpcsPb-
  9. Depends on the part. I don’t use aftermarket carburetors on any Honda ATVs. All joints and tie rod ends are cheaper from Honda than the aftermarket stuff. Bearings are going to be a? For me when I run through my current stash. Other than OEM, Pivotworks were the only quality brand I found, and pivotworks has been bought out by all balls and are now the same junk China bearings that all balls sells
  10. I swapped a lot of parts from 05 to 11. Never had any issues with any of them working on various models. You could get dark blue plastics 05-06, black in 09, yellow 05 and 06, white in 08. Red and green every year, camo starting in either 07-08. Green seems to hold its look the best. Fading and scratches don’t seem to show up as bad on green as they do in other colors
  11. Exactly! This one got a new timing chain, new top end, new gaskets, updated 1st gear set, and new seals on the output shaft, crank (under pull start), shifter, and reverse pins. It was a nice, quiet running motor when I got through with it. I've run it a few miles to check things out and it seemed good to go. It just acted cold natured this morning and I was "CRAP!" Gotta turn the gas on....dummie.
  12. Hmmmmm. Did you get the impression that's it turned at all to the left? Wondering if shavings might have gotten in the threads and gummed up the works.
  13. I've bought a lot of stuff from them. Only bad parts I've gotten were a rear hub with a seal groove worn in it and a set of brake lines that were stopped up. In both cases they instantly refunded my money no questions asked. I need a few odds and ends. Have been waiting hoping they have a sale. If you get on their mailing list they will send you a list of new inventory and also information on sales when they have them.
  14. Just sold the yellow 2006 Foreman. Guys (three of them) show up and don't know anything at all about Hondas. I explained how to get it into reverse, how it had to be in neutral to start, unless you're holding down the right brake, and where the choke is. Wheeler starts up, but as soon as the choke is taken off it slows way down, dies. We do that a couple of times and I'm thinking to myself "this thing has been perfect and now when a buyer is looking at it it's going to act up?" Guy rips off on it, goes around the corner of my office, and disappears. We wait...and wait...and wait. I'm thinking "Did it die on him?" Then I think "Crap, I left the petcock shut off!" I tell the other two guys that, and they try to call the rider, but about that time he comes back around the building. I asked him if it was acting up, and point to the gas valve, which is off. I turn it back on, guy rides around the parking lot a couple of times and is it does fine after that. We agree on a price, he hands over money. I point out the pull start, air cleaner etc. Guy gets back on it to pull it up on the trailer. Hits the start button. Nothing. Now I'm thinking "You gotta be kidding me!" Then he remembers he flipped the kill switch on the handlebars. Fires right up, and onto the trailer it goes. Every time I try to sell one of these things, I freak out thinking about every little detail and wondering if it's going to be a problem to the buyer. My buddies all laugh at me and say I try to talk myself out of a sale, pointing out every little flaw, but there are so many scumbags out there these days and if I'm selling something I want it to be right. Anyhow, I did ok on that Foreman. I was shocked at how many people showed interest given that it was an ES and yellow, but had quite a few interested. Might have something to do with the stimulus money everybody just got...lol Anyhow, that should be a good one. Engine ran like a sewing machine. It was in great shape when I bought it other than the engine, and I went through it, updated first gear, put a new top end on it, and replaced all the gaskets and seals in it. Was a very clean bike to be 14 years old and have 4K miles on it.
  15. Yikes. We had that here last week. Power was out for 3 days at my work. I have a pinkish Rubicon project I picked up a few weeks ago. Going to try a heatgun and Wipe New on it. Let me know what you try and whether or not it works.
  16. I thought she was moving to Canada?
  17. See if powersportsnation has a used OEM unit. They guarantee their parts.
  18. @basfnb had an old Troy Bilt Pony. The engine croaked on it, and I tried to get it running. Parts weren't cheap so he ended up putting a Harbor Freight Predator engine on it. Works fine like that, but he did lose reverse on it using the Predator.
  19. @basfnb has a red 1990 300FW. Or at least it used to be. He's painted it 4 different times now. Worse than a 14 year old wanting it to be different colors.
  20. Welcome to the board. I'd buy a used one from a reputable seller like powersportsnation.com. They stand behind what they sell. Check with them and see if they have one. Should be simple enough to mic out and see if it's in spec.
  21. Only thing I can think of is maybe the bolt went all the way in, wasn't able to drop down in the case because of the ring gear, but went just far enough to get out of the threads on the inner side of the backing plate. @reebs, this is 100% something you can do. Do you have an impact or a 30mm socket? The ONLY thing this will involve is a little time. It all unbolts, comes apart, and bolts back together again. We can walk you through it. The only part that might be a challenge is getting the axle nuts off. You'll need a 30mm socket and either an impact or a breaker bar (might need a cheater/ pipe over the end to extend the handle/get more leverage).
  22. Yes you can upgrade the first gear set to the 09-11 style, which is very strong. It does require tearing the engine all the way down to do it, which is why I said if the machine hasn't been abused, and you don't intend on abusing it, you could ride it as is and would likely never have problems with it. See the third post in this thread which shows the differences in the old style vs the updated gears.
