I live on the shore of a 1100 sq/km salt water lake (621sq/mile) which is surrounded almost entirely by hills and low mountains. In the mountains there are many lakes/streams all feeding the main lake. Terrain is boggy and very rocky. Many, many trees.

Ghosta- if you are interested in the complete story, read the whole chain to see how I got into this predicament and made a bad situation worse for myself. General opinion was I needed to get it out for fear it was close to or touching the ring gear. Regardless- the bolt is out and this is no longer an issue. I was just trying to bring a close to the topic in the forum and thank everyone for the support.

Well I did get some flack for this but my 86 350A has Kenda Executioner's on it now. I took her out mudding last weekend and it was a beast! They have a similar lug design to the stock foreman tractor treads and I love them. I went with 25-10-12 size on all 4 corners. They are heavy but the bike has plenty of power for it and they ride well on and off trail in my opinion. The extra weight and width has also made the bike super stable to ride. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

IMO .. if NASCAR keeps being this boring live pd will take it's place, you might EVEN say it already has...

Very true. I went from stock short 24's to a true 25" on my 350. Didn't hardly notice a thing. if anything it made 1st gear a little more usable. 😄

Gotcha! Thanks! I definitely don't want to change the gears.

You will be the first to know shade! I'm curious as well. I'm not one to hide it when I'm wrong! I'll even send pics! Lol

Thanks for the update and the thread Reebs. At some point someone will have the same problem and hopefully a net search will bring them here.

Thanks for the thread Reebs. Your posts have made me that much more careful. Personally, I have no desire to separately measure the fluid when there's a perfectly good check hole there.

Yes I am 25-10-12's on all 4 corners of the 1986 TRX 350A. Love them!

fact is, honda kinda dropped the ball designing the later models ..the fill plug as at the top, and some run a mixture of grease and gear oil lol! notice the most die hard honda utility owners here, prefer the old school machines ... and the general rule on twisted steel (right handed thread) cap bolt, is a left handed drill bit, unless there's enough to weld a nut on, as the extractors / drill kits are all left hand unless right hands are needed.

Can’t get any better than that... has to be correct

I guess maybe if you put brand new chain and cam gear and crank gear maybe it would be. But every single engine i have ever built. Including car engines there markings are a close but not exact deal. You put it the way its closest and call it a day. Done many many timing chains and timing belts on various engines for many years. Not one has ever been perfectly aligned.

***Update*** If the rain ever stops here i can hopefully go test this gearing out. I did get the 15 tooth front sprocket on. The crf skid plate on. And the glann case saver. This is where i learned i shouldnt use my memory for things. So i had thought i was running a 14/36. I was actually running a 14/37. So i now have 2 brandnew 37 tooth sprockets for a 400ex if anyone wants one? LoL. Because with the 15 tooth front i cant use a 37 at all. So i installed my old 38 tooth i had since i spent all the time installing the rivet type master link in my chain already. The positive side. I can run a 15/36 if this 15/38 isnt enough gear. The negative side. Dont have a 36 tooth at all yet........its ordered now incase i need it.

Most of our riding is on Forest Service gravel roads and old “logging trails”. Cost $25 a year per machine for a permit. We keep ours licensed for the street as well. So we can ride anywhere but the Interstate System.
