  1. they ground it to start it, as the neutral switch is bad, instead of replacing the switch ?, they took the stupid cheap way out, and grounded the wire to bypass the switch. as for no forward gears ?, this can be a few things, bad transmission ?, bad shift drum ?, clutch not right ?, hard to say. you may have to pull the motor, and split it to see if anything is bad inside the cases ?.

Got a message from Rich last night.  He bypassed the PS module, said it still dropped spark after a half hour of running, 25 degrees out.

So OEM ECU, regulator, coil, stator have been installed.  Still dropping spark when hot.

@rich250rracer did you try cleaning up the grounds?  I assume you’ve replaced the spark plug, but just to clarify, new NGK plug?

@retro and other ideas?  Ignition off/on/off  switch on the handlebar maybe?

just guessing here, but would the oil temp sensor cause this on this atv ?.

I held the rockers up with my hand as I lowered the cover onto the engine, so the rods were hanging straight down out of the rocker arm cups, and using my other hand to make sure the push rods lined up with the cam followers.

I'll be using OEM gaskets from now on though LOL

is this where i get to say '' i told you so '' !..lol.

Well I was wrong. It is not the drain that is leaking. My son just bought an 88 trx 300 2x4 last week. He took out the carb last night to clean. While it was out I swapped the drain screw from his to the 450 to see if they were the same. It is still leaking. I guess I need to tear back into that carb now. Not real sure what the problem may be. It'll have to wait til we get the wiring of this 300 redone. Previous owner hacked it up pretty good.
The 300 carb appears to be an aftermarket. It looks fairly new and clean. But the drain is interchangable.

if the float needle is bad ?, it will fill the bowl up, up to the brass tube inside, when this takes place, the fuel will drip/run out of the nipple on the bottom of the float bowl. that nipple serves two purposes, it lets you drain the float bowl, and it tells you when the float needle is not seating ?. its going to be one of these reasons you are getting fuel out the bottom of the float bowl.

Casually shopping for winch mounts for my 2001 rancher. I know everyone says to go with KFI, but it seems like the mount angles the fairlead down. I guess it matches the 04-06 bumper profile, but it looks weird on the 00-03 bumper. Can anyone confirm that? Is there a way to tweak it so that the fairlead sits vertically like it should? I’m thinking about making my own, but I like the way the KFI ties into several frame points. It looks like it would spread the load better. Are there similar designed mounts that fit my generation better?

kfi is the best winch mount. does not matter if winch is angled ?, as long as you have the roller fairlead ?, you will be fine. you can not go wrong with a kfi winch mount !. DO NOT USE A REG FAIRLEAD !!..USE ONLY A ROLLER FAIRLEAD !.

  7. i have not worked on many trx500's, least not newer models. does this have a thermostat?, i could be wrong here, but they used to have thermostat sensors on these that had wires on them ?, going out on a limb here, chances are, if the temp sensor is bad ?, this being a newer model, i'd wager these shut down when they get hot in order to keep from damaging the motor ?. look up the wire schematics , see if the temp sensor is tied to ecu/c.d.i. ?.

Well I've done a couple and don't remember it being an issue.   This comment will attract Shadetree like a moth to a flame, but I wonder if the aftermarket gasket set I bought is flimsier than an OEM gasket (so the OEM gasket would hold the pushrods in place better)?

@Destructo did you use OEM gaskets or aftermarket?

moth to flame eh ?...rofl. uhhh..yeah..the issue is the aftermarket head gaskets...the holes are larger, which in turn, allow the push rods to lean more.

the display but you can see it if you look carefully. I assume the led scrn can’t be fixed? Thanks for taking the time to try and help out to all!

wanting to download the service manual for the 2000esforman450, i didnt want to have to sign in to a goofle's account. i am not fond of them. so, i got it through manuals.lib. i dont have the address i used at the moment, but it was for free. the clymers manual i have is good, but it is missing one step, that is necessary. its great for wiring as it shows the wiring in color, and is easier to follow. the shop manual does not. ever so often, the color does not match, but honda, did that. maybe they ran out of that color wire one day, and used another. stranger thinks have happened. like finding a strange rattle in your ford truck door, and it turns out one of the workers put their empty beer can there.

that happen to my sisters truck. lol

lol, i've heard of '' strange '' noises from folks with cars/truck in the past. never a beer can though ?..lol. one story comes to mind, someone has an odd noise in their truck, many trips to a repair shop, many parts replaced, then one day at the repair shop, the mechanic took the door panel apart, only to find a wrench hanging with a note on it, read: '' i was wondering how long it would take you to find this '' ??..lol.

Finally got round to taking it out and very pleased with it!! Got the rears on the highest setting, the front I didn't gain much as the front brackets are meant for a foreman 400, but all round it sits very nice now slightly higher in the back by a tiny amount but nothing noticeable was never that bothered about the lift side of things, but the ride is so much better than it was before!! Not exactly can am or Polaris irs  obviously, but for an old straight axle honda what a difference, I'm Very very impressed with it, Next step is slightly bigger tyres to fill that arch gap a wee bit 😂

Hello, new here from midwest Alberta. I'm looking for a replacement combination Meter bottom plate. The part the dash electronic board in the head light pod screws onto. My electronics ae fine, but plate is broken and I don't know if JB will hold. Its a 2001 Foreman 450 ES. I see AKATV seems to be good at repairing the electronics, maybe you are on here , sir , and have a few bottom plates from repairs kicking around. If not, if anyone has one let me know.

    Thanks

if anyone has a spare?. it will be @AKATV

My front tires are almost worn smooth, rear not nearly as worn.  Do you find that is so on others.  Maybe due to that toe out which seems so different than with an automobile that has toe in, not toe out

    toe out chart.pdf 370.19 kB · 0 downloads toe out.pdf 318.04 kB · 0 downloads

are you riding on pavement ?, this will ruin atv tires very fast. most atvs have either a toe in..or toe out ?, i run my tires straight on the front.

I see reference to a carburetor heater in the shop manual, and it is pictured in the carb section.
How does this work? There is no reference to using it in the Operator's Manual.
Do you turn on the key and let it heat? For how long?
It's getting colder and having more difficulty starting, more cranking required,
    Anyone have info  on this?

most carb heaters operate from a temp sensor that is located somewhere at the front, under the front fender, its inside a clear plastic bag looking thing. there is no way to set it, its all automatic when you turn the key on. if ya ask me ?, they are worthless in my book. i have never understood what or why honda put these on atvs ?..they are nothing but junk. most newer atvs from honda are fuel injected, they do not need a carb heater. on older atv carbs, the choke worked just fine.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate all possible help!

All plastics are taken off so its easy to reach all parts. I have already tested the continuity in the key switch and it tested ok but I will do it one more time just to double check.

The ignition circuit diagram is quite simple and that's why this is so frustrating.

If I have power to the key switch and the switch is ok, is it something else that could cut power to ignition fuse? It doesn´t look that way in the diagram. Lets say that the engine stop relay is bad, wouldnt I still have power to the ignition fuse?

Both the PCM/ECM & bank angle sensor is new OEM parts

next time you lose power to ignition switch, try probing under the fuse box, wire leading to fuse, i have heard of bad fuse boxes from the factory being defective from the factory. keep in mind, most ignition fuses get their power straight from the battery. also, check your battery to ground connection..make sure its clean and tight ?.

  17. my go-2 saw is my 20v dewalt pole saw, works great..yes its leaks bar oil...what saw doesn't ?..lol. prop it up right..wont leak. i'm a dewalt guy, 20v batteries fit in my other battery dewalt tools as well.

    Hello all, I’m back again!

This question seems so simple but yet has me stumped. So I picked up this bike back in the fall and the headlights were blown due to a faulty voltage regulator. I’m currently trying to replace the bulbs but I can seem to find anything relatively close to the bulb I have in my hand. Maybe I’m missing something and over looking it. All the replacement bulbs I’ve discovered do not look like they would work. HELP! lol

    Thanks in advance!

    a pic is worth a thousand words..lol.
