  1. Yes. It's over an hour to the closest parts store for me so we tend to get creative. It works really well if done correctly but it looks like you won't need it this time anyway.
  2. You'll get your real answer from shade shortly but if the crank underwent enough stress to cause side to side play it will likely be untrue. One of the reasons anyway for why you need to split the case is the loose metal in the bottom end will cause issues down the line. Shade has likely taken the risk before and had to do all the work you are going to do twice. I think he is trying to save you the headache of putting it back together without going a bit deeper first. Potentially, a month down the line you are right back where you are with now more damage to the case or another component that you could save if you split the cases and do a full rebuild on the engine right now. Crank can be checked with a micrometer before being replaced and you may not even need to but IMO you need to split the cases. It's not as bad as it may seem and you will know the work is done correctly when you are finished. From looking at your posts it's going to be no problem just a bit more time. oh400ex
  3. Make a plug? It is just silicone after all so you can form your own. I don't have any pictures on hand but you can use cornstarch to coat your part and hands and just plop a large glob of 100% silicone down on the area. Let it cure slightly and then push it into the gaps and "mushroom" it on the back side by pushing the part that came through the hole flat. Give it overnight to fully cure then take out your new plug and clean any cornstarch residue off. Once you reinstall it oiled, the seal will be like new again. You can use painter tape coated in corn starch to form really rough mold if you need something to grab onto as well. Or you can embed something in the silicone. Maybe just easier to partzilla/bikebandit and get the OEM replacement but if you already have some 100% on hand it may be an appropriate fix. Good luck with it! oh400ex
  4. Hey a Polaris owner's money spends the same as the Honda guy's 😁 To be clear, I never owned this bike and was paid by the owner to get it to selling condition. Just wanted to share what I was working on. Listed for about 12 hours before it sold lol oh400ex
  5. You'll have to go to DB for your commission 😆 Thank you sir! oh400ex
  6. Jeep you probably already checked this but I spun my self around and used a half a bottle of brake fluid with a similar issue lately. I had two problems. Firstly the caliper was seized with rust and just needed to be taken apart. I did light steel wool on the mating surfaces, oiled and put back together. The second issue that I chased my tail on was a leak in the block that connects the hose from master cylinder to the individual calipers. To be more specific the block was fine but the master cylinder hose fitting was frayed and leaking in a not immediately obvious way. I hope you find the issue soon, or at least have someone to pump the handle for ya! 😄 oh400ex
  7. 2008 Rancher 420 ES EFI with a starting issue. The customer said that it was starting rough after being in water and will not start at all anymore. After tearing into the starter I found that the magnets were unstuck and mostly powdered. So if you ever run into an issue where your starter went out (maybe slowly) and your relay is clicking so that you can hear it... take off the starter and look at the permanent magnets. Due to price concerns he will be opting for an ebay starter but I'll likely end up just using the middle barrel of the new one as the brushes and starter motor its self are in great shape. In my experience the aftermarket starters are always louder and makes your fix feel cheap or incomplete but the customer makes their own choices on that. oh400ex
  8. Eww Polaris I didn't get any before pictures on this one but we pulled it out from under a deck so it had a layer of dust maybe 1/16th of an inch thick 🤣 Listed at $1900 but owner wants 17. Great shape and runs awesome for a 96 You do not want this bike. Friends don't let friends buy not a Honda 😁 oh400ex
  9. This sounds a lot to me like bad fuel and/or junk in the jets. I had one recently where I went through the carb for the customer and it ran great when I left but after sitting for a day it was super hard to start and would not run correctly when it did get started. After taking the carb down again and re-cleaning the jets I found a bit more junk had made its way in. The fix was to install an in-line fuel filter and a bit of sea-foam for a tank and it has been purring since then. Also maybe just make sure your choke is fully seated if the issue returns. oh400ex
  10. Not sure about what's built into the forum but i'm sure you'll get an answer soon. Imgur may be a good option for you no matter the site as it is totally free, no login required and has a video to gif feature built in which would be good for showing something and will post right into the forum via a link. https://imgur.com/H2L0gqZ just made this from a YT video as an example oh400ex
  11. I have multiple of these and I could not agree more with this statement. They are just not great for attachments as they are designed to have certain weight on the front and back and not much wiggle room. Imagine riding a person on your front rack only and that is what a big plow will feel like. It won't be ideal. I say the 4' is best because it's roughly the width of the bike. oh400ex

    New Guy

Welcome! 07 is newer than most of my machines! 😄 oh400ex
  13. Hello everyone, Just wanted to show you what I've been working on the last few days. Still need to put on some parts that have been ordered but she lives and is feeling better! Main harness where it comes from the motor was burned through as the shield was broken and wires were allowed to touch the exhaust. (I didn't take pictures of the carnage) Failure, I know 😅 22 solder joints in total and a lot of heat shrink later and that issue was fixed. The wire was given extra protection from heat and the shield was repaired. Also the fuel system was removed and cleaned as it sat for a few years. Next the belt drive needed to be taken apart, cleaned and put back together. Many surfaces on the bike were rusted so (with a mix of chemical and physical means) I removed as much rust as possible, cleaned and patch painted the areas. The side covers were stripped and repainted along with a restoration treatment on all the plastics. There were a few more issues here and there but overall not a bad "pull it out of the shed" sort of deal. I'm just the worker but the PO is selling the bike which is what triggered the resto. He now rides a Honda. Arctic Cats are just like Polaris in that everything is going to fail and they are giant money pits so I think its a smart move to get rid of. The owner wants $3500 but will likely take lower. It's probably worth it. You do not want this bike. Friends don't let friends buy Arctic Cat. Enjoy some before and after pics but I already know I should have taken more and better pictures 😂 oh400ex
  14. Welcome! Beautiful bike! I used to ride the heck out of one of those. Be careful! oh400ex
  15. Especially easy to mess up to a brass alloy with steel too, which most tip cleaners are. As bad as some Forney products are, that is why I am using this set. It doesn't have those barbs. oh400ex
  16. In my experience, if you are careful the same job can be accomplished with a welding tip cleaner. I use a super cheap cleaner set from Forney. You can do damage if not careful. Honda one looks very similar to this... ... and that one is $6 oh400ex
  17. Go ahead and get them listed now while the summer crowd is still interested. Take that money and get an heirloom quad instead imo. Three Honda bikes your grandkids can ride or three money pits I may be bitter from working on them... Beautiful ride that I'm sure is fun on any machine! oh400ex
  18. Someone probably already mentioned to say they don't like em but... My favorite tires right now are flea-bay specials. WANDA brand from Libra Trailer Parts but I found them on eBay They are the quintessential cheap tire but if you know what you are in for, I find them to last long and be durable enough to run at usually half price. I am on my 2nd set of backs and had no complaints out of the first. oh400ex
  19. Welcome! We're basically neighbors if you are around Arkansas 😄
  20. Will do! I did yea. And it's in the title too 😅 Whoops
  21. Hey all, Looking for a project bike for a family member. I'm trying to get them a present so looking for cheap and I can fix it up. I have several 300 parts bikes but they are all missing some crucial component(s). If anyone has or knows of a super cheap 300 2WD (4WD is too strenuous) that may need some major components but the drive train is solid, I'm buying! I have a spare engine, fenders, racks and many other interchangeable parts that my prospective bike doesn't need to have. Really just need a good frame, front and rear end and ideally electronics but I just don't wanna move an entire harness 😁 Thank you for reading and I appreciate anyone's effort on helping me get them a great bike. oh400ex
  22. Wow that is awesome! You are using the pvc as your drill material? SCH80 I'm assuming with some kind of metal drill tip? Is this a kit you bought? I wish this kind of thing worked in the mountains! 😁 Great job!
  23. Hey everyone, Here is an infograph about rebuilding a clutch basket. Used successfully on my 400ex but will likely work on many different baskets. It was not created by me but I put it into this format for myself a few years ago and wanted to share with others. Please feel free to correct any misinformation with a better informed method! Click a few times on the image below to open in a larger window. Thank you for reading! oh400ex
