8 pointsSurvived Ida : The winds were pretty intense , at one point I was thinking to my self , this was the worst winds I ever been in and thought why didn't we leave !!! The water got to the 10 ft mark by us , we had 2.5 foot to spare , highest level I ever seen since living here and my neighbor been here 40 + and says it was the highest ever for them -------------- been running a generator since Saturday at 4:45 AM ( that power tower that twisted up and fell into the Mississippi River fell before the storm even got bad , no more than 30 mph winds , go figure that one ) , burning 10 gallons per day , had 50 gallons to start and gave 10 gallons to my neighbor with a generator with no gas , LOL , so tomorrow going to ride to Mississippi and try to get some more ---------- I am glad we stood and rode it out -------- Lots of stories to tell and living new stories every day ---- thanks to all , when my phone rebooted tonight I had a long list o text and emails , it is rough with out a phone in a crisis
-
7 pointsJust got a text from Fish. He said he hasn’t had cell service since 6 AM yesterday. My text was the first he’s gotten in that time so I imagine service is spotty/delayed/iffy at best. No phones, TV, electricity, internet, so they’ll be roughing it for sure, but at least they’re unharmed Said lots of destruction there so yall keep them in your prayers

5 pointsI got a new hobby / passion , well it really is an old hobby rekindled ------ cleaning up after hurricanes , actually kind of experienced on that , not my first rodeo , in fact getting to be a hand at it , LOL

4 pointsFinally finished bucking up the last 5 chord of the 20 I had in the spring. I have 15 split and ready for winter, and a chord of cedar for kindling. Made a deal I couldn't refuse and have another 15 chord being delivered in a few weeks, should be good for the next 3 winters. Going to try and have them dry for 2 years before it burn it so I get a cleaner burn and less ashes to clean up.

3 pointsMaybe sitting on their rears after the looting marathon. The pictures from 16 years ago were just downright heartbreaking to see looters in waste deep water carrying a big screen TV over their heads. What Fishfiles did by giving the neighbor 10 gallons of gas is what I believe should happen. Gold star for Fishfiles.

3 pointsThanks for the updates fish glad your family was not injured. I know your one arm is not 100% from your heart test so as one old fart to another kinda old fart take it easy buddy....
-
3 pointsI went and took a few pictures for you guys. The bush is thick in my back 40. If you look closely in the 2nd pic you can see the harvester in the shade,on the right, he's on lunch break when I took the pic, I know because he owns the machine....lol Pictures don't show the real amount of wood yet, but I think the guy owns 200 acres behind me, he cut 50 acres 5 years ago.

2 pointsYour right , no need to push it , it will get done when it gets done ---- Today was fuel day , and it is hard to get , left home early and was the 6th car in line at the RaceTrax filling station in Slidell , big station over 20 pumps , got to the pump and next to fuel and they called out of fuel , the couple of other stations open in Slidell had lines of 40 by then , Sam's Wholesale gas station was 100 + , went home ate breakfast and got the wife , went to Mississippi , started in Bay St Louis ( 35 miles ) and the line was 15 per pump and most stations empty , got to the bay by HollyWood Casino and the line was 4 , got the precious juice , so now I got 11 - 5 gallon cans , on the way back from Mississippi when we got off Interstate 12 at Sam's Slidell , gas line was 200+

2 pointsThey are thinning pine right across the road from me. This is a forwarder that loads finished logs out to the truck. Harvester ran this morning. Cuts off the tree, slicks off the limbs, cuts to length and stacks for the forwarder.

2 pointsWomen tend to be passive aggressive. My wife is not. She is "aggressive aggressive", and would not hesitate to throw me into the fire if I tried to be a smartass while she is miffed at me. Strong women are much more exciting than weak women....lol
-
2 pointsThey are cutting behind the farm here, I get all the clean up wood I want also....lol I do live in the bush....

2 pointshey...good to hear from you Fish... I was honestly expecting it might be a couple more days of dark. and yeah, Wilson, good point to retain (sticky) the weather thread.. I know it starts to make us look more like a zombie survival board, but there's so many great lessons to be learned and Honda ATV boys tend to be pretty self reliant...so plenty of experience to share.
-
2 pointsGlad to hear you are ok Fish. Clean up isn't a real fun hobby but I know where you're coming from.

2 pointsSun is out here again this morning. We had 24 hours of on and off drizzle and that was it. Probably didn’t get a half inch of rain during that time. As usual, I am completely amazed at the difference in the people living in the country in Louisiana and the people living in New Orleans. The countryfolk are taking care of each other and doing cleanup themselves, while those in the city are sitting on their butts screeching for someone to come help them.

2 pointsYes, on the change clutch the pack should be tight. It uses that triangle ball thing to take the pressure off the clutch (disengage them) when you shift. If they are loose it's like your pulling in a clutch lever disengaging them all the time. Another note while your in there. The kick starter works off of the one way clutch (bearing) on the centrifugal clutch. I didn't read through all the other thread so if you had that apart and that bearing removed you might have put it in backwards. That would give the centrifugal direct drive (eliminating it) and you would have to use the shifter as a clutch lever once the other clutch is working. I'm going off of the kick starter isn't working but did before the repairs. Just a few things to check so hopefully your only in there one more time.

2 pointsjust change the subject... just a tad.... and for what i believe is a valid reason... i would like to recommend this string be made a sticky... i have gained very valuable information ... from members in defrent areas, along with helpfull links / sites...and those members basically are the same as MTEARS ... right there with eyes on the weather, in there area..... we would not know exactly how things are if it wasn't for this fact, it also.... helps us keep in touch with members who might be in path of on coming weather situations what ever they might be.... from huricains to drought conditions severe weather, flooding, dangerous winter conditions, and forest fires..... etc etc. and a big thank you to melatv for starting this thread.
-
2 pointsappreciate you guys providing the streams and updates. Doesn't look like any actual weather for us Carolina folks...but it certainly will impact our gas supply as we are on the butt-end of the colonial.. I went out late Friday night after the traffic had calmed and filled up the diesel truck, and the work van along with my various 5 gal gas cans. Worst case, I can opt to work from home later in the week when the gas pumps get bagged. it was end of month, so I also made sure to pull the generators out and let them spin for a bit. if I was physically healthy and strong enough, i'd add my boat to "than navy" and head that way..but at this point I'd more likely wind up adding to the headcount of someone needing rescue myself. sending our best and prayers for our honda buds in the path.
-
1 pointno Wilson, not at all. that looks terrible. only spot of some oil residue was at the failed cam chain tensioner. otherwise clean as far as oil. I think i'm going to use a very thin line of hondabond on the crankcase/ cylinder gasket. Thanks.
-
1 pointGlad you got stocked back up. I took Dad's truck and filled up all my cans at dawn yesterday, just in case we saw a post-Katrina gas problems again all over the SE US. I keep about 60-70 gallons of gas on hand most of the time, and Dad probably has another 40-50. We gradually use it in the mowers/ATV's/saws etc, and keep the stock rotated, but I was about 1/2 through my 70 gals so I went ahead and topped off.

1 pointlol! oh i know .... recall some of the stories.... i just had to post that option to see what you would say (painted a picture very well) but you know just as well as i do it's so much fun to get them fired up, just make sure if you try this plan there is NO food coloring in the house ...... sigh... i do t know how good your memory is... seems really good so i will just say .... sleep with one eye open , or you might end up being dyed pink, and shaved bald.... like i was.... if she's a red head... you might just very well avoid this idea altogether.... i was born in April ... so i live for pratical jokes.... one that was always caused trouble....with my pop, and friends) besides that johndeere block heater, that would buzz you if you touched the tractor with out unplugging it) well actually ... they didnt believe the warning sign i stuck on the tractor (warning shock hazard) I'll have to look, that thread up, but anyways.... i was the worlds worst about collecting bic lighters..,always tryed to bum a lite... and I'd carefully have a convo going, and stick the lighter in my pocket... and one day he caught on...said i know what your doing now, give me back all those lighters!!! and told everyome else.... haha! i reckon i had collected about 25 plus from defrent people.... from then on.... no one would give me a light, oh the stories i could tell...I'd most likely be under the Maury county jail.... lol!

1 pointjust what i thought is happening that cold front has stalled out the storm front, i see now the storm is slightly expanding just over bowling green Kentucky ... jeep y'all might get some of this after all.
-
1 pointI would start at the ball joints. Like said above, disconnect the outer tie rod ends and figure it out.
-
1 pointglad to have you back... fish.... the pics show some major devastation ..... i thought maybe this one might be as bad as Katrina... at least from your description the flooding looks to be I'm like jeep just amaised at the resilience of the people... and pitching in to help there niegbors in need.... just a long clean up process now, but y'all have always over come the devastation.... as you said in another post.. y'all were on the east side of the storm, and from my understanding .. that's worst (or one of) sides to be on... unless being directly in the path of the eye... from my math... y'all were about 90 miles due north east of the eye ? I'm glad the storm surge wasn't as bad as the news made out, to change this up some, i was woken this morning from a smell, i can never forget... the same scent when a tornadoe touches down... it's hard to explain this smell, but it always gains my attention..best way i can explain it is a smell of destruction, it sure brought back some bad memories for me, and have been thinking about all those times this morning. thank you bighanded ... it was just an idea, but this thread is so popular it might not need to be a sticky, it's not up to me, just an idea i had, because MTEARS has provided me with much better (top notch) reports where as the news / media has not even come close, and this thread does the same just about top notch information from around the country where our members are located.
-
1 pointBeing I don't know what you really done ---- I think I would jack it off the ground in the front , disconnect the tie rod ends and isolate if the problem is in the steering shaft upper bushing / lower bearing , versus , the ball joints , tie rod ends or cv-shafts ---which makes me think , the two cv axles are not the same length , did you put the right one back on the right side

1 pointNo I never took it off. It was very smooth and no noise from any part of it so I left it alone. It was turning very well up until I reassemble the front end.

1 pointI don't have a personal repeater. I just connected to one of the repeaters using EchoLink, and internet based rig. And correct, MEARS is only activated as needed.
-
1 pointI think I'll just use an internet based setup like Echolink. If any of the repeaters are hooked into it then tx/rx can be done that way. I'm going to play with it and see.

1 pointI'm in east/central Ohio and Thursday is supposed to be clear, sunny and 76 so the cold front will meet this current mess some where south and east of me. Until then more rain and spotty Tstorms for me. August used to be our dry month and we could go three, sometimes four weeks without mowing but since my Dad died in late 2014 it's been more like May or June rainfall all summer long which means a 150 mile round trip to go cut Mom's acre and a quarter every week. I get to visit with Ma so that's a plus.
-
1 pointYep same here, I split cases and use starter fluid too ( man that stuff has gone up in price...) Good maintenance and peace of mind, you would be surprised at the amount of gunk I have found and "sucked in" oil screens I have seen in engines that "looked good" I have a little cheapo oil squirter that I use to oil all bearings after, and I usually turn starter over until I see oil come out the oil bleed out screw on valve cover cover, then turn it it half a minute longer to ensure good oiling and flow before trying to start engine

1 pointyep....we come for information on hondas, we return cause we love to talk about our toys, we stay cause we enjoy the feeling of friends n family...thanks All
-
1 pointYea agree, I hear over 1 million without power down there. I know fish has a generator but fuel is gonna be hard to get so prolly it won't be run anymore than necessary.....I'm sure when he can @Fishfiles will let us know the situation down there.
-
1 pointHow are things this morning? If the roads allow travel in your area I can bring you some supplies. Do you need help? I have barrels of gas, chain saws, generator, supplies are plentiful here. Also the owner of Gallery Furniture here in Houston is loading trucks right now to deliver to your area. Supposedly you just ask them and they will help. Call Gallery Furniture I guess and take it from there. Fish, I'm just six hours away? Me and my 16 foot flat bed can be headed your way....just ask.

1 pointi understand, but .... i think you might over thinking this .... I don't think anyone asked you if, IF, you had a history of this bike, whether it had been sunk, but by the description... my thinking is it wasn't .... but fact is, if it has do what shade said all the way down... because you will not get all that grime out, that's why people use use thinner liquid to flush them.. but if your plans are to keep this bike for along time... do it right.... when you did the oil drain first time (soon as you got the bike) what did the oil look like ? i may have to look at your original post again, i don't recall right off hand.
-
1 pointWell, it’s been sitting for a little while and I can’t guarantee nothing has made its way in there. I just want to be sure it’s clean before I start putting it back together.

1 pointOther than a short bad storm 2 weeks ago we are badly in need of rain. Broke treetops off and threw them 30' on top of my garage putting 3 holes in it. New roof time. We are over a 5" rain deficit. Lost 9 big trees.
