Two of my closest friends died from that. One got bad on them, his family locked him in the house to try to make him dry out, and he shot himself while he was locked in there. The other went to rehab, got off the pills, and then when he got home he'd lost his farm, and his wife left him while he was in rehab. He drank himself to death in under a year. My sister is (or perhaps was would be more accurate) a recovered addict....had a friend in New Orleans she went to visit, met a bunch of people down there she thought were fun, ended up hanging out down there a LOT, fell in with a drug dealer "boyfriend" and did lots of speed/ Cocaine with him (she was no angel before, but got bad during the time she was spending in NO). She went to rehab when my parents threatened to disown her and I told her she couldn't be around my kids anymore, and for awhile more or less straightened up, but lately she's been drinking more (binge drinking alcoholic), and Sunday after I church I stopped by her house and she was messed up... at noon on a Sunday. I confronted her and she lied twice saying she wasn't screwed up, before finally saying she hurt her back and took a muscle relaxer and something else (don't remember what). I went off on her. She'll be 50 in August, laziest person I know, irresponsible as !, and now she's messing with this crap. She asked what my problem was and I told her I was sick of having a druggie deadbeat for a sister and she needed to grow the ! up. More than likely we'll bury her before we bury my parents. The thing that makes me so mad is she has this "I'm the victim" mentality and has ALWAYS refused to take responsibility for any of her screw-ups. She even does the "I'm the screw up in the family, haha":around my kids. She went to the best schools my parents could afford, graduated from a small private college in SC with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in German, and this is what she's done with it. I just got mad again typing this.
  2. If you check powersportsnation.com, they usually have used rectifiers cheap, and they stand behind what they sell. Glad you got it fixed!
  3. They did, but it's not just them. It's everywhere.
  4. Kinda what I was thinking. Paint's in good shape, inside looks clean. I don't get it, but it's looks good enough inside and out that I hate to scrap it.
  5. Anyone else noticed a spike in prices, new and used lately? You'd think we were seeing some massive inflation or something. Guess when you create a couple of trillion of out thin and and dump it on the population, it makes prices go up. Whoda thunk it?
  6. So, bought a parts 300 a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I more or less popped the big dent out of one side of it. Paint's in good shape. Inside is clean. Then I look and the threaded shank that the petcock screws onto it gone! Anyone every have this happen? I'm wondering if I could braise a nipple on there, or if it's scrap.
  7. I actually was digging around in the pile of old junk wheels last week looking for stock 300 wheels to put on that Polaris RZR170 somebody gave me. I had several old 350 Foreman wheels, but needed 300 wheels with the bigger center hole to fit over the axle nuts. I only managed to find two with the bigger center hole. They get scrapped all the time around here. 420 rear wheel would work too. I'd look on Facebook marketplace and see if you can find one locally. Shipping will cost more than anything if you can't source one locally..
  8. This is probably your worst case scenario. Hopefully with the limited run time the crank slinging oil around the bottom end kept you from any damage there.
  9. Sounds like a good idea. The damage is done, so I can't imagine anything making it look worse. LOL
  10. Put new tires on this mower (stock size tires) and now when I turn the wheels, the mower tries to keep going in a straight line. Maybe I need to check and see if the deck is dragging like Wilson is saying. I guess if I have the deck picked up and it turns normally that's my answer.
  11. I have gained my covid 19....lol Maybe I need to take some video.
  12. That is pretty much how it behaves, but nope. Just has a couple of spindles with push on wheels held in place by a circlip. It's a hydrostatic drive rear, and I have two of them. The other one steers great. Maybe I should swap the front tires on them and see if it changes anything......
  13. Weird thing. Put new tires on the front of my old John Deere from the 80's. Now when I try to turn, the wheels turn, but the front tires don't seem to bite and the mower just keeps pushing straight ahead even though the front wheels are cut to one side or the other. Tried airing the tires down to give them more bite, but then they go flat. So did I just get tires that are too slick or what? Anyone have any suggestions on a remedy?
  14. Yep, same motors. @basfnb had a 6HP Johnson that I got running a few years ago. Same motor as my 6HP Evinrude, both late 60's vintage.
  15. Well that sucks. I'd tear it down and check it out. I'd say your right, will probably need a bore, new piston and rings at a minimum. The bottom end would get lubrication from the crank slinging oil around, and with the cam in the bottom end I would think it would be ok. If it wasn't run more than that I would think the head and rockers would probably be ok too, but will likely definitely need a bore and new piston. Did you take pics when you took the oil filter cover off? Hopefully the shop owner is honest and will own up to what they did. Edited to add, reread your post. So the shop owner is having you take care of it. Glad to see he's honest. I'd check the head and rockers over closely, but I would think they would be ok if it wasn't ridden long.
  16. Ha, mine's a piece of steel bent at 90 degrees and bolted into place on my 6HP. The factory shift levers on these things are almost always broken off.
  17. You know what sucks? When you're just going to run out to check something on the farm, so you're still in your flip-flops, and you get stuck, or the bike dies on you, and you have to get off in the muck. Wife got me a good pair of muck boots 2-3 years ago. I've about worn them out.
  18. Well crap. I have a late 60's 6 HP my great uncle gave me, and have a 9.9 with a 15HP carb from the early 70's, and another late 70's 15HP for parts Wonder if parts are going to become impossible to find over time? Hopefully not before I'm in the ground.
  19. OK you woodworking fellers. Wife insisted that we needed a humidifier in our room, even though we used radiators instead of forced air, and the humidifier has cause a black mold outbreak on the big window sills looking out onto the patio.... I pointed out that if it leaked, it would ruin the hardwood floors, so her solution was "I'll put a towel under it". "Then the towel will get wet, won't do much good" Of course, she put it on a towel...on hardwood floors...and of course it leaked, and wasn't discovered that it was leaking for some time. So when she broke the news to me, by then we had a nice dark stain on the floor. Interwebs said to use bleach on it, which I did, along with some 0000 steel wool. That did a good job of getting the water stains out, but now I need to try to blend in the finish on the floor. Any suggestions? Far as I know these are just waxed old hardwood floors. Should I try just floorwax, or something else (stain)?
  20. I have an old "Atlantic" pool table in storage. My grandfather bought it back in the 50's, and converted it from tubes to leather pockets. It came out of the Blytheville Arkansas Air Force Base Officer's Club. They had it in their den when my mom was a kid, and then it went into storage until I was about 14-15. I went with a buddy to get it and set it up, and we couldn't budge ONE of the three pieces of slate. 4 of us (two buddies, my grandad, and me) managed to get one piece moved, and then my grandad hired a couple of huge guys to move the other two pieces. You get an old slate table like that they weigh a TON. Nice heavy table. When I was off at school they put it back in storage at the feed store, and termites got into it and ruined a couple of the rails. I got it and cleaned it up, and it's under the house in the crawlspace. At some point I'd like to get it out and refinish it and set it up again.
  21. Getting a care package from @retro is always fun. Talk about taking care of every little detail.

    partzilla

I ordered some stuff from Rocky Mountain a couple of weeks ago. All of it showed in stock. Got 3 of the bits within a few days. The rest was about two weeks. Most of these places don't stock parts. They order them from Honda when you place your order, so they wait on the part to come in, and then they ship it to you.
