  1. Thanks Wilson i need to keep this project moving i have fenders laying around, a seat, boxes of parts, racks. I can’t get to my brewing, motorcycle, hunting, fishing, tanning, woodworking stuff! I’m blessed with interests!!!
  2. I put an odo kit on my 86; on a couple of very rough rides i got about 17-20 mpg. Steep hills; very rocky “your mileage may vary” LOLs they’re going to be close yes?
  3. Thanks for getting us back on track J; thread got a lil wayward there lol havent wrenched on my project since Turkey Day. got a “new” starter in—a fleabay unit for $30–looked very good inside so i didn’t rebuild it. touching up corrosion with Total Solutions rust converter. Stuff works great—some of these pics show where i need to scrape and recoat. Frame had lots of deep surface corrosion from being stored in damp shed. I would love to repaint the entire frame but i can ride it or repaint it. Fitted my painted header last night—not installing it until i get all the unpainted frame spots touched up.

    Forum Hunters?

Been hunting mountain lion and coyote. Yotes came running into a FoxPro call; the three galloped in from over 300 yards. Probably a mom with older pups. put up the pelt with an alum pickle and curatan. Next time I’ll skin better, deflesh right away, pickle and send off for a chrome tan. if i wasn’t looking for lion I would’ve gone with the .223.
  5. If you look a that tappet cover mating side you’ll see a rubber gasket—at least my 86s have gaskets—to my knowledge you should not need a sealant.
  6. Where is the starter? jet and/or passage plug? You have them right? Wanna make sure you don’t forget them
  7. Yeah I don’t think that’s a seal I think it’s a machining furrow and helps to seat the valve ive never removed an oring from there and haven’t seen on in the IPB
  8. LOLs my project 86 came with a Uni with integral spring support—it was Ok but yknow ima hardcore OEM type—traded it for a stock cage and filter!!
  9. That is the Cobra muffler it is a glass pack—you have to wrap that perforated baffle with some muffler pack i have 2 86s. One has the bigger muffler the other has the glass pack.
  10. Bummer i broke the kill switch on my 300 trying to pop it off. Oh well that hole in the bottom of the switch must be a clip of some kind. Well it runs anyway so gremmy don’t try that screwdriver technique on the switches with the hole in the bottom
  11. Walmart sells a cleaning vinegar. Vinegar is a dilute acetic acid solution. Most vinegars sold are diluted to 5%; cleaning vinegar is 6%. the rest is water! careful when soaking dissimilar parts. I was soaking a sub-carrier in a vinegar bath and left a copper brush in a plastic bus tub. Next morning my subcarrier looked like it had copper plating on it. when you are done, you must go high pH to stop flash rust. the high pH solution will dry to leave solids — these thankfully are not fuel soluble but which should be removed with a tack cloth before painting or in the case of a fuel tank, rinse it out with some clean fuel.
  12. The early kill buttons will pop off by light prying with a wide flat screwdriver; if it doesn’t come off easily don’t force it. my 1986 TRX350A button was replaced with one from a ‘98 TRX300–i think—maybe an earlier one. Anyway, by the late ‘90s the switch covers do not pop off. you may have to remove the switch from the housing as i did mine shown in the pics. Not sure how they come off. my kill switch was damaged in the POs rollover, so removed it and took it apart—that lil ball was dislocated and the spring came out and locked up the switch. It’s like the detent ball on a mossberg shotgun safety switch I cleaned out all the dirt, lubed it with dielectric grease and reassembled it.
  13. yes @F250guy you likely need a new SE valve—as shown in my pic if your seal is rounded like mine, buy a new one. Should be conically shaped pointing into the SE bore and pliable. Orings not sold separately kinda funny Fish the latest poster back there uses one of my carb pictures
  14. Here’s a pic of the idle screw side. when I install a trx300 carb which BTW is super easy: as too deep said turn pilot screw 2 to 2.5 turns out. I install Idle screw where it’s just touching barely the throttle. Hold your carb up to a light while the butterfly valve is closed—you want minimum light (valve opening) small as possible screw in the carb side cable adjustment—and then engage the cable to the throttle link so you’re not twisting the cable. Set you handlebar cable adjustment and the carb side adjustment each to a halfway position if you can and take up all the slack in the cable. You want the linkage to instantly respond to your thumb throttle input
  15. I use 2 gals of cleaning vinegar from Walmart and a pound of BBs. BBs roll around and have uniformity and density to help scrub the rust out. Afterward you want to use a rinse of water and hot tub pH Up to eliminate the flash rust that will form if you use plain water. Then dry with hair dryer. i have my Dad’s old cement mixer under my deck; i wrap my tanks up so vinegar doesn’t get on the paint; wrap in bubble wrap and cardboard. Run my mixer for three hours.
  16. Here’s a pic of a Fourtrax not Foreman fuse box sub harness and main harness. you may want to shop are fleabay for those used components. I know the Foreman main harness and the fuse box setup and connections to the solenoid are different, so be sure to get your year correct—many sellers don’t know the diff. See how mice chewed my wires were? i bought a used fuse harness for $30, used main harness for $65, and the starter cable came with a $30 used starter. The chewed up harnesses you have could be worth something even for scrap wire leads.
  17. Here’s a pic this is a pic of an unrebuilt carb—see how clean the exterior is before disassembly? Before disassembly i spray the body and all screws with deep creep—removing dirt with a plumbers flux brush. Then i wash it down with dawn dishsoap. This gets large particles off the exterior i disassemble with the best cross point i have—a large handled nut driver with a #2 bit. And make sure to hit the jets with deep creep too. Use the best fitting straight bit screw stick you have and gradually apply torque—I’ve had jets break on me. Use a 7 or 8? mm socket on the main jet. see my pic? I use dental brushes, flux brushes, brass brushes and bamboo-handled cotton swabs. I use the broken handles of used swabs to scrape out bits of gasket. be careful with the bowl and carb body—there’s a priming channel built into it—leading to a tiny brass jet in the carb throat If you soak it you might clog it. If i soak my carbs, it is because they are clean and only in clean fluid. Lotta owners don’t care about the priming feature but i do
  18. Good questions you can go to Rocky Mountain atv or Partzilla and look up your machine. They have your machine listed by frame VIN and illustrated parts breakdowns showing part numbers. You need this info to get the best OEM parts. not all sellers know or acknowledge the differences in parts applicability. Like members ^^^ said every year there were advances in reliability and performance resulting in different parts
  19. you don’t need to epoxy seal the tank do you? I just did a vinegar descale with a pound of BBs, followed by a high pH rinse. you might prefer to have an ATV jack — makes maintenance easy. I bought this Harley Davidson motorcycle lift for $75. Raises it 19 inches
  20. I got an Emeril Lagasse AirFryer 360 from Santa. I cooked some shee-con wang in it—30 minutes and came out perfectly crisp and juicy. Mo betta than you’ll ever get at Buffalo Wild Wing
  21. Oops i think i misidentified that part. I think it’s supposed to go to the A arm guard kit. also a good buy here.
  22. For you TRX300 fans. Here’s a special bit on the flea most don’t rekkinize—my mistake it’s very similar to Stay B but it’s not. Stay B is the clamp used to mount the optional Hondaline work light to a TRX300 rack. This clamp has nut plates on it where the Stay B doesn’t. you might ask “why i need that if I don’t have Stay A?” Well you can fabricate an L bracket and mount something else to the rack with it. Or knock off the nut plates and use it like Stay B Let’s see how much longer it lasts on the flea LOLs

    GREAT NEWS....

Congratulations Sam! And Sounds like you’ll have at least three father-son projects. And maybe some grandfather grandson projects.
  24. Great question depends on how much you’re going to make. If using 1-2 quarts of stock, the a half can of paste, tablespoon of the Better Than Bouillon and teaspoons of the dry spices and 1 bay leaf are good start. dont want to make it too tomatoey cause it overwhelms the broth flavor
